Am I the only person who likes Nico even after everything?

Well thanks for the suggestion.
If Veronica hasn't left yet.

I see. So you're not just the stupid kid you sound like. You're a troll. Just here to piss people off. Good trolling, well played. Now grow up, please.

Yeah... I actually like Nico more (even though he's still distant to percy)...

When writing a story, all threads have to end or the reader feels cheated. Since we know that Nico feels that way about Percy, I really doubt that will come up again in the next and probably the last book of the series.

To top it all up, all her "arguments" are redundant, don't make sense, are insensitive to many and she has hurt people.
____
So, it would be better if she had not written what she did.
Because my any age friends and family are all getting into trouble calling her arguments insensitive and homophobic. It is clear that Anamika has an issue with homosexuality and she cannot move past her redundant argument that keeps going on in circles. Neither can her friends who most here have called a bully.
I mean, Anamika keeps spoiling her already bad reputation as an homophobic individual with each and every rant.
I am taking an example from my fellow goodreaders and making a final issue of this.
I mean, Anamika was never liked and now that she has said what she has, she would just be hated more or not liked.
There are hundreds of other things to show such homophobic behavior. These things, quite literally, hurt people and make them feel alone. Why continue this? This book is read by many children, it promotes diversity.
Not all children are the same. Alienating a child because of who he is or who he likes can end up into serious trouble. It also gives me goosebumps whenever I think about it.
Well this book is not read only in one country of course. Especially in places like India, it promotes tolerance and acceptance for diversity. The children later begin to accept each other with just this. It later becomes a less serious problem and the country ends up enjoying the book. And about my question,it isn't actually necessary for Rick to add this. But, thankfully he does. According to his interview, he says it gives a chance for parents to talk tot their kids. But my parents don't even know I've read this book, so I will tell them and discuss it with them. Since I just don't make a big issue about it I have no problem. But my friends, who are bullies, will certainly end up getting into trouble with just one small topic. This is an example of how the country needs to grow.
Well people might end up calling each other as 'Nico' indirectly trying to hurt others feelings. And some people take it seriously and ends up in total disaster as I call it. Of course, this is total idiocy that shows the insecurities of the bully. It shows that the bully is rather small minded and afraid of...himself?
This does not form new bullies as bullies will find something else to torture a poor student about.
Bullies are abusive and hateful people and there is soemthing wrong with them or in their lives.
It is of course my job to teach other goodreaders about this...
_____
oh gosh, I can't go on. I tried to put a positive spin in each one of her comments. But, I got tired. There are better things to do with my time than deal with an intransigent child. (She ack she was a minor right?)
Anamika, if you take offese with ANYTHING that I just posted, do note that these are YOU OWN WORDS AND POSTS just in a positive light. Sometimes I change a single word.
I bid adieu to the troll, Anamika.

You deserve a cokefloat for that...

Yeah, that sounds pretty good.
Anamika wrote: "Secondly all your thought about me are completely wrong."
Hmmm, I do not know if you actually read the post and noticed that what I did was just take your own posts and changed a word or two.
You took an issue with it. With your own words. These are the things you mentioned about the author. I just made them into a positive. I did not make up stuff. I used YOUR posts.
And, I did not even talk about your "blowing off heads" comment. Not at all in that posts.
Anamika wrote:"So long you can keep your opinions to yourself."
No. I will not. You didn't. Why do you want to give me less rights than you have. You have opinions and expressed them, I will do the same.

A cokefloat is ice cream soda. And the other meaning is too disgusting to mention and i hope that is not what you meant. So,, I do not know the inferred meaning here either. Can someone elaborate please.

Alright Morrigan,I'm not restricting you from expressing your feelings.Well according to your comment you thought I was a troll. That basically meant my comments.Well yo..."
Anamika, I think Raychylle meant you just handle your own problems and leave the other people's theirs.
Like, if you hate it, don't read it. And leave other people to their own problems.

And, WHO COULD DISLIKE MCDONALDS?! It's like disliking pizza.. It's like disliking the only thing that restored the faith in humanity..

You can warn them about what might happen, but you don't have to assume that everyone shares your opinion and tell them not to read it due to what happens.

That actually might be a good idea. :)

I agree with everything you've said throughout this thread Anamika %100. Sorry, I would've backed you up, but I gave up any social media(ish) stuff for lent. I live in America and sadly I think it's becoming very common for gay content to be put in children books and movies. My family does not accept same sex marriage, and nothing will make me ever change my mind about this. I do not have anything against gays as people, but I do not and never will agree with their beliefs. I have in fact, warned my best friend that there is a certain part in this book (without giving away that it was Nico) where a character is gay, so she can choose to read it or not. Overall, I think that Riordan making Nico gay was unnecessary and very random. Honestly, what did it do? Some people will like him more now, some will like him less, and others won't even give a hell about this. To me it was clear that Riordan did this not necessarily to develop Nico's character more, but so he can just express his opinion on the matter and also perhaps for political correctness too.

I agree with everything..."
About the "Gay and Lesbian" category, I also do not believe it should be there, but for entirely different reasons. I think that these types of people should be accepted by society, as well as these types of books, not singled out and put in a category.

I know how you feel. I was really upset when they made Nico homosexual, because for one reason I just thought it was completely unnecessary and because I do not like reading/hearing about gay or sexual stuff. It gives me a disturbed feeling. Honestly, this little unnecessary part made me think of Nico differently now, get upset with Riordan for putting this in a children's book, give me a disturbed feeling while reading the rest of the book that I couldn't enjoy it as much, and made my parent's really upset and now they may not let me read the Blood of Olympus. Yep, all that from one stupid sentence...

Yeah!! It's not okay to judge someone like that. It's like, "Oh, I didn't know Annabeth had gray eyes. I don't like her now." Nico is who he is and there is n..."
But why dont you like it. Nico being gay will help children reading the book to understand that being gay doesn't make the person a freak, causing them to being more accepting

Because I do not approve of gay beliefs. I'm almost 13 and I don't like reading about gay or sexual content in teen books, much less children's books. Also, I found the part unnecessary; I don't think making Nico gay really affects someone in real life.

I mean like, I don't think how an author creating 1 gay character will change people's opinion on this matter. It could, but I just think it's unlikely.

I like reading children's/middle-grade books for that specific reason. I do not like reading gay or sexual content in books, so when I read children books, I don't expect to find any of these stuff in it, which is why Riordan adding in this, really upset me.

..."
Again, let them read it and let them decide for themselves.

So, what your saying is, you 'don't' want her to try to help her friends? What the hell kind of advice is that? If she feels like she needs to warn her friends about this then let her. Why do you care what she tells her friends? I warned my best friend about this. Just lay off.

And, just read Rick's post.. Nico's having POV on Blood of Olympus."
It's about time. I mean, Nico has been in the Demi-god books since Titan's Curse, I think the poor kid deserves a POV, honestly xD

That is so exciting! Nico is my all time favourite character no matter what happens

I'm bisexual, and it is super scary to realize that you are different and not know what to do about it. I'm 14 and catholic which means my priest thinks that I am "unholy and wrong". That hurts.
With not knowing who to tell, I turn to the books I read. Nico has always been my favorite character but in this book I realized how brave he is. To admit to something like this, even to one person, is huge. To tell just one of my friends took me 2 months to work up the courage. It felt like I was hiding behind a mask of my own making, but I couldn't take it off.
What I'm getting at is that you weren't inside his head and you don't understand the fear he felt. He can't help who he is, no gay person can. It is who they are, and I promise you all know someone who is lgbt or somewhere else on that spectrum.
Also if kids are exposed to stuff like this when they are young in a story they love maybe they will be a little more excepting when they are older. So when someone they know comes out they will be supportive. Instead of trying to tear them down. We can't help but exist, it is who we are. You just have to deal with it. Sorry if that is harsh, but it is the truth.

Exactly! For further clarification, here's an excerpt of Riordan's explanation on Nico's sexuality, from the FAQ page on his website. I've copied the crucial portion below (my emphasis)—
I am committed to writing appropriate books for the middle grades. This means no bad language, no gratuitous or explicit violence, and no sexual content beyond what you might find in a PG-rated movie – expressions of who likes whom, holding hands, and perhaps the occasional kiss. The idea that we should treat sexual orientation itself as an adults-only topic, however, is absurd. Non-heterosexual children exist. To pretend they do not, to fail to recognize that they have needs for support and validation like any child, would be bad teaching, bad writing, and bad citizenship.

All I'm saying is that 'I' find it inappropriate for little kids to be hearing about homosexuality or any sexually whatsoever at a young age. I have honestly never met a kid in my life who said he was gay, and I'm nearly 13. The fact that Riordan would right a CHILDREN'S book where one of the important characters is gay, is inappropriate in my opinion. If he wanted to express his opinion on this matter than put it in a teenage book, not a children's one.

this is not your country or home where you say shit and ppl pat you on the back. blowing off heads is used so frequently there? how baffling! you used bad language. you are the kind of person who cannot stand when some one else is right. you have no manners and do not know how to socialize.
if i say you are wrong, you threaten to brutally kill me. why do you have to be rude? what did i do you? it is like you hand-picked me for your abuse. you have made me lash at you which i never do. i respect ethics and etiquette and view unnecessary rudeness as unbecoming. do you know how many times i edited my posts when i was defending myself. i had to make sure i don't come off too harsh lest i elicit more threats.
i knew that you are not capable of saying sorry. you are a broken gramophone which is impaired beyond repair to repeat things.so wont argue with you.
blowing off is used only by terrorists. you do not know english. you either learn the language or quit appearing in discussions at all.
i just felt there is no closure if i don't say this before i formally quit the discussion.
don't you ever forget that you have terribly hurt me with harsh words and manipulated me to leave.
