Hey everyone. I've been a member for a while, but I don't think I ever formally introduced myself. I'm a longtime reader of horror, and a relatively new writer of it. My work has appeared in numerous publications and podcasts, including the Best of Apex Magazine, Shock Totem, Tales From the Lake, and LeVar Burton reads. I have a few books out as well, including my chapbook "Symphony of the Night," and my debut short story collection, "Hollow Skulls and Other Stories" (published by JournalStone Publishing). My current favorite authors include Ramsey Campbell, Michael Wehunt, and Mercedes Yardley.
Hi Paige and Samuel, welcome to the group :)
Hi Aficionados,I'm an indie author who still has a day job, but I'm planning on writing full time shortly. I mostly write psychological horror, but I'm branching out into fantasy horror too.
If I could make a request... I'm interested in finding out more about what unsettles readers in the books they have read. I'm saying unsettled, because I'm not sure if it is possible to scare readers anymore. (I'd also be happy to know if you have examples of stuff you've read that has scared you.)
Anyway, I don't want to take up too much space here, so I'll sign off.
Oh, and thanks for having me, Eli
Hello, Horror Folk,Indie author of horror and other topics, fiction and non. Delighted to join the fun!

I'm a fan of Michael Wehunt as well. :)
Hello! My name's Richard, and to cut to the chase, I love all things horror. Always have done.
As a child, my two favourite toys were a 1/16th scale model skeleton and a rubber shark. I guess the signs were there early. I'm now well into my forties. Hangovers last longer and hurt more, more grey hairs every day and I creak a little more than I used to.
However, the fire hasn't gone out, I can still be every bit the idiot I used to be and I now have a vast collection of model skeletons.
And the same rubber shark.
My preference is towards supernatural and occult fiction, more so if it leaves a little ambiguity, a sense of 'other' rather than something overt and obvious.
That said, I'll watch and read the dumbest, gory pulp twaddle and enjoy that as well, so not narrow in my preferences. I particularly enjoy Laymon, King's earlier stuff, Herbert and the more graphic, silly Hutson stories.
I'm also a writer. I like to think my stuff's good, but that's (hopefully) for others to decide.
My latest one has been credited to someone else on here. He looks like a nice ol' fella, and if it gets any terrible reviews, I hope he doesn't take it personally.
No idea where I post a link to it, but it's probably poor form to put it in an introduction.
Anyway, er, cheers!
Richard.
Greetings and salutations friendo Richard.

Hi all,
Okay stuff about me, …….
Hate that question and never have a good answer, so will make it quick.
I am an author first, an artist (bad) second, a photographer third, and finally, a Consultant. Unfortunately for me, being a Consultant pays the bills for me and the family.
I am not convinced I write horror, though, as I have never been scared by a book, any book. Instead, I have just always enjoyed them. Although I write as a fan of HP, I am also a huge fan of detective novels, notably Joseph Hansen, so much of his style bleeds over, I suspect.

Hey Douglas,
If you're inquiring about promoting your books, we have a section specifically for that - the Author/Publisher Promo area located here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
If you're just wondering generally what to do on this board, peruse the sections, find subjects that appeal to you and join the discussion!
We have areas dedicated to novels, short stories, author/genre recommendations, etc., as well as What books are you reading/have just finished reading.
For general everyday chat, you can check in on the Haunted Tavern thread in the top section.
Towards the bottom of the board are sections for non-book related things, like what movies/TV shows are you watching, what song are you listening to, what bizarre news articles have you stumbled across.
Hopefully that helps get you started.

So I will peruse seems the best bet... my next book is due out soon. Maybe I will start promoting then but not really my scene. I just like writing / doing the artwork for them

Welcome tot he group Douglas. This is a good place to start in Goodreads. When I first started I looked at books I really liked and started checking out reviews. Introducing myself to people who wrote them. Sometimes stalking them for a while to see what groups they were in. Yeah, I was one of those creepers! In general I think we are a good group of people. I hope you find what you are looking for here in this group or one of the many others Goodreads offers.

Introducing mys..."Huge fan. One of my best memories was seeing them in concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. We were just discussing about what a blue version of that song he wrote over in the Haunted Tavern. Murder Ballads is one of my favorite albums. I love their mid 90's- early 2000's period. What I like to call their "Gothic Lounge Lizard" period!
Have seen them quite a few times, although one of his early birthday party gigs and the poetry tour he did with the sections of the orchestra and the poets sticks in my mind more.
He did an amazing version of Wild World on the Piano.
And yes I can see why you would equate Murder Ballads with Gothic Lounge Lizard, for seem reason I always associate it with country blues of Robert Johnson and Blind Willie Johnson for the apocalyptic feel he brings to it.

Hello everyone, I am Bambi and I'm from Indiana. I've been into reading and watching horror most of my life. My babysitter in grade school even owned and managed a graveyard, which was awesome! I work as a Juvenile librarian for a public library. I'm always up to read anything "scary". True stories are the most fascinating to me, but I will read anything that can keep my attention. If you have any suggestions throw them my way!
