Andy wrote: "Can the name itself be used? i.e., Parnell Hall hall is a noun"Yes, the name can be used in it's entirety. Hall works.
Laura wrote: "What if a word, such as ward, is a noun and a verb in different context?"That's fine. As long as it's possible to use it as a noun, it'll work.
Pompeii : The Life of a Roman Town by Mary Beard - Last name: BEARDIt works if it's the entire name right?
Trish wrote: "So would the name Rosemary be okay, as it's the name of a herb?"And also has the noun "Rose" in it
Book Concierge wrote: "Trish wrote: "So would the name Rosemary be okay, as it's the name of a herb?"And also has the noun "Rose" in it"
Yep, Rosemary works either way--as rosemary, the shrub, or rose, the flower.
BEARD works and, yes, it's OK if it's the entire name. COMB from Macomber works, too.
Kristina- This looks a lot like the riddles my Logic professor used to put on our exams: technically every author's name is a Proper Noun, so I'm assuming Proper Nouns like Paris Hilton won't work and we're looking for Common nouns such as hilt (whatever happened to Paris Hilton?)
Jonquil wrote: "Kristina- This looks a lot like the riddles my Logic professor used to put on our exams: technically every author's name is a Proper Noun, so I'm assuming Proper Nouns like Paris Hilton won't work ..."Correct. A proper name wouldn't work, but hilt works. Thanks for bring that up, it's not very clear. ;-) Paris Hilton did just kind of vanish didn't she? Eaten by the Kardashians, maybe?
Kristina Simon wrote: "Paris Hilton did just kind of vanish didn't she? Eaten by the Kardashians, maybe? "LOL You should pitch that as a new reality show, there just aren't enough of them.
JennRenee wrote: "will plural work Walk on Earth a Stranger by rae carson
Cars as the plural noun."
As long as it's a plural found within the name, like CARS in Carson, yes.
Kristina Simon wrote: "As long as it's a plural found within the name, like CARS in Carson, yes."ARSON is also a noun found in Rae Carson
Book Concierge wrote: "Kristina Simon wrote: "As long as it's a plural found within the name, like CARS in Carson, yes."ARSON is also a noun found in Rae Carson"
True! I didn't even notice that.
Kelly wrote: "Oliver Sacks with OLIVE is ok?"Yep, I even used Oliver = Olive in the task description. Different Oliver, though. ;-)
D wrote: "Charles Bukowski"char" is a noun of chiefly British use--is it acceptable? Thanks."
It's coming up as a noun in the dictionary linked in the task description, so sure, it works.
Tineke wrote: "Does 'reich' for Kathy Reichs work? I don't know if it's being used in the English language."Yes, that works.

Dictionary.com has both listed as nouns and they both have 4 or more letters. So, yes, they work.

Help Thread
Read a book written by an author* whose first, middle, or last name contains a NOUN of 4 or more letters intact within the name. Ex: Katherine Applegate (Apple or Gate), Walter Lord (Lord), Frank Beddor (Rank), Lauren Oliver (Olive). Not sure if the word in question is a noun? This site may help: Dictionary Proper nouns (someone's name or the name of a place, for example) will not work. If the entire first, middle, or last name can be used as a noun (ex: Walter Lord (lord) or Mary Beard (beard)) that will work. Books written by multiple authors may be used only if all authors' names fit the task. Required: Identify the word you are using when you post.
*Only authors that are identified as authors (or a default blank in the author role field), co-authors, or contributors may be used for tasks involving author information. Other roles or functions such as editor, illustrator, artist, translator, introduction, designed by, foreword, preface, assistant or afterword may not be used for author-sourced tasks. Ask about other roles identified in a Goodreads record in the season's General Questions help thread.
