Spreadsheets
Master Spreadsheet

Team Spreadsheet

- Once all columns of a goal have been filled out a new goal will appear within 5 minutes.

- Do not change existing pages. You may add a new page to your spreadsheet if you want to track additional information.

- Mark books as used in your books list once they are used for a goal.

- Only books read during the current round may be applied towards goals, once the round has ended those books may no longer be used for a goal.

- Once you merge teams, you may use your books for your partner teams goals. List them in your books list and on their goals sheet. Mark them as used.

- If you end up with more than 3 open goals, contact a moderator for help.

The master spreadsheet and team spreadsheet has been added to the beginning of your team thread.

Captains and co-captains should message the moderator account with their team name and google doc e-mail to be added to the approved editors of the team spreadsheet.

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Hi everyone! I guess I'll start the introductions: I'm Silje, work as a dentist in Norway and love reading books on my free time. I have not been a captain or co-captain on a challenge before, but I have participated in a few challenges so I will do my best!=)

message 7: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Just a few hours left till the challenge starts! I have a book or two that can fit one of our defense goals; "book whose author starts (first or last) with B", so I'll take care of that one.

I suggest we write here which books we start to read and if they fit a defense goal, and a new note when they are finished?

Margaret | 456 comments Hi Team *waves Hello to Silje* I'm Margaret and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. Really looking forward to this challenge!!

I have a book that meets the defense goal of "character's first name starts with a letter G" so I can take care of that one.

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments I think I will put up a shortcut to everyone's "Gladiator"-bookshelf, that way it is easier to keep a good overview of things.

Anita - Gladiator challenge
Silje - Gladiator challenge
Delta Stet- Gladiator
Kate - Gladiator
Alyssa - Gladiator challenge
Margaret - nbrc-gg
Shannon - Gladiator games
Nidhi - Gladiator challenge
Sunshine - Gladiator games

Here's the link to the countdown for Round 1:

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments I found a book that has a character with first name that starts on A, so I guess I can fix that one too if nobody else got something?=)

Alyssa (blyss20) | 19 comments Oh hi, team! ☺️

message 13: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments hey Alyssa, welcome!=)

message 14: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (blyss20) | 19 comments I'm a nurse from Yellowknife, Canada. I've never done a challenge before and I'm pretty new to Goodreads, but this all sounds really fun and I'm looking forward to getting some intense reading on!

Since all of the challenges are covered, do we just start ready any book we want? I brought one on my night shift with me, but I can put another one on my kindle if a challege needs to be taken care of. Otherwise, I'll start reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

message 15: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Yes, just start at any book you want=) When we get new defense goals later on it is possible to assign an already read book to it, as long as the book is started and finished within the timeframe.

Due to timezone differences I will most likely be asleep when the challenge starts in less than two hours, but I will update our team spreadsheet as fast as I can when I get up, if Anita doesn't beat me to it=)

message 16: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (blyss20) | 19 comments The challenge actually starts at 6pm on August 1st for me, but I guess according to the countdown clock that's ok. Less than two hours!! :)

message 17: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments not bad!=) for me it is at 2am august 2nd:P

Delta (sicname) Hello, everyone. I'm a technical writer from Dallas, Texas, USA. I love participating in challenges, although this one is much more complicated than I'm used to.

It looks like the games are just about to start. Looking forward to playing with everyone!

Anita Reads | 1677 comments Hi team.

I'm Anita and I'm from Denmark. I work as an Administrative Assistant, but hope to get a job in purchasing at some point as that is what I really enjoys.

I need to refresh on the rules, but as I can see I can read whatever I want right now as the main challenge goals are covered. Who are covering which goals, because the only one I can see in the thread is Silje? What about the B author and G Character?

message 22: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (blyss20) | 19 comments Silje said she has an author whose name starts with a B and a character whose name starts with an A, and Margaret said she has the G one covered, I believe.

message 23: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments OK. Great.

Margaret | 456 comments Anita wrote: "Who are covering which goals, because the only one I can see in the thread is Silje? What about the B author and G Character? "

Hi Anita, I have started reading a book that has a main character whose first name starts with a letter "G" so I have that one covered. Will let you know when I am done so we can get our defense point for it :)

message 25: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments Great. I'll just be working on other books to gain attack points then :)

message 26: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Hi Anita, welcome=) Yes, I have books for the two other defense goals. Have you gained access to edit the team spreadsheet yet?

message 27: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments A Taste of Temptation is finished, one of the maincharacters is named Ashton so that takes care of the defensive goal. I have still not gotten access to edit the team spreasheet, but will update it as soon as possible.

message 28: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments No. I have to write a message with my email. I'll go and do that now :)

I may have over looked it somewhere, but can books started before this challenge, but finished after challenge start be used for this challenge? If so I'm pretty close to finish one, but if not I'll get started on a new book soon enough.

message 29: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments No, only books that you have started during this challenge can count.

message 30: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments we have a new defensive goal: read a book with the main genre (listed on the first page on GR) as paranormal. Anyone got anything?=)

message 31: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) I just finished reading The Living Years: The First Genesis Memoir, 256 pages. It doesn't really fall into any current goal.

message 32: by Anita Reads (last edited Aug 02, 2015 02:54PM) (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I'm going to start on Dead as a Doornail which will work for Paranormal genre.

message 33: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Spreadsheet updated=) Delta, did you start reading the book after the challenge started? (just double checking:P)

message 34: by Silje (last edited Aug 02, 2015 03:11PM) (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments I'm halfway through One Night, Two Heirs and will start reading Inferno by Dan Brown, which works for the goal with the B=) It is also over 500pg in my edition, so it will give us extra in attackpoints-

message 35: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) Silje wrote: "Spreadsheet updated=) Delta, did you start reading the book after the challenge started? (just double checking:P)"

Yup, I started reading last night.

message 36: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments Hi group members, I am Nidhi, I am a solicitor from London, UK. I have added the link to my shelf as "Gladiator Challenge".

message 37: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments I will have a quick check of my books and inform you all about any book I have which falls in any of the challenge categories. :)

message 38: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments I am going to start reading the books
I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella by Sophie Kinsella and
When Beauty Tamed The Beast (Fairy Tales, #2) by Eloisa James byEloisa James

Shall we use them as attack?

They have 372 and 433 pages, respectively.

Hey Silje, I'm not sure how to link it but my shelf is: gladiator-games

message 41: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 456 comments Hi Team, I have finished reading Going Home by Danielle Steele which takes care of the defense goal for a character whose first name starts with "G" (Gillian Forrester). It was an okay read (2 stars). I needed to read it for another challenge so glad it worked here too :)

message 42: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shannonbaggins) | 83 comments It doesn't count towards one of the goals, but I just finished The Elite by Kiera Cass (336 pages)

message 43: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments I am currently reading Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and not completed yet! may be it would be used for attacking goals. I hope so! not so sure, as this is my first reading challenge.

message 44: by Emily (new)

Emily Hi all! I was away from my computer over the weekend, but I'm checking in! I'm listed as Boston Kate - I live just outside of Boston, MA in the US. I work as a medical technologist for a doctor's office.

I'm currently finishing up a few books started before the challenge, but I'll have some books read for the team shortly!

message 45: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) What are the rules for audio books? For other challenges using page numbers I use the first edition that pops up in the search.

message 46: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Nidhi, Shannon and Kate, nice to meet you!=)

I'll try to update the spreadsheet at least once a day, let me know if I forget a book or something. I list all the books you say you start to read and just add on finished date afterwards. Let me know if there's a book there that you don't started reading after all=)

Take care on which book edition you all add on the gladiator shelf, I have to use the pagecount from that book on the spreadsheet for it to be "correct". So make sure it is the same as the one you read, or at least one close to similar.

Nidhi, all books we read will count for attack, even though some also count as defense goals, so don't worry about that=)

I think I have the shelf-link for everyone now and the spreadsheet is updated.

If anyone has suggestions for a good read, feel free to share it. I guess all that's left to say is; Happy continued reading everyone!

message 47: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Shannon, what did you think about "the Elite"?=)

message 48: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments We have a new goal: Read a book with an average goodreads rating of between 3.01 and 3.99. Can we use any of the books we are already reading?

message 50: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1453 comments Delta said: What are the rules for audio books? For other challenges using page numbers I use the first edition that pops up in the search

This is what the moderators said:
"If you find an eBook publisher who gives you word count, we will use that; and for the purposes of this challenge we will divide the wordcount by 250 per page.

We are using this from techtips.salon.com "This gives a rough rule of thumb of one page in print equating to 2KB."

According to Audible (or ACX): "On average, most performers narrate about 9,300 words per hour." "

So I guess you have to multiply the hours with 9,300 and then divide that by 250. But your former method is probably good enough=)
