Just as it says on the tin - how many books have you read so far in 2014?

And any immediate favourites? Which would you recommend to everyone?

Kate Ormand | 3 comments I've read 10 books so far this year. Two were Strange Chem titles and I loved both. But I have to say STOLEN SONGBIRD was just sensational! I can't stop thinking about it. So I would recommend that - look out for it in April, all. It's not one to miss! <33

Todd (brokenfiction) | 1 comments A lot more YA than I did last year; I'm up to 21 so far. The best of those probably would have to be Diana Wynne Jones Castle in the Air and Catherynne Valente's The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. Incredible books, both.

Kate (kateforwinternights) I've read 26 books so far this year - mostly science fiction or historical fiction. My favourite new books amongst them include Mike Carey's The Girl with all the Gifts and Giles Kristian's God of Vengeance (Vikings!). Really looking forward to Under Nameless Stars by Christian Schoon - vets in space :)

message 5: by Laura (new)

Laura 46 books so far :)

Dumpy Unicorn (dumpylittleunicorn) 11 so far, currently residing in Westeros for the duration with A Feast For Crows.

Earlier on in the year I've been reading Shadowplay by Laura Lam which was wonderful.

I have the traditional dilemma as to what to read next and am torn between Joe Abercrombie's Last Agreement of Kings and Joanne Harris' Gospel of Loki.

CaroleHeidi I've read 11 so far, my top three are probably:
The Fault In Our Stars, John Green.
Burial Rites, Hannah Kent.
Bitterblue, Kristin Cashore

:)

Mark (markchitty) | 1 comments 18 books so far, which, is pretty good going for me.

I'd have to say that The Lives of Tao is right up there as one of the books I've enjoyed the most so far. Also re-reading Peter F Hamilton's Commonwealth books - three down and now on to Temporal Void :)

As for what's next... well that's always the great dilemma. I have Katya's War and Student Bodies on the to-read list as I rather enjoyed the first in those series!

message 9: by Kate (new)

Kate (kateforwinternights) Mark, I'm reading Hamilton's Naked Dawn trilogy at the moment (reading the Neutronium Alchemist). Loved Pandora's Star! Katya's War is excellent.

Johann Thorsson (johannth) | 1 comments A handful. I think I'm setting a record for abandoning books this year. I have, however, been reading a ton of short stories.

Immediate favorite books so far are Jeff Vandermeer's Wonderbook: The Illustrated Guide to Creating Imaginative Fiction (great for writers) and Joyce Carol Oates' The Corn Maiden and Other Nightmares.

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 1 comments I've read ten so far. A bit of a mixed bag, in genre terms. The only YA I have read this year is ACID by Emma Pass. I really enjoyed it

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily D (fallingforya) So far 17! I would recommend The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski.

message 13: by Mieneke (new)

Mieneke (pallekenl) I'm up to 28 as of last night. My top reads thus far this year are Helene Wecker's The Golem and the Djinni and Laura Lam's Shadowplay :)

I'm only on 8 :( I was ahead of myself up to a couple of weeks ago and now I'm just on track. Must get better! Shiver is the best of those, loved it.

Shiver is amazing!

Scott Marlowe (scottmarlowe) Hmmm... I'm at 10 right now. Wrapping up Hobb's Rain Wilds Chronicles, then back to some Last Apprentice books.

Kimberly (Book Swoon) (bookswoon) I've read 18 or so books so far this year. Two of my favorites so far are Danielle L. Jensen's STOLEN SONGBIRD and SORROW'S KNOT by Erin Bow.

Rob (valashain) | 1 comments 11 novels, a short story and a novella. I'm aiming for 60 this year.

message 20: by Jax (new)

Jax (liveotherwise) | 1 comments I've read 15 books this year, and I'm part way through 3 more. (That's for me. I've read 142 picture books to the children too ;) )

message 21: by ☼Bookish (new)

☼Bookish in Virginia☼ (ren_t) 67 books, but some of those are children's books, so it's hard to say.

But just finished: Lockwood & Co. The Screaming Staircase, and loved it.

Also loved, loved, loved, Black Dog.

I'm one of the very few people that absolutely hated WINNER'S CURSE.

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 2 comments Finished my 44th, Oryx and Crake last night.

message 23: by Carol (new)

Carol Riggs (carol_riggs) I've read 15 so far. Some good ones:
--BEASTLY by Alex Flinn, an urban retelling of Beauty & the Beast. Really enjoyed that.
--BREATHE by Sarah Crossen, a story of a future world that's short on breathable air.
--CONTROL by Lydia Kang, a dystopian involving genetic modification with X-Men-like results. Very cool club scenes with mood-altering drugs.
--BUMPED by Megan McCafferty, a chilling (yet often humorously written) future where only teens are able to birth babies.
--MOONLESS by Crystal Collier, a creepily dark tale of the Soulless and the hidden realms of magic.
