My name is Ted (T.E.) Grau, and I'm a reader and writer of horror fiction, happy to be a member of a Goodreads group devoted to the same.

Hello!Been a horror fan since I got my first horror book around the age of 5. I saw the Exorcist at 4 (not the best age for viewing it!).
I recently read an essay on Horror by HP Lovecraft and he recommended Fitz James O'Brien.
Of modern authors Richard Matheson is probably my favorite.
Hi all,I've monitored this board for a while but now have a question that has probably been answered. (I just can't find it.)
I'm in a writers group and the topic of how to define the horror genre just came up. Does this group have a published manifesto on how it describes horror vs terror vs gore vs ???
Thanks!
Hey everyone! I'm Courtney. I work a fluffy fun job at an animal rescue and then spend majority of my free time engrossed in some horror (literary or otherwise). My all-time fav is Shirley Jackson and most recently I read Call of Cthulhu (my first Lovecraft story) and had an alright time. Looking forward to some recommendations and buddy reads! I tend to go for shorter novels (~250 pgs is the sweet spot)/short stories/comics because attention span but occasionally I'll make an exception and read a big boi. Send me all your favorite haunted house stories and I will be eternally grateful. :)
Welcome Courtney and D.S.No D.S., we don’t. I think how we define horror varies from person to person.
Hi D.S.I'll have a stab at that....
Horror is the realization of terror.
For me the objective of an effective horror story is to first lay down a creeping foundation of terror that is finally revealed with abject horror.
But, that's just my take.
Hi, I'm Morgan from Australia. I live way out in the boondocks. Reading is my main thang. Love horror, the gorier the better.
Welcome to HA, Courtney, D.S., and Morgan!
@ D.S. I think most people would agree that everyone's "definition" of horror varies to a certain degree. As for myself, I tend to put books into further sub-genres if I want to get "technical"; splatter punk, atmospheric, body horror, psychological.... yet all falling under the broad HORROR umbrella.

Hello there, I'm Frank Mulero, I'm a horror writer who loves movies as much as books. Later on the day I saw "Hannibal" the 2001 film version. I haven't seen that one on a while. I'm currently reading "Kiss Me First", which is not straight up horror, but more like a mystery. Anyway... the photo on my profile is a spider, because I really like 'em. I guess... we'll talk later.
Welcome to all our new members! Great to see so many in just the couple of days I haven’t been on. I can barely keep up. :)
Hello everyone. My name is Brian. Just joined the group. I look forward to great discussions and exchanging book ideas on this genre.
Hey peeps. Thanks for having me!My name is David and I run a book review blog called FanFiAddict.com.
I’m a huge horror fan, though my blog consists mainly of fantasy and science fiction reviews.
Love Kealan Patrick Burke, Nick Cutter, John Horner Jacobs, Jonathan Janz, Stephen King, among many others.
So awesome seeing another horror community outside of IG!
