Melek (chaissar) %10: I can't get into the story, no matter how much I try. If you are to tell the story of Maddie, why the hell are you writing like you were with her all the time?

Hmm her sarcasm is a bit off putting like she doesn't take things seriously... I guess it's the only way she can 'fight' back now and she is trying to be as difficult as possible

Melek (chaissar) %20: She is killing me. The story doesn't sound realistic to me, let alone being appealing. I don't like the main character, she is annoying if you ask me and she is just tiring to be with. And yes, I was disturbed by her sarcasm too, but mostly because she is just not good at being sarcastic. She makes jokes that fall flat, then laughs and goes on with more of them. This is hard to read.

Melek (chaissar) %33: I started to like this. Though I still don't like the mc, she is way too irritating for my liking, the story is going well now.

Melek (chaissar) %49: I'm taking a break for today. This is going good now, so I will go on when I have enough time to actually sit and read.

Maddies flying job is awfully boring to read about... Not liking Queenies random comments that bring us out of the story she's telling. ("I sound so authoritative!") have no clue where this story is going but feeling like a tragedy is about to happen.

Melek (chaissar) %57: The first part is finally over. I hated the first narrator, so I hope I'll like the second for the sake of 43% I have left.

Melek (chaissar) %75: Gee, all they do is cry. Also, I'm bored of this narrator as well. This book could be fun for someone that is interested in the planes, but it is not for me. I can wait to finish and get rid of it.

Melek (chaissar) Done. I don't know how I feel about it. I think I'm just sad now.

Tati Colleen and I will be reading this on January 1st! Feel free to join!

(Could one of the mods please change the date?)

Colleen | 170 comments Are we doing a schedule? If we are can we have it done by the 4th?

message 63: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati No, no schedule, read at your own pace. Just hide the spoilers.

Colleen | 170 comments Ok :)

Colleen | 170 comments Going to start the book today!

message 66: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati This is interesting so far, though I'm not sure I like the main character

message 67: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati I'm at 25%, and I'm not sure I'm enjoying it... And I still don't know what is the purpose of the book: is it a war book or a friendship portrayal book??

message 68: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments Does it say how old she is at the very beginning of the book? I'm confused :P
Also started the book :)

message 69: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati If it does, I've missed it... She reads as being a young character, so I'd say around 17? 18?

message 70: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments Ok just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing it :P
I'm finding the beginning kind of slow but interesting. Also when I was reading the beginning it took me a while to figure out what side she was on and who she was giving the codes to.

message 71: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments I'm currently on page 38 of the book and its super slow! I'm finding it hard to get through so far. Hopefully it picks up.

message 72: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati Well, not to put you down or anything, but I'm at 39% and it hasn't picked up...

message 73: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments This is going to take a while to read :P

message 74: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati It is... I'm wondering if this is a LGBT book, tbh

message 75: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments Hmm I never thought about that...maybe :P

message 76: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments It's interesting how she is writing this to the Germans. (At least I think she is because of her usage of we and you) in the beginning, also it's kinda interesting how she is betraying her country and giving the codes and stuff. I can see why she is doing it but I don't know...

message 77: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments 23% done or 80 pages. For me it's starting to pick up a bit. I love ww2 books! And historical fiction in general!!

message 78: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati I love historical fiction as well, but this is not among the best I've read.

I'm hoping there is a huge plot twist at the end, or I'll be very frustrated...

message 79: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati Around 65%

(view spoiler)

message 80: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati Finished it! I'm relieved to be done with it. It was not a great book, for me, it just didn't click for me

message 81: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments have you read the book thief? im finding this interesting but super slow once again :P
im only about 30% done but i hope to finish in a few days. sorry if i go MIA for a bit. i have a couple big tests for school that i need to study for :P

message 82: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati Don't worry about it!

And yes, I have read The Book Thief (took me a couple of tries, but I finished it).

message 83: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments did you not like that either?

message 84: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati I liked it better than this one, but it's not my favorite book.

Some WWII books that I enjoyed were Winter of the World (The Century Trilogy #2) by Ken Follett (it's a sequel, sorry about that) The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr Prisoner of Night and Fog (Prisoner of Night and Fog, #1) by Anne Blankman

message 85: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments Oh, I really want to read all the light we cannot see. Also about halfway and there is No Action at all. I don't quite see the point of this...

message 86: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments I think I'm going to put this book down :(
I am just not very interested in reading this right now. It's taken me 10 days to read half the book which is only about 160 pages or so which is super slow for me. Just not feeling it the moment. Sorry.

message 87: by Tati (new) - rated it 2 stars

Tati Don't worry! I totally understand! I almost gave it up quite a few times, the only thing that kept me reading was the promise of a twist

message 88: by Colleen (new) - added it

Colleen | 170 comments I will probably pick it up again in a few weeks to see how it ends :P

message 89: by Christina (new) - added it

Christina | 4293 comments Heya Rachel, I read a bit and it's quite a lengthy one that I don't think I'll be able to finish. I'll read this early next month if it's okay. Sorry

Rachel Gunter Yeah of course no problem! :)

message 95: by Christina (new) - added it

Christina | 4293 comments Thanks :) Maybe we could read this next month if you're not too into the book? But ofc you can continue but I'll just be late to it. I went a little crazy for the bookish blocks challenge

Rachel Gunter If you don't mind I'm going to keep reading because I'm about 120 pages in at the moment and I planned to use it for chunky on the blocks...but I'll definitely discuss it with you in June, we could maybe read the sequel too if you like it?

message 97: by Christina (new) - added it

Christina | 4293 comments Yes no worries!

Rachel Gunter I know what you mean about going crazy with the blocks though, I've drawn myself a block grid and colour coordinated it haha
