Am I the only person who likes Nico even after everything?

Rick probably put it in there because something is going to happen in BoO to do with it. And my thoughts on the 9 year-old thing are this: The world is changing, and gay people are a lot more common than they used to be. Its probably good that 9 year olds are getting exposed to this early, because otherwise they might find out the wrong way... Just saying! Apart from that, I agree with you entirely.

UT.

Julia, if there was an up-vote, it would be pressed.

Oh, I still like him. He's my little Nico-Wico!!!!!! I just don't like how is character development kind of changed dramatically in the House of Hades. It's like he's a new person.

What are you talking about? What does up-vote mean?

I liked him before, and I like him now... PEOPLE DON'T CHANGE GUYS! HE IS THE SAME PERSON AS BEFORE, JUST WE NOW KNOW WHAT HIS SEXUALITY IS! Sorry if that offended anyone, I'm just saying...

People DO change. I've changed my personality. I used to be seriously shy and hated being around people, and now I'm really outgoing and crazy and I love talking. People change all the time.

Honestly, Nico has always been one of my favorite characters.
I've read tons of stuff about why people like Nico, but I would say the main reason is that he's RELATABLE.
People have pointed out in the beginning of the book he was basically a child, and most people have a soft spot for children in general. Okay, I can see that. Nico is so innocent at that age anyway, asking all those totally awkward questions to Percy that make Percy want to stuff Nico in a meat-flavored sack and give him to the wolves, LOL!
Also, of course, there is the point that he does have good looks. That certainly doesn't hurt anything :).
But I think the main reason people love or hate Nico is how they compare to his feelings.
I think to anyone who's ever been an outsider, especially to those who have been an outsider when it was no fault of theirs, they really like Nico because he's an outsider too.
To anyone who's lost someone who's close; they sympathize completely with Nico's grief of Bianca. Although to some people see Nico as a bit extreme, willing to sacrifice anything (including another soul) to bring back his sister, I imagine that a lot of people probably understand what it feels like to the point where they would give anything to get back one thing.
To anyone who's ever carried a really heavy burden because of something or other, and escaped by avoiding people and being on their own—well, that's practically Nico's whole personality almost throughout the books, LOL! The fact that Nico kind of overcomes at the end of the series allows people who may suffer from the same problem believe in a brighter future for themselves too.
And yeah, I'm not going to deny it, the fact that Nico is gay probably made him a lot of friends and enemies too.
That's the reason why I think some people LOVE Nico while those who can't relate as closely to Nico often don't enjoy his character as much.
Sorry I know that was super philosophical! I'm not trying to accuse anyone, and obviously I hope very few people have ever felt as lonely, abandoned, or sad as Nico!
So . . . now that my huge rant about Nico is over, I was wondering, was anyone else blinking back tears at the end of the story? To me, few stories in Rick Riordan's book have made me laugh or cry as much as this one. (The Blood of Olympus was kind of like that too, although not quite as much!) Leo finally finding love was awesome and hilarious. Piper defeating Khione and waking up Festus was amazing (and mildly funny too). As for Frank defeating the monsters in Venice, Nico getting turned into a corn plant, Hazel almost dying all for one serpent and some barley cakes that taste like sawdust, I was laughing SO hard throughout that entire chapter. But at the end, Percy tells the stars hello—for Bob. Fortunately I read all the companion books (one of the things I love about these books is that unlike most spinoff books, you a) need to read the other books to understand them and b) need to read them to understand the other books), so I understood all about Bob the Titan and how he became Bob. That made it even more heartbreaking in the end when Bob sacrificed himself. It was kind of a repeat from The Blood of Olympus—a villain (Luke) sacrificing himself to save the good guys and dying a hero; however, Luke's character was never developed (at least to me) as much as Bob's was. So I literally cry every time I finish that book. It's not my favorite book overall, but it definitely has some of my favorite scenes it, and it probably stirred my emotions more than almost any of the other books I've read so far.

Yeah, but I can garentee you, where I live, barely any 9 year olds know about this stuff. Thanks;)
