Hi guys! I'm new to the site and am pretty much clueless, but I thoughr I'd give joining a group a shot :)I LOVE reading horror and creepy sci-fi, but I'm stuck in a rut of reading the same authors over and over *cough* Stephen King *cough* so am on here looking for any recommendations people have!

Hi Poppy and welcome! I kind of joined this group for the same reason. I've been here for a couple of months now and my eyes have been opened to so much more than Stephen King (forgive me, Sai King)! You're in the right place. :-)
Welcome Poppy! We really try to get newer/lesser known authors on everyone's radar for the same reason. There are so many great ones out there now!
@Poppy: Welcome and no worries, we got you! LoL yeah, that was me while growing up, all I kept reading were novels by Stephen King and Dean Koontz, it wasn't until I joined real-life book clubs I expanded my reading. Now it's all about groups like this that truly help me discover a ton of new authors to enjoy :-)
Hey I'm Kasey! Despite getting easily scared, I've always loved horror novels and movies. I'm not so much a fan of psychological horror but ghost stories are my favourite. Joined to find more book recs of those type if stories and overall discuss horror books.

Welcome to HA, Kasey! I love ghost stories. Have you read Sweetheart, Sweetheart, by Bernard Taylor?

@Kasey: Welcome and that's awesome, LoL I used to get scared easily but it's such a thrill and over the year, I've grown to love all things horror, especially novels. Excited to chat with you in the future with this genre we love so much :-)
Hey there, I'm Cyra.I've always been a fan of horror since young.
Stephen King is my number one favorite author. :)
I'm excited to publish my debut horror zombie novel this October on Halloween!
Hello everyone, just joined. Big speculative fiction fan, including (especially?) horror. I started my journey with Stephen King back in the day, but have moved on to other authors like Stephen Graham Jones, Shirley Jackson, Octavia Butler, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and Paul Tremblay. Particularly love supporting women, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC authors. I also love books that do more than just keep you up at night but also stick in your mind long after you've put them down. I've tried my hand writing horror a couple times but they tend to come out as comedic horrors. Might pick it back up again, we'll see.
@Brandy: Welcome and awesome! Thanks to this group, I also got into Stephen Graham Jones and Shirley Jackson! I have to check out the other authors you mentioned as yeah, same here. I love novels that scare the hell out of me but also make you think about things, you know? :-)
Welcome Brandy. Speculative fiction with a horror slant. I don't believe i'm familiar with that. Do tell if you don't mind me asking.
Hi, I'm Jennifer. My favorite horror authors are King, Grady Hendrix, Poe and J.W. Ocker. I am also a big fan of the old Alfred Hitchcock short story anthologies. Lots of great authors there.
I have a Substack called Autumn Lives Here that is all Autumn and Halloween articles and book reviews.

Good to hear such a glowing review of GR!
Good afternoon! I just joined and I thought I would finally take a moment to introduce myself. I'm Louise, 45 year old horror and true crime obsessed children's librarian in Illinois. I really love Shirley Jackson, Stephen King, Poppy Z. Brite, Carmen Maria Machado, Grady Hendrix, and I am always interested in discovering new horror authors. Queer, BIPOC, and women authors to the front! <3
