Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) So, this is where we will decide what books we're going to read as a group. Any suggestions to start us off?

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) SammyB wrote: "We could read Eragon."

what is that?

message 3: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) It's a fantasy book.
Here's it's description:
"One boy . . .

One dragon . . .

A world of adventure.

When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic, and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds.

Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands."

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) And you did a wonderful job. I just cheated.

message 7: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) lol

message 8: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) :) I could do fantasy. Haven't read one in a while.

message 9: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) I'm down for some real fantasy. let's see what everyone else has to say.

message 10: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Has anyone read Envy? It's like a murder mystery book. It's YA, and I've wanted to read it forever.

message 11: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) no but I hear it is pretty good.

message 12: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) I don't think I've ever read a YA murder mystery, at least not that I can remember.

message 13: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) true so I have to ask this question. what is your take on taboo stories?

message 14: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) I have no idea what that is, to be honest.

message 15: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) stories or books like..... or things that don't seem right like a grandmother in love with a grandchild or a sister and brother in love things like that.

message 16: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Oh, so incest. Umm... Never read anything like that... OH WAIT!!! I read Identical. In that a father "loves" his daughter. Also, in One Child by Torey L. Hayden, a true story, something like that happened. It was kinda weird, to be honest. I obviously have an opinion about it in real life, it's kinda gross. In books, I haven't encountered it too often, but books are for entertainment. If it's interesting, I'll read it.

message 17: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) A little bit of both I just real wanted to know what other peoples opinions on it. the only one I read that I really count is this one https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
it has a sad ending.

message 18: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Did you like it? It sounds very interesting.

message 19: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) I loved it. the book was very captivating I did not want to put it down it.

message 20: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Okay, let's get another okay and we can add it to the poll. We can have more than two if needed.

message 21: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) so we are going to vote on the next book?

message 22: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Yeah, we just need to know which books we're voting for. We have Eragon, Envy, and Forbidden so far. Any more suggestions by other members? Any books we defiantly don't want to read that are on this list? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

message 23: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) it's not made yet

message 24: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) your welcome . you can also still suggest books.

message 25: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Whatever you guys want. We can try to make it a monthly thing, just so we're more active.

message 26: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Okay, the poll is at the bottom of the homepage for voting. It ends August 2nd, so we can either read it in August or September, whichever you guys want.

message 27: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) let's do September .

message 28: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Okay. And the polls open now.

message 29: by Lamaya (new)

Lamaya booklit (bookitgirl) how many times can we vote?

message 30: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Yeah, once, or else we could all just keep voting for the same thing and "stack the ballots". Lol

message 31: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithsendlessloveofbooks) | 401 comments This book I'm reading is AMAZING!!!!!
It's called Swim That Rock, and it's one of those books so good you completely forget you are reading.
It's about a boy named Jake who's father went missing after a fishing accident. After the accident, him and his mom find out that they owe these dudes $10,000 dollars to save their diner- the only home they have. As he works for a man named 'Captain' that saved him by rowing a boat into the eye of a hurricane , and with his best friend and a girl he hopes to call his girlfriend, he tries to save the diner and find his father.

message 32: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Cool beans! And it takes place in Rhode Island. Can't find many of those.

message 34: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Hey, what book are we reading this month? I recommend An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

message 35: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithsendlessloveofbooks) | 401 comments I don't think we read a book this month.

message 36: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) We're reading one next month. We voted for Eragon

message 37: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Ahhh okay!

message 38: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Just a suggestion, but to start off with the group reading thing, I suggest we read something light and will interest members and get them active. I suggest we read 2 or 3 different books, each in a different genre. Each book should be light and easy to read. We could do a Fantasy, Contemporary, and Dystopian for September.

For fantasy, I'd vote City of Bones by Cassandra Clare , Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead , or Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

For contemporary, I suggest, All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven or Looking For Alaska by John Green.

For Dystopian, I suggest, Legend by Marie Lu, or The Selection by Kiera Cass.

message 39: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Yep, definitely!

message 40: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) Sounds good. So, if we start a series would we consider reading the whole series as a group or just the first and then everyone do what they will?

message 41: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments We could do like a book of the series every month. Or if we didn't like the first book in the series, we don't have to continue

message 42: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Sammy,

What's a dries?

Kelsey,

Haha, for me it depends on the book. A contemporary and I can read that in about 3 hours. A good fantasy/dystopian and I can read that in about 2 days. Bad books take me about a week. But I read City Of Heavenly Fire (it's about 800 pages) in one sitting.

message 43: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Hahaha, that's reading with a writers eye.

message 44: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithsendlessloveofbooks) | 401 comments =)!!

message 45: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Hahah yeah! I want to read a series :)

message 47: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithsendlessloveofbooks) | 401 comments You'll probably like Sweet Valley High, I'm so hooked!

message 48: by Kersten (new)

Kersten Mason (no_i_in_kersten) There's this book I've been seeing a lot of lately and I'm kind of interested now. It's called Every Day by David Levithan. I'm on my phone so I cant tag it for some reason...

message 49: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments I've heard of it, there's a sequel coming out soon (or has already came out).

message 50: by Azaria (new)

Azaria Gerardo (bookflix) | 137 comments Ahhh! Legend is amazing! I've read it. One of my favorite dystopians.
