Does anyone here like reading self help and personal development books?

I'm kind of addicted to them at the moment (and I'm hoping that in a way a little bit rubs off each time!).

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

I haven't actually read any I think. Which ones do you feel have made a difference?

Melody Brooke | 2 comments I have several on my recommended list, including my own, "Oh Wow This changes everything". I love Brene Brown's Daring Greatly, and of course the old stand by, "The Power of Positive Thinking" which transformed my life. My book is a way to understand what happens between people that makes things go wrong, and what to do about it. You are on a great path!

Hi Melody :)

I'll look up your book. I have an interest in failed relationships (this sounds odd doesn't it) because I'm currently writing a book on amicable divorce and beyond. You'll be pleased to know though that my current relationship is going grand :) (TBH so is my failed marriage!).

Interesting you should recommend 'The power of positive thinking'. I woke up this morning and started looking for a book on positive thinking so you saved me a lot of effort!

Someone recommended me a book 'The proper care and feeding of marriage', have you heard of it? I don't think it's kind of my thing though as it's a bit.... traditional!

Melody, I shall look your book up, does it apply to all failed relationships or particularly romantic ones? Whilst I have little experience with romantic relationships breaking down. I'm still young and have only had two longish term relationships. One of which I'm still in.
I have experienced breakdown in relationships with other people in my life, this tends to affect the way I react to new people so would be interested to read about this.

I'm currently reading The Introvert's Way: Living a Quiet Life in a Noisy World and I'm finding it fascinating and relative to me in a personal way. I consider myself an introvert, and have always felt there were negative connotations to that. This book presents introversion in a very positive way and I'm finding lots of good qualities in myself. Very worthwhile!

That's really good to hear Terri! Being an introvert isn't a bad thing. If the world was all extrovert can you imagine the noise???

I'm not sure what thread this would fit under, but another nonfiction book I'm reading is The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History. It's science-based but not hard at all for the layman to understand. I'm learning a lot about what humans are doing to this planet, and much of it is quite disturbing. I'm getting a lot of ammunition to those of my fellow countrymen who adamently deny climate change.

Ah fair enough. I'm glad your enjoying it, I'm not sure if I'd be able to get through that one! I'd give it a try though. I envy people who can read anything, there's a few that I think I should really read that but...

Can someone tell me how to update the challenge for the number of nonfiction books you intend to read this year? I can't get the hang of it.

Cody Connolly (codyrayspeaks) | 1 comments I have recently read Life.Now. Overcoming the Ten Obstacles That Derail Your Dreams by Shannon Primicerio ! I found it incredibly inspiring and uplifting!

It is a Christian based book with a focus on the Bible & Jesus, so if that's not your thing you may not enjoy this book so much. As a Christian myself, I really found it enjoyable.

Thanks for the addition to the par Cody. I think most people here are probably open to trying most books. Welcome to the group!
What parts of the book most stood out for you?

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Terri, I PMd you. Hope that helps!

Terri - I have the introverts way on my amazon wish list. I put books on there and then if you check back later it tells you if they've been educed in price. Ive dropped on a few this week reduced to 99p or free! I am an introvert and so is DH so I'm rely interested int his book.

Hi Cody and welcome! I'm christian and would love to read the book you recommend. Thank you!

Well after a lot of friends recommended it to me I bit the bullet and downloaded The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands. I thought I'd hate it but I'm loving it and our relationship is progressing deeper everyday. I'm amazed!
