Hi, I love Stephen King, Joe Hill, Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, and a bunch of others. Would love some recommendations.I just read my first James Herbert (The Rats) and can't wait to read all his others. I also loved Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt.
Any recommendations would be great.
Thanks

I'm relatively inexperienced when it comes to reading horror and I'm looking for recommendations. I love Stephen King. Anne Rice is meh. I hate Dean Koontz. My usual genres are science fiction, mystery, and westerns. Suggestions?
Welcome to HA, Gregory! There are several threads you can consult for recommendations. There is an entire section dedicated to recs, also check the sections on novels and favorite authors.
King, Koontz and Rice are just the basics. There are so many great authors to discover here. This month we have Rio Youers joining us in reading his book
.Also James Newman and Adam Howe are here reading their book
.Next month Paul Tremblay will be here, joining us in reading his latest:

Hi there, I'm new to the horror genre and joined this group for book recommendations. I love horror films and anything scary but for some reason i have never picked up a horror book. I've heard good thing about Birdbox ( months before the movie came out) and a book that i believe is called House of Leaves. So these are basically my start.
Welcome Joshua. Bird box (both book & movie) are good. I think there's a buddy read going on right now for it if you'd like me point you in the right direction. Buddy reads are just a group of people reading & discussing the book. I still haven't read house of leaves. My best of 2018 reads were kill creek, cabin at the end of the world, the broken girls, and my best friend's exorcism.

Welcome, Joshua! House of Leaves is one that's been recommended to me, too, but haven't got around to reading it yet!
My favorite novel of dark fiction is PERFUME, by Patrick Suskind. He is German, but the English translation I read is flawless and easy to read. I highly recommend the novel.
