Horror Aficionados discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hello everyone my name is Sayra and I'm a horror/thriller fanatic. I enjoy reading it as much as watching it. I specifically enjoy possession, haunted houses, and zombie topics. Hoping to get new book recommendations from ya'll and see what you're current read is!!
Hi Everyone! I'm Brianna -- So glad a group like this exists. I am a book fanatic in general, but horror has always been my favorite genre (for TV and movies, also). My favorite horror movie is "The Thing" (John Carpenter's) because the makeup stands the test of time. "The Shining" (King) is my favorite horror novel, but I have read many and look forward to getting recommendations from other like-minded readers!
LTJ wrote: "Welcome Angie & Mila! This is an amazing group and please don't forget to grab a virtual iced hazelnut coffee and blueberry scones..."Wait there were scones?! Man, missed them when they were hot! Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! As I continue my ever-expanding reading journey I will definitely turn to you all for recommendations. Also, I feel like a kid again just learning to read and getting an interest in it again. Funny how that works.
@Brianna: Welcome and very awesome! The Thing is a classic as my fav is the original A Nightmare on Elm Street :-)For novels, IT by King as I also love The Shining! This group rocks and I got so many recommendations from it, it's wild!
@Brianna - Agreed, John Carpenter's The Thing is fantastic, one of my favorite movies. I definitely watched all the "how they did it" type interviews regarding the special effects. Way ahead of it's time! Also, I'm a nerd and was obsessed with The Thing video game (2002). In the beginning of the game (Spolier-ish warning), you come across the resting spot of the infamous bottle of scotch and only one of the two bodies you would expect to see there.
Hello, my name is Marty and I am new to GoodReads. I've gotten back into reading after a long hiatus. I like spooky books so I thought this would be a nice group to connect with. I'm making my way through some classics and currently I'm reading Dracula. I've read quite a bit of Stephen King and Anne Rice and I enjoyed them but I'd like to branch out more and find more niche stuff. I also like horror movies. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Hi, I'm writing part 3 to my version of a zombie story. Clifton Falls 3 should be released in time for Halloween this year. If you want to check out my books then please look at my website. I have links to all formats, including Kindle, eBook, Paperback, Hardback, & Audiobook...

I've also written a ghost story set at the start of the Covid Lockdown in 2020, but it's only in movie script format. It was optioned by a Producer in January of 2023, so I'm hoping for something good to happen.

Welcome Lee. Feel free to promote your book here- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
We like to keep this thread just for introductions. Thanks!
@Marty: Welcome and so glad to hear you got back into reading after a break! LoL this is one hell of a group for tons of spooky book recommendations so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :-DAs far as recommendations go, do you want some for general horror or did you have any favorite subgenres of horror?
@Jonathan: I had no idea there was a video game for The Thing, and that is so wild that they basically added some "closure" to the ending of Carpenter's movie via the game. I am a gamer myself and will have to look for that one! @LTJ: Nightmare on Elm Street is also just amazing. Such respect for the VFX/makeup artists on that movie, too. I am a sucker for practical effects which the horror movies of that era have in spades.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
@Brianna: Hell yeah! LoL at the time, it was horrifying and what's crazy is that it STILL holds up to this very day! Not even the "remake" was as good as any of those legendary Nightmare on Elm Street movies. You're right, practical effects back then were on a whole other level :-)
Hi, everyone! I’m Cole. I’m an absolutely voracious reader of anything horror. I am a big fan of cosmic horror, especially. But I also love horror that explores themes like grief and love through spooky means. I’m a little bit of a writer myself and hope someday to have a few things published. I read a lot of fiction and fantasy as well, but horror movies and books are sort of my specialty. I’m also a cat dad and a chef. Nice to meet all of you.
@Jonathan: No favourite sub genres yet, I've just been reading lots of vampire stuff lately. Not sure if I like ghost stories though.

@Kirsten I have not! But I will definitely add it to my tbr. I’m always looking for good recommendations!
@Cole: Welcome and very awesome as you came to a wonderful group! What is your cat's name? A pleasure to meet you as well :-D
Hello everyone! My name is Abigail and I am a huge horror fan, but my TBR is getting a bit too small for my liking. My love of horror started out far too young, with my parents excitedly sharing V. C. Andrews and Stephen King with me in middle school. I am particularly drawn to gothic horror, ghost stories, and extreme horror/grindhouse but I am open to absolutely everything. Excited to see what other creepy folks are up to around here!
@Abigail: Welcome and very awesome! LoL you will find many... many amazing recommendations here! So, there is one splatterpunk novel that totally went above and beyond the extreme. I recommend "Dead Inside" by Chandler Morrison. This is honestly the craziest and most disturbing extreme splatterpunk novel I have ever read. You have been warned!

I really enjoyed Dead Inside!! It was one of the first true splatterpunk books I read. I was nervous to read it, so I tried to get my partner to buddy read it with me lol. Whoops. Safe to say, after the clinic scene, I am no longer allowed to choose what we read together without discussing it further!!
@Abigail: Ohhhhhhhhhhh, that's awesome! LOL yeah, that was um... a crazy wild scene, I literally took a shower after finishing Dead Inside because I just felt weird and dirty afterward. I still enjoyed it though, just way too insane and graphic but hey, it did the job and was true to the splatterpunk category!
@LTJ The handsome fellow in my profile picture is Jiji. And we also have one going on 21 who is named Lady. :)
