Finished Maid for the Millionaire.I think I can start read City of the Beasts by Isabel Allende and fix the Central America goal, but it is 400pg so it will take a bit longer to finish.
Okay, guys. I downloaded Ashes of Izalco for the Central American challenge. It's a quick read, but I'm not sure if I can get it done today.

Hey, sorry I haven't been here in a bit! I've finished Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trailand have started reading The Alchemist. Neither fit a goal at the moment. I should be done this one quickly, it's only 197 pages.

Finished Demon road by Derek Landy (512 pages-thats according to Amazon since I have an Ecopy and it doesn't have the page number for this on GoodReads)

The Gods Have Spoken
The Mars the god of War has been pleased with the Gladiator Games. He has granted each gladiator a boon to be able to wish away one goal that has festered and turned sour. Gladiators wishing to use this boon must only mention their wish for a goal to be gone and speak to the gods mere mortal representatives (also known as "The Mods"... The Mortal Operations Delegation Squad).
One additional boon will be granted for each Gladiator upon the start of Round 2, Round 3 and Round 4. Additional boons may be acquired through sacrificing 3 books to the gods. Sacrificed books may not be used for attack or defense points of a gladiator. If a boon is not used it may be carried over into the next round.
All Hail Mars!
      I finished:
by Jessica Sorensen 08/08/15I added it to the spreadsheet.
About the above, I'm not completely sure I understand it. We can remove a goal we have a hard time completing in exchange for a new goal? If we don't want to exchange one now we can save it for later rounds.
I'm thinking though that no one has bid in on the X author so maybe that should be the goal to be exhanged for a new one? Unless someone is already working on it and I missed it?
City of the Beasts by Isabel Allende finished, she is born in Peru, so that fits the Central America goal.I also understood it like that. We can, if need to, remove a difficult goal and get a new one for free once per round. I would also suggest the X-goal, but I think Kate is supposed to start reading a book that fits, is that right Kate?
Even if we don't use it this round, we are allowed to bring it with us to the next round.
new goal Read a book whose author (first or last) starts with KShannon's The Elite by Kiera Cass fits, so I'm just gonna use that one.
Kiera Cass (author of The Elite) which I read at the start of the challenge should fit the goal for K

I think I've got one for the undertaker goal if no one else has one, but it's 473 pages which might take me a while because it's my birthday tomorrow and I'll be busy for the next few days

I think I found a book I can read if no one else already has one on their lists.Shannon, mine is only 235pg so I can take this one so you can celebrate your birthday=)
The Undertaker's Cabinet is finished. Sooo not my cup of tea, quite morbid actually...Anyway, another goal to be checked=)

new goal Read a book that is in the Amazon 2008 bestsellers (http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/...) Alyssa is reading The Alchemist, which is nr.97 on the list, Hurrah!
BTW guys. Peru is not part of central america.Read a book written by an author who was born in Central America City of beasts Silje 09.08.15 Isabel Allende born in Peru

Since we know this goal is very difficult, don't worry about trying to backtrack. Just remove the qualifications and you can have 4 goals. Note that you'll have to be back down to 2 again before the spreadsheet will populate again.
My bad, mixing with South America, so sorry! Delta, didn't you have a book that fit the Central America goal?Ashes of Izalco?

If it helps Crixus & Varro & Callisto have completed the goal so you can do some snooping to get ideas.
Yes, I have Ashes of Izalco, but I wasn't able to start it yesterday. I should be able to start and finish it tonight.

Sorry for the delay, guys! Yesterday was a complete wash - I was away at a funeral all day into the late evening (sort of an Irish Wake...) and obviously got no reading done. I will pick up my "X" book from the library tomorrow, so don't use the boon on that goal unless you really want to. I'll try and read it as quickly as I can (although I'm not a super-fast reader, but I try.)Anyway, I did finish Frog Music tonight!
Frog Music
Author: Emma Donoghue
Pages: 416
Goal: Read a book that contains the word "leek" - page 101 in the ebook edition: "The season's nearly over, I tell them, it's halfway through September, time to eat leeks and apples, but they're still craving their cuisses de grenouille..."
      I finished reading

by Kaitlin Bevis. It says 194 pages on Amazon, mine was an ebook. Sorry I have not contributed much till now as I have been really busy with social functions going on at home.I'll try and read as many books as I can.
I also completed I've Got Your Number

by Sophie Kinsella on 8/8/2015 having 387 pages. We could've used both these books for the challenge about Author name starting with K. :/

So are we all set on goals? As of right now our goals are:Read a book whose author (first or last) starts with X
Read a book that is in the Amazon 2008 bestsellers
Read a book with a weapon on the cover
I just started an "X" author book: I Am China by Xiaolu Guo. Might take me a couple days, but I'll finish it up as soon as I can.
Are the other two goals being read for?
Any and all attack points will be great, too. We're not in last, but we're in the lower half, so let's get reading! :D Some of the leading teams have seriously high defense points (43 points for Agron? Really?), but with a few more attack points we can knock out a few more wins.
Finished Get What's Yours: The Secrets to Maxing Out Your Social Security, 336 pages. It doesn't fit any challenges, but apparently it's #1 in the Budgeting and Money Management category on Amazon.

Great peptalk, Kate!=) My goal was to be in the top 8, we'll see if we can manage that. All goals are read for; Kate has the X with "I am China", Alyssa the Amazon 2008 with "the alchemist" and Anita has the weapon with "a rush of wings".
I'm trying to read a book a day, but I'm going to visit some friends the rest of the week so I can't guarantee anything. Will try to update the spreadsheet whenever needed, but Anita might have to be the one to go to for a few days.
I'm working on the book goal Weapon on the cover.43 goals completed already. I really thought we were doing great?
I'm working on
She holds a gun in her right hand, so it will fit the goal as mentioned above.I don't know if anyone is covering the goal about Amazon 2008 bestsellers. Do we have to go to amazon to check for those or do they have a listopia?
I'm going to be starting on
when I get home from work today.Just started work yesterday after 3 weeks vacation. I'm swamped. Seriously 150+ mails a zillion invoices. plus all my other things to do. Usually I listen to audios during work, but when I'm so far behind I can't concentrate on it.
Anita wrote: "I'm working on the book goal Weapon on the cover.43 goals completed already. I really thought we were doing great?
I'm working on
She holds a gun in her right..."I think we're doing well, but some of those teams have some serious readers on them - like multiple-books-a-day readers. Hard to compete. But I feel like we're holding our own. And we'll merge with a new team at the end of the week, so hopefully we'll work well together and get a lot of wins. :)
I wish I was a faster reader, but I've been trying to fill up what free time I do have with reading in order to help the team.
I haven't been reading as much as I have done previous this year, but I'm slightly getting back on track. I usually finish a book every 2 days when everything is going smoothly. I hit a reading slump in June that dragged into July, but I've reached a turning point. So hopefully I'll be able to contribute some more later.

I just had a panic moment. I was going to start Vengeance in Death, as I bought a box set with the next 5 books in audio cds. Aparently I need to get my DVD player changed soon, as it seems it can't run the CD, it kept playing the firs 20 sec. of each track.I don't have a DVD player in my laptop. I don't know why I didn't make sure to have that when I bought this one. Luckily I had borrowed my sisters' laptop when this one was in for an error, and I hadn't handed it back to her. She has a DVD player in her old laptop, so now I'm listening to it from there. Phew!
Finished Stones, 313 pages. It doesn't fit any challenges, but it will if we need an author of Native American descent.

I am currently reading Night Road by Kristin Hannah. I am sorry I haven't been able to participate more. I normally average 2 books a week, but over the past few days its been tough to find time to read.
I think you are all doing an awesome job. Defense goals are being met and attack points are stacking up :)

I know at least one of the other teams have had this challenge, maybe we could browse their spreadsheets a bit?
I'm off to bed, it's 2am, and I just fell asleep on the couch trying to finish a book, but I will have to do it tomorrow:P Have a continued nnice weekend everyone=)
