Janine (janineem) | 4 comments Regency Romance I've read in the last two years but this book could have been publish anytime.

He has a prosthetic arm and a leg, facial scar on one side must marry to gain fortune before his 30th b'day.

From memory (at at my age it's not perfect!) The hero was a captain (?) and it was in Waterloo he lost his arm and leg and had burns to one side of his face. He has been living with a relative to heal (an Earl) and finds out that he stands to inherit a fortune from an aunt if he marries before his 30th b'day. If he doesn't marry a male cousin inherits. No one told him of this till now as he was trying to recuperate.

The female H is living with her cousin and sharing her season. She's isn't as pretty and must marry before the end of the season or take a position as a governess and her mother must find somewhere to live.

He proposes to her not knowing that she actually finds him attractive and is kind of insulting but he thinks it a convenient arrangement for them both.

They marry and spend some time at his new estate, he can be somewhat of an a$$. They return to London where she is kidnapped by the money lenders of the hero's cousin to get his debts paid. She's rescued in the end and all is well.

Sorry for the long post! But this book is driving me crazy as I can not remember the title or author!! :/

Did you read a "dead tree" or an E publication of this book? Was it a romantic suspense or strictly romance?

Do you remember why she was sharing the season--and why she had to be married or take the governess position. Why did her mother have to find somewhere to live? Other than borrowing money from money lenders, do you remember anything else about the hero's cousin?

Janine (janineem) | 4 comments I had it in html format.

There is only her mother and herself left and don't think people they're staying with are related. She only has till the end of the season to find a husband.

The girl that is around her age is very selfish and pretty and I know that the she finds the H repulsive because of his face and missing limbs. He makes a point of approaching the selfish one at balls from what is explained later it's because he knows she can not stand to be around him.

There is a male cousin of the H that will inherit if he doesn't marry and he thinking that the H likes the selfish pretty female courts her to make sure she wont get involved with the H. Later, once the H/h marry and the cousin has lost the money he no longer has anything to do with her.

When the H proposes he asks her to keep it a secret even from her mother until the next morning so that the villainous cousin (lol) won't find out till it's too late. They marry by special license in a friends home (The friend is an Earl and is married to I think a French woman) and depart to the inherited estate.

There is a night spend in and inn on the way and they consummate the marriage. It's emotional for him and he is nasty to her and makes her go to her own room after.

I think it must be part of a series...

Taming the Beast by Heather Grothaus? Here's a description on Amazon:

"Grothaus (The Highlander) dresses up a standard forced-marriage story with references to Beauty and the Beast in this capable 12th-century historical romance. Lord Roderick Cherbon has returned home from the Crusades physically and emotionally scarred. He must nonetheless wed before he turns 30 or lose his home and wealth. Enter impoverished Lady Michaela Fortune, who believes herself engaged to Roderick's cousin, handsome Lord Alan Tornfield. When Alan weds another, humiliated Michaela decides to take Roderick's offer instead, though she knows it will be hard to win his trust. Alan confuses matters further by continuing to court her, but does he want her as his mistress or is he more interested in the Cherbon estate? Though marred by occasional anachronistic language (Necessary rooms? Oh, you know... where you go to tinkle), this romance is solid and entertaining."

Janine (janineem) | 4 comments No that's not it. My H has no title. He's just a Mr. But thanks Kris

BTW - Will have to check out Heather Grothaus, I've not read anything from her. ;)
