I don't even know where to start with beginning to talk about this book, my heart is still just a blubbering mess.

Kaltain. My brave Kaltain. She started out as someone I couldn't stand but became such an important character in her small role in these books. She will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I am just going to say it, I really ship Lysandra and Aedion lol.

I love Rowan, Aelin, Lysandra, and Aedion so much, but I really want to talk about Manon because again she owns my heart LOL.

Okay, how to even begin in sorting out my feelings right now *breathes in and exhales slowly*. Okay so, first, just a quick service announcement, Asterin and Manon are back baby! The Thirteen are back and bringing in a new age and I am here and fully support it!! I AM SO EXCITED FOR THEM IN THE NEXT BOOK. GOSH, I LOVE THE THIRTEEN SO DAMN MUCH MAN! Second, I swear if Perrington or Manon's grandmother does anything or so much as look at the Thirteen the wrong way I will go through this book and take them out myself LOOL. Third, Perrington is Erawan which I absolutely did not see coming! Manon and the thirteen better not get hurt!

ALSO, I SHIP MANON AND DORIAN SOOOOO HARD!! GOSH PLEASE GIVE THIS TO ME! I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE PLEASE!! (I want to read Manon and Dorian fanfiction but I don't want to spoil the rest of the series for myself HAHA).

I appreaciate Katlain, but I think Sarah did a good thing by making her die the way she did. I think it fit with her 'character'.

Lysandra and Aedion are so cute! I totally ship them. Woah, I ship almost every character in this book...

The Thirteen are so epically amazing and I wish I could read more things like that! The whole Erawan thing makes me want to grab a sword and stab him. Multiple times...

I love Manon as a character! Her and Dorian gotta be my favorite characters, along with Rowan. Rowan will forever have a special place in my heart, though I'd love it even more if he just confessed his undying love for Aelin. But we can't always get what we want. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1-19 :

Dorian - (view spoiler)[ It‘s heartbreaking reading about Dorian being semi-aware inside the darkness and he thinks no one is coming to save him... but he’s holding on! I’m so glad he’s is making it hard for the demon and still fighting. (hide spoiler)]

Chaol - (view spoiler)[ I can’t believe Chaol is a rebel now! Love that he didn’t go to Anielle after all. Aelin and Chaol fighting about Dorian is so sad tho... It’s awful how she and Chaol are still constantly blaming each other for everything. I wish they’d just work together and sort it out so they actually have a shot at saving Dorian. I’m also glad Chaol finally told her how to get magic back. (hide spoiler)]

It is horrible thinking about what Kaltain must have gone through, especially when Manon calls her ‘his broken woman’ and you see what she’s become. I was so happy when Chaol trusted her with how to bring back magic too. And you’re right, it’s such a double standard with her and Dorian’s magic to Chaol. But I think he’s always found it hard to accept her history, even when they got her out of Endovier. (hide spoiler)]

Aelin talking again about her and Aedion’s bond makes me think they’re more like siblings. Hated when he found out about the blood oath, tho as soon as Rowan turned up, I knew he was gonna let it slip. I’m so glad they worked it out tho. (hide spoiler)]

Rowan - (view spoiler)[ so happy to see Rowan. Aedion and Rowan being territorial is so funny 😂 the bathroom scene with her washing Rowan’s hair was so intimate, they’re acting like lovers. Manon - (view spoiler)[ Manon’s eyes are gold. I wonder if they’re related and that’s where the gold ring around Aelin/Aedion’s eyes comes from. It’s horrible thinking about Valg-Ironteeth babies... you can see Manon starting to doubt things tho... asking if the Valg are wicked, what would happened if they returned. I was definitely fooled with the ring thing... such a sucker. Disgusting what Arobynn would do when he had control of her.. Glad it was faked! Can’t believe he’s dead now too... I thought for sure it would mess up somehow.

I hate her blaming herself for Rowan’s reaction to them nearly kissing. I get that he panicked because of the tattoo but did he seriously have to be such a jerk to her? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Yeah I think that is true. Chaol has always disliked Aelin's past and all of the killings she has done. I found it really surprising that Cain was the first person he had killed because he made it to the position of captain of the guard without actually killing anyone which seems highly unlikely. First quarter (up to chapter 18) - (view spoiler)[Eek Chaol made an appearance in chapter one, alongside Aelin. I was so happy to see them reunite, even if it wasn't an altogether heartfelt reunion.

I was so sad when Aelin accepted Arobynn's offer for one Valg demon in exchange for his assistance in the rescue of Aedion. He is one of the least trustworthy but most powerful characters and the last thing I wanted was to see Aelin paired with him, again. The suit he sent her was as deadly as it was epic, although I don't think Aelin appreciated the gift of Lysandra to kill quite as much. It shows how little he cares for those supposedly under his care and protection. I want the two women to pair up and take him down!

Aedion (why do so many of the characters start with A??) still kinda remains a mystery to me and I can't really make my mind up about his character.

I'm still struggling to connect with Manon, too. I do love the descriptions of the Thirteen riding, though. I especially loved the wildness of her second, Asterin (seriously, another A?) and I hope we see more of her character. (hide spoiler)]

Manon really grew on me, in later chapters that featured her. I find her a tough character to warm too, but I'm guessing that is the point as her personality is very controlled, determined, and focused. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter (up to chapter 37) - (view spoiler)[The escape plan was hectic but actually worked. Arobynn is safe but at the price of Lysandra knowing Aelin's real identity. I'm tightly crossing my fingers that they really are on the same side and she doesn't betray them.

It was interesting that Manon revealed to Elide that the king created the wyverns. I don't think I knew that before? I love Abraxos. He does just seem like an overly large, iron-toothed puppy and he seemed to pity or empathise with Elide, when he noted her chains and injuries.

I still hate seeing Dorian loosing who he is. It was also hard to read about his confusion over who Aelin was and why she didn't kill him. IChaol was so angry about what she almost did during the escape plan and I can foresee any future reunions being far from amicable.

"And when they were both finished telling their stories, when their souls were drained and grieving—but gilded with growing joy—she nestled down across from Aedion, her cousin, her friend." This made me feel soft! I was unsure about him during his first chapters but seeing their reunion has me convinced that he definitely a good guy.

Both Rowan and Aedion are so adorable yet so ridiculous when they attempted to vie for alpha male status. I love seeing their loyalty and love for Aelin! (hide spoiler)]

Abraxos is the literal sweetest. All of the other mounts are out here fighting and killing and he just wants to lay in a field and smell flowers. It's so sweet that he forms a connection with Elide because they both know how it feels to be chained up.

Like he takes this girl who is obviously a princess and teaches her that her kingdom doesn't need her and turns her into someone he is hoping to control. Like what was his plan before he could control her with the ring? Just get him to eventually get back the throne and make him king? I feel like that's not something she would have done anyway.

The growing old thing is also really sad now because Aedion also has the chance of having a long life so they will both just have to watch as Aelin grows old and dies.

So the valg king thing...

-Manon has golden eyes and so does the valg king.
-Aelin has gold rings around her eyes.
-There’s some kind of bond between Aelin/Manon, tugging them towards each other...
-The witches with gold in their eyes made the valg inside Roland scared for some reason.
-The prince inside Dorian said that Manon has the eyes of the valg king.

So maybe Manon is a descendant of the valg king, along with some of the other witches and maybe Aelin also? The eye thing and the bond between Aelin/Manon seem to suggest something like that. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter (up to chapter 60) - (view spoiler)[Wow! Lysandra is a shifter! It was sad to learn that the face she wore wasn't her real one, just what she was stuck wearing when magic fell.

The dinner at Arobynn's was so interesting and I loved reading about how manipulative each player around the table was. No one really spoke their true intentions aloud. I can't believe Arovynn slipped the ring on Aelin's finger. I had forgotten about how he had taken it from their valg prisoner. I was shocked all over again that Aelin wasn't really under his control and had fooled both him and the reader. I'm glad he later received the ending he deserved at Lysandra's hand but it seemed he would take his revenge from beyond the grave by the clause in his will.

I'm so glad Rowan and Aelin reconciled as I totally ship them together. I think I've wanted to pair her with a different individual for every book though, haha!

I've really enjoyed this book and, so far, I think it might just be my favourite in the series. There have been so many twists and the different storylines are starting to entwine together. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I think what happened with Lysandra is that there was another part of the will that wasn't included with the rest of it so Aelin didn't have the chance to get rid of the message. Still confused how he knew tho. Like Rowan only knew because ha had smelled some before. No one else knew even Manon who just smelled something different on her and wasn't able to tell what it was.
