@Abi: Welcome and very cool! Such great movies you mentioned as you came to a wonderful group. So many amazing suggestions here you'll get over time, enjoy :-D
Hi, I'm Robin. I've been into horror movies and books for what feels like forever. My first books were probably the many fun reads by Christopher Pike and RL Stine for young readers.
I'm working on a personal challenge to read at least one horror novel from every state. It's been slow going because I work these books in while still reading all the other great books out there that attract my attention, lol. Currently on New Jersey.
Adriennelee wrote: "@Robin Patrick That's a really cool challenge idea. Are you following any particular order?"I'm going in alphabetical order. Some states are harder than others, and some states I've ended up choosing to read two (or even three) books. I started 2 years ago, but like I said, I'm not reading for this challenge exclusively, so it's not going quickly.
Greetings from Vietnam, y'all! I am a lifetime lover of all-things-scary (and I credit summers in rural Mississippi w/ my grandmother, who believed in every superstition known to man). I have taught writing/reading to middle schoolers in 8 different countries, and I am incredulous at how the horror genre is never represented in what we teach. But I have LOVED teaching students of varying Asian countries, most of whom who are taught urban legends from early ages and believe ;-). Nice to meet you all!
Hello. I’m an avid reader and dark thriller author. I write with gothic, noir style and social elements of Splatterpunk. Think old school King and a lot of Jack Ketchum or Thomas Harris influences. First pure horror I wrote was Whispers of a Gypsy and now I’m working on a New Orleans vampire legend of the Carter Bros in an origin tale. I had been Bram Stoker juror for years, so habit of reading at least 75 books a year. Nice to meet you.
@Robin: Welcome and very awesome! I also LOVED reading those Goosebumps books as a teenager by RL Stine! Wow, I love that personal challenge idea, YOU GOT THIS! Good luck with everything :-)
@Mel: Welcome and that's so awesome! I absolutely love Vietnamese food! Much respect for teaching writing/reading as that's fantastic. LoL yeah, I know what you mean, I remember in elementary school, they had maybe 8 or 10 horror books at most and the rest were classics/bestsellers/fiction like crazy. A pleasure to meet you and excited about future book discussions with you :-)

Cheers!
Hi!My name is Sammi and I'm a long time horror fan. I recently got re-introduced to the horror genre through Daryl Gregory's Revelator.
I love a good supernatural horror, but I also love anything that leaves me feeling on edge and anxious. The only disclaimer to that is I cannot stand extreme graphic descriptions of violence, especially against women and children.
I am excited to get re-introduced into the world of horror and would love some recommendations! Looking forward to hearing from y'all :)
@Elizabeth: Welcome and very awesome! I love all types of horror as I'm also a huge fan of Dean Koontz! I definitely need to read more Joe Hill! You came to an amazing group, enjoy :-)
@Sammi: Welcome and I've heard of Revelator but have yet to read it. LoL now I need to and so glad you're back into the world of horror, we have monsters and coffee :-)
Hi everybody!I just joined the group and before I forget to I wanted to introduce myself.
I'm Alessandro from Italy. I studied Anglo-American and Spanish American literatures, so I read a few languages. I'm a fan of gothic more than horror, but with strange eons...
Swift trigger, Alan! And thanks. Any suggestion on how to get a bearing in this creepy neighbourhood?

Any suggestion on how to get a bearing in this creepy neighbourhood?"
Mostly by checking out threads that look interesting to you.
If you want recs, we have recommendation threads, and you can peruse the novels, what are you reading, what have you read, and the like. We have Group Reads, Guest Author Group Reads and Buddy Reads if you're looking to read and comment along with other readers. There are reading challenges, the Tavern for general convos and even some forum games. And you can always feel free to ask if you can't find something.

@Alessandro: Welcome and wow, that's so cool you're all the way in Italy! I love Italian food and so glad you're a part of this group, it rocks :-)
Hello, I am Brittany, I am 37 and I LOVE horror books, my favorite horror author is Darcy Coates, she scares the pants off me and I adore her!!! I also enjoy horror movies and just scary things in general. I go to Halloween Horror Nights at universal Studios every chance I get! I'm the type that screams and runs, but has so much fun doing it, I love to get my blood pumping and my heart beating so hard I need an Ativan! Hahahaha. I also like all things dark and twisted, I just read Juniper & Thorn and loved it, very dark, gothic and disturbing! I'm also a goth so my look matches my inner weirdness. If you have a good horror book to recommend, please do!
@Brittany: Welcome and awesome! She's an amazing author as for me, it's Stephen King :-)I have one recommendation for you which is a recent 5-Star read for me which was "The Exorcist's House" by Nick Roberts!
Hi Brittany and welcome! I really like Darcy Coates too, my favorite of hers that I've read so far is The Haunting of Leigh Harker.
Tonya wrote: "Welcome! Is the Juniper book part of a series or stand alone?"
If it's Juniper & Thorn, it's a stand-alone.

Hello everyone! I’m Heather; digital designer, mom, and a lifelong lover of horror film and novels. I used to read a TON as a kid/teen then fell out of it when I started college. Didn’t even touch a book after that until a couple years ago again, something I regret having stopped in the first place. Fell back in love with reading though and have been giving myself goals to read more and more. Excited to learn about new titles from everyone in here!
