Horror Aficionados discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hello all! I’m Kate, and a new Goodreads user. I’ve been trying to get back into reading for a few years, and this year I’ve been finally making time for it. I love horror books and am on a hunt to find something that I find truly chilling - nothing has come close to my first ever horror book when I was a kid (here’s to you, Frankenturkey 🙏)I am still finding out what type of horror I like, so I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone is in to right now. I’m excited to be apart of this group!

@Kate: Welcome and very awesome! I'm glad you're getting back into reading as you came to a wonderful horror book. Enjoy as I found a TON of new authors and novels here :-D
@Kate: Howdy Kate, welcome aboard! Hope your horror discoveries are made plentiful here.(although let's be fair, nothing can surpass the titan of terror that is Frankenturkey)
Hi Kate. Hope you find some great things along your horror journey. I love psychological horror too.

I haven't read it yet but I plan too because I've gotten roughly half way through the show (after a friend literally begged me to and kept telling me "it's so... you!") and it's really such a shame it doesn't have a bigger fan base or that the author himself doesn't either! (he seems to have a dedicated one though!)
I was so pleasantly surprised by the show and I still am, every episode I watch!! I think I can pretty confidently say it's one of my favorite pieces of newer media (along with severance), and I was entirely shocked by it's existence as a whole.
I think adaptations are fine- and Brand New Cherry Flavor is an example of one of those amazing adaptations that entirely flew under the radar because it wasn't even advertised properly to Netflix's own base,,, like it's really such a shame... I would have no Idea about it if it was not for that one friend, you know? I just am not a fan of the ones that milk out more famous pieces of media, over and over again :0

I'm also a huge fan of unconventional storytelling which I think indie authors do get a bit more of a chance to do? So maybe that's why I'm so "please!! give us big screen indie novels!!!" bc theres nothing I would want more than to see how it would translate to screen haha
Ah, im going through a phase of watching playthroughs- and so I'm obsessed with a couple of game developers and watching people play their games lol. kittyhorrorshow's ANATOMY is so chilling to me & I could watch every play through of it forever
@Mila: Yeah, indie authors/novels can be a lot of fun since you never know if you're reading the next Stephen King. I actually have a friend who told me of Freida McFadden a while ago, before The Housemaid, and she said to keep an eye on that name as she's going to be big! LoL this was when she was an unknown indie author as well! That's so awesome! I used to spend a lot of hours watching pro Esports tournaments but now pretty much watch my all-time favorite streamer, DrDisRespect! :-)
Hi, I'm Greg, I've loved horror movies since I was a little kid. I'm no longer a little kid and I am a horror genre writer (among other things). I recently Indie Published my debut novel Il Lupo which hinges around an encounter with a werewolf.
Hello my name is E.J. I have always enjoyed books but fell out of reading form about 20 years. I started back up this last summer and between actual hard copies and audio books I have started an unhealthy habit of about 4 books a month. My favorite genre is Horror especially the supernatural and end of word ones but I can enjoy any story as long as it is told well.
Char wrote: "Who says that's unhealthy? Certainly no one here would say that! Welcome to HA, E.J.!"
My wife when she looks at the bank statement. That is her idea of a horror Novel

Welcome E.J. And in my opinion, limiting yourself to four books per month shows remarkable restraint :)! I've sort of lost count of how many books I've purchased recently.

Hello all, my name is Denis and I am from Massachusetts. I am mostly into horror but also enjoy other genres. Like most of you, I'm sure.
Thanks, Char!! I am happy as hell to be here! :) I keep seeing all of the monthly group reads (with and without guest authors) over here and wonder why it took me so long to join?
Doesn't matter as long as you're here now. We have a lot of fun here, and getting to chat with authors once in a while is pretty nice too. :)
Hi everyone, my name is Brittany. I’m somewhat new to this group and very new to the discussion area of this site. I’m horror nerd/freak. Love other genres as well but Horror got me through high school and horror theory and gender studies carried me through university. It’s like mental comfort food to my brain. I’m always looking for something to scare me so deeply it scars me a little. I know I’m a weirdo but I love the adrenaline high and the irrational fear that comes with it for weeks to follow. I first experienced this with pet sematary when I was 15 and I’ve been hooked ever since!
