Hello, my name is Kate and I love the horror genre. I really love horror movies but surprisingly I haven't read too many horror books and I am looking to change that. Glad to be here
Welcome to all the new members! I hope you have a blast, and perfect time to join with spooky season coming up :-)
Hi all, Vance Knox here. I've been a horror fan, especially supernatural, since I watched The Omen (original) on TV when I was 8 years old. I LOVED it. I started reading King when I was 10, and branched out from there. Hardcore Richard Laymon fan here. I live in Japan and am out of the loop when it comes to new horror releases, so I'm hoping to get some good reccs here.
Also, I'm a Kiwi Gen-X author, first paid publication was in 2001. I have burned through a few pen names in that time -- it's not a good idea to do that. Pick a name and stick with it. (Sage Advice.)
Take care all, and I look forward to reading your reccs
Hellooooo! I've been reading horror since picking up my first Stephen King novel in 5th grade. Currently reading a couple different fantasy novels as well as 'Different Seasons' by Stephen King! Excited to join the group!
Hi everyone, I'm new to Goodreads. I'm a writer of several books, including children's short story collections and a recent horror novel.I found this group interesting, as I am a horror fan myself.
Seeking some good reads and recommendations!!
Thank you! Have a good day, everyone!!
Hi I'm Maddie! I've been obsessed with horror movies since I was like 4 years old. My parents liked horror movies when I was young so I watched them with them all the time. Then when I became an avid reader I started reading horror novels. I'm to the point now where that stiff isn't scary. I went to a haunted house last night and kept laughing when the people tried to jump scare me. I still enjoy the premise of horror and thriller things though so I thought this group would be cool.
Hello!! My name is Casey! I'm a lover of all things spooky and new to Goodreads. Just learning the ropes! Yall are my first group <3 As of right now my favorite horror books are The Eyes Are the Best Part by Monika Kim and Brother by Ania Ahlborn. Excited to get some great recs and read along with yall!
Hi!I hope everyone is well.
I've been a lover of the genre since my youth.
I love Shirley Jackson and Gemma Files and cherish Ray Bradbury's "The Halloween Tree." I've recently discovered Johnathan Maberry and Caitlin R. Kiernan.
Movie-wise, I have watched 3,374 films to date. I used to discuss many of them on my former podcast, "The Last Knock" with my co-host Jonny. We ended up with 366 episodes, had dozens of horror guests, including Stuart Gordon and David Howard Thornton, and "Entertainment Weekly" once said our show was "essential" for horror fans. (That was cool to hear!)
As an English teacher at the university level, I had a few papers on horror cinema published in professional journals and had the opportunity to present them at conferences.
I've also won many awards for my horror screenplays.
I prefer horror novels and films that put twists on traditional tropes or avoid them entirely.
I'm looking forward to meeting fellow fans and learning about new movies to watch and books to read!
Yours,
Bill
Hi, Sophie!I hope all is well.
I recommend Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House," if you haven't read it already.
Take care and have a great weekend!
Bill
Hi all! I’ve been a fan of horror as far back as my memory takes me, right back to telling ghost stories with the other outcast girl in kindergarten. Happy to be here and can’t wait for some great recommendations!
Hello!I enjoy reading horror/thrillers. I joined this group to hopefully get some more book recommendations and maybe even some friends who also enjoy spooky stuff!
This will be more of a reintroduction, because I was active here quite a while ago, but I pretty much had to give up groups here on Goodreads because of other time commitments. It's a little long-winded - sorry... :-)I'm a lifelong reader of horror, gravitating more towards quiet supernatural stories as I've gotten older - ghost stories, haunted houses, etc. But I also love a good werewolf story. :-)
I worked in software for 35 years, and for about 25 I have worked as a proofreader, copy and line editor. I primarily work for a few small presses (mostly horror), but have also done some freelance for individual authors. My last software job ended early this year, and I decided to give editing a try full-time.
Since I'm back to working a single job and not 1.5, and the nest is empty, I'd really like to get back involved in horror discussions again. I've met a lot of great people here, and gotten a ton of excellent recommendations! If I'm being honest with myself, I probably still won't post a ton, but I do hope to contribute to group reads again. Before taking this full-time, I only had time to read what I was getting paid to read (except audiobooks - those I do while driving and exercising), now I'm actually reading for fun again, and loving it.
