You're welcome!
Hi! I'm Carcosan. (my real name is Jacob but we can't have everyone knowing that! It's awkward when someome says it 3 times and I find myself appearing behind them).
I'm pretty new to Goodreads so I'm interested in finding like-minded people to steal book recommendations from - feel free to friend me if our tastes are at all similar! My drugs of choice are cosmic horror and weird fiction, as well as anything else bleak or surreal or transgressive.

Bierce has been on my to-read list forever!
Where's the best place for me to start do you think?

well, he has one called An Inhabitant of Carcosa is why i ask. his most poplar is An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge: An American Trilogymy favorite is The Death of Halpin Frayser for the dream sequence. Can Such Things Be?is a good place to start and it's all public domain.
I'll look into it! An Inhabitant of Carcosa sounds promising; I'm a huge Hastur/Carcosa mythos fan as you can probably tell but aside from Chambers' stuff most of what I've read is more recent.
I do love a good dream sequence too :) The TBR stack grows! Thank you for the recommend.

Hello and welcome to HA, everyone!Carcosan, LOVE your name! I enjoy cosmic horror as well. I recently read The Fisherman and The Immaculate Void and they both kicked serious cosmic ass. I hope you enjoy your time here!
Thanks Char! For both the add and the recommendations.
My wallet's gonna take a kicking on payday :)

We actually had Brian Hodge here, participating in a group read of the book. It was very cool to be able to ask him questions about it while we were reading. Our author participation group reads are a lot of fun.
I'll keep an eye out for them! I actually loved "I'll Bring You the Birds from Out of the Sky" so I'll not hesitate to read more of him.

Hello and thank you, Bill! Welcome to all other new folks here, too. :) :waves: I feel compelled to visit this group daily to see what everyone reads and recommends. Thank you all for sharing so openly about yourselves, your work and your favorite authors! It is incredibly inspiring thus far and I am learning a ton. :)Be well!

We are glad your enjoying it here Ravyn. I love the group too and check it on every break and lunch 🖤
Thanks for being so welcoming everyone! :)
My name is Cosmic. I was/am interested in commenting on the The Hunchback of Notre-Dame thread. I moderate the thread Breaking the Code To The Catcher In The Rye. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...Although i don't think all books are written the same way, i thought it would be interesting to read The Hunchback of Notre-Dame as if their was a "message" in it.
When i did this for the Catcher In The Rye i read all the books, watched all the movies and read the books that inspired the movies. I was reading some history to The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Victor Hugo, along with Lord Rothschild, wish to raise money and have the cathedral restored. I believe it was. During this restoration work that the spire that burned had been added. Meaning that it was not part of the original design. See wiki.
Anyway i had not thought about this book being in the genre of horror before joining your group. I will write more in the thread.

Hello! My name is Alexa, which means that Jeff Amazon owes me money. I've loved the horror genre ever since I started watching The X-Files at night when I was 14, and my great struggle in life is the sheer amount of bad horror films I have to get through on Netflix in order to find the good ones that I use to curate my recommendation list that I whip out for friends and family around Halloween.I've only recently started to look into horror literature. I've read the occasional short story, of course, but my first official horror book (and my first Steven King book) was It - which no one warned me about length- and content-wise, so that sure was an Introduction. (I remember that I read for about 3 hours, then looked at the progress bar on my Kindle to find that I was 2% into the book.) Though, I'd argue that The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly, which I read several years ago, counts as horror!
It's nice to meet you all, and I look forward to being a part of this community!
Welcome Alexa! Let us know if Jeff Amazon cuts you a cheque. Also let me know what scary movies you recommend. Always looking for recommendations.

Welcome!
Hi all, I'm David and horror is my favourite genre since watching and reading Goosebumps as kid. I've wrote everything from scripts to articles and I'm currently focusing on short stories and my first novel. I prefer creature horror to physiological most of the time.
