Being able to read and process that quickly would be fantastic! I mean, I get through a lot of books, but it would be wonderful to actually be able to read all those books on my to read shelf. Plus, if I could read that quickly I could also read those ones I didn't add; I could read every book in the world!

Irish Camus (irishshayne) I do! Hehehe :-)

And you're making no apologies, are you? :~)

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (hannahsophialin) Ahh, it's a wonder why I hate nonfiction. I only read it when I have to do it for school. Otherwise, I don't.

I can't read audiobooks, being partially deaf. I'm not sure if it's changed now though. I'll probably focus on the voice than anything else then, XD.

I'm legally blind in one eye, and I've always been fearful that something might happen to my one 'good' eye left... so it gave me some incentive to finally give audiobooks a try. I have been listening to one non-fiction audio... even narrated by the author. Not bad, but the subject matter makes me an emotional mess.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments The main reason I do a lot of listening to audiobooks is because of my lack of sight, so I can sympathize. I have a kindle with text to speach, but if it wasn't for that I'd be stuck with just audiobooks and braille books now.

message 57: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot I was always a 'one book at a time' person but recently that has changed. I like to have at least two totally different books ready to go ie an urban fantasy and a historical fiction, or a horror and a history non fiction. Then if I hit a temp slump in one I can switch straight to the other so I don't lose reading time. I also have an old favourite on standby. My tbr is at 992 so I can't risk not continually reading coz if I get tired of a book and don't have something else to dive back into instead, I can go into a full reading slump for weeks!

I read 2-3 books at a time this does not mean I read themallthe same day just that I dont finish one of themaka reading at the same time.
I have one book I read in bed,one book I read in my living room and one book I read whenever.
I do this because I like to mix it up,by reading high fanrasy one moment and history next.

message 59: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 738 comments I try to only read one book at a time, but I always find myself getting distracted and wanting to start something new even if I'm already reading/enjoying something else. I've found that a lot of the time I'm reading two books––one physical book and one book on my Kindle. But sometimes I'm reading like 3-4 books at a time, although I try to avoid that.

*high fives* I'm just like you! ^_^ Well, in my case it's one review book, one whenever and one or two (usually one) required.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 149 comments At the moment i'm doing a beta read for a friend, and other than that I'm not finding time to read anything at all. Rather disappointing as there are loads of books that I want to read, many of them recommendations on here.

message 62: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Even with how quickly I get through books I have a long list of books I want to read (many of which I haven't even brought yet, but quite a few that I have copies of and just haven't had time to read yet).

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments I'm reading two books right now but want to start a third as I'm almost finished with my first book!

message 65: by Mkittysamom (last edited Apr 15, 2014 05:05PM) (new)

Mkittysamom (mkittysabkworm) | 77 comments I read different books at the same time because some are really hard to read like Psycology I'm reading Will and Spirit by Gerald G. May
Some books I am reading to review: In A Cream Packard by Edward Hackemer , The Number of the House is 13 A Short Ghost Story by T.R. Sutherland , I have scribed and oyster so I have books half read on there too like: A People's History of the United States 1492 to Present by Howard Zinn , Fire and Ice (Warriors, #2) by Erin Hunter , 1984 by George Orwell , Monster Island (Zombies, #1) by David Wellington , Dead Tide by Stephen a North , and The Body Language Handbook How to Read Everyone's Hidden Thoughts and Intentions by Gregory Hartley this is a netflix for books subscription. Sometimes I get bored, distracted, something new arrives or I regularly hunt for discounted books. I borrowed Samantha Moon All Four Novels by J.R. Rain from lendle. And then I am in therapy so I read meditation, dbt, borderline and trauma books Mindful Recovery A Spiritual Path to Healing from Addiction by Thomas Bien , Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder by Marsha M. Linehan , The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Workbook Practical DBT Exercises for Learning Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, And Distress Tolerance by Matthew McKay , and Full Catastrophe Living Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness by Jon Kabat-Zinn . I have kobo, kindle, iBooks, watt pad, B&N apps so it gets crazy and then today I found some great stuff for a dollar @the dollar store No Mercy (Were-Hunter, #6; Dark-Hunter, #18) by Sherrilyn Kenyon , signed copy of Compass Rose by John Casey , Reserved for the Cat (Elemental Masters, #6) by Mercedes Lackey , all hardcovers and more. Lastly I love classics but they are really long: The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle , and A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens . I think that's it..most of the books I am reading now. Helps to have lots of time and ADHD but the only thing that confuses me are fantasy series because I've read so many they get all mixed up in my head. I tend to not stop when I start a series like the warriors I just started :) hope you enjoy my answer. It comes easy to me and I read in all formats, oops I forgot the open book library I had something checked out Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, #1) by Kathy Reichs lol. My mom nurtured my love of words when I was a toddler and could read and write way before kindergarden. I'm a super reader... (From Super Why on PBS)

message 66: by Kritika (new)

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) I usually read 1 book at a time, but sometimes I might be reading a paper book and listening to an audiobook at the same time. I feel like that doesn't really count as two different books because I listen to the audiobook when I wouldn't normally be able to read (i.e. walking around, while doing physics homework, etc). So if I do read multiple books at the same time, they're different formats and I have certain times when I'll read one as opposed to the other.

message 67: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (cleowulf) Yes I actually read more then one at a time since I can mentally bookmark where I have left off in each novel. Also enjoy to keep my friends guesses what's next.

message 68: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments I am legally blind.. my distance vision corrected (with glasses) is 20/450 combined. Probably less right now as I need a glasses adjustment.

I have retina problems. I decided to register for the library for the blind because my main issue with audiobooks is there is no way to adjust speed... which the library for the blind fixes because you can adjust speed on the books and there is a huge online downloadable section as well. CAN'T. WAIT :D

I might ACTUALLY like audiobooks :3

message 69: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (cgk22) I typically only read one book at a time. I like to give the book I'm reading my undivided attention.

After a while you get used to the faster speeds. When I first started using a screen reader I had it really slow, but now I have it faster, and the same goes with listening speeds in general.

message 72: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) Interest level for me really. Sometimes I'll start a book and it'll be really good but then it'll peter out and I'll start another book that has that level of excitement I want again.

It can be the opposite too. Sometimes a book is TOO exciting and I have to put it down for a bit and detox with a lower excitement book.

message 73: by Donna (new)

Donna (donanicole) | 897 comments Yes! I never thought i would read more than one at a time but then in May i started walking Three to four miles every morning and listening to an audio book. So now I always have one I am reading and one I am listening to. And like someone else said, if a book is going too slow I will go to another book that has the level of excitement I'm looking for.

message 74: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I used to. I also used to read much, much faster. A few years ago I forced myself to slow down and spend more time with each story and I've honestly loved reading so much more since I did.

So no, if you're talking strictly novels. But if we're talking comics, short stories and scripts then yes, I'm pretty much always reading multiple things.

message 75: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Mandoki (mjmandoki) | 16 comments I agree that reading more than one book at a time can be good. If one book is slow or serious, I need another one that can make me excited or smile.

message 76: by These Violent Delights (last edited Sep 13, 2015 08:09AM) (new)

These Violent Delights (Robin) I am currently reading 2 books:

Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4) by Sarah J. Maas & The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

I usually read multiple books at a time if I am currently participating in a Read-A-Thon and/or the books I am reading are in different mediums.

message 77: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Mandoki (mjmandoki) | 16 comments I like the idea of different genres. You can easily separate them in your mind. How many books do you have to read in the read-a-thon and in how much time?

message 78: by M. (new)

M. Austin | 5 comments Yes, the idea of reading two separate genres simultaneously is a good one and would probably cull my DNF list!
I usually read one book at a time, though I have a bad habit of leaving books I've taken an indeterminate break from on my "currently reading" shelf so it usually looks like I've got three or four on the go.

message 79: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Mandoki (mjmandoki) | 16 comments Leaving those books on the currently reading list is helpful to the rest of us. We can see how many are still there for you, even if you are taking a break from them! So, thank you for doing it!
