"The Executioner’s Ax" by AJ Coonley is FREE Saturday and Sunday, August 15 & 16, 2015!

This short story is NOT part of the ‘Unforeseen Circumstances’ series of short horror stories. It is not even a horror story. Sadly, although it started out to be a horror story, by the time is was finished it was more of a romance. AJ apologizes in advance to all horror fans who download this, expecting a horror story. But it is FREE this Saturday and Sunday, August 15 & 16, 2015, so at least you won’t be out any money! Plus, there IS a ghost in it. (But if you know any Romance readers, tell them to check it out!)
“The Executioner’s Ax” is a tale about CJ Dupois, a young lady who enjoys – and is very good at – accurately throwing knives and axes at targets. She is also a classically trained fencer, but her favorite pastime is knife-throwing. It seems her great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was the Royal Executioner for King Louis the XVI of France, in the years leading up to the French Revolution. His official ax has been passed down through more than 200 years of his descendants. Now it’s CJ’s turn to care for it.
But there may be a problem. The will says the ax must always be in the care of a direct male descendant in the Dupois line. CJ is not a male. Will she run afoul of the alleged curse of the ax? As far as anyone knows, there is not another living male anywhere on Earth, who is directly descended from the Dupois line. So now what? Maybe the Executioner’s ghost can shed some light on CJ’s options.

Tut, tut my wickedly, dear friend and cohort, lest your memory drive you mad...lol
July 24th post:
Robert is right on the concept...We would just like to clean out the lurkers only! We don't expect our members to be here every day, but at least once in a while within the year...or why be here?
If you'll notice, it says 1 year with no comments. That would mean 365 days from September 4th 2015...Which is only 14 lurkers...Details my friend...details.
(Yes I'm poking the bear...lol)
If every one is in favor, Elvira and I would be happy to take it down to 6 months.

Night has fallen on the wicked town of Scaredy Cat. The rise of the moon has awakened Elvira and her Master with an insatiable hunger for blood.
KC now stands beneath the stars at the edge of the woods. Many lurkers can be seen peeking out from behind tree trunks and bushes in hopes of evading death. In a flash, KC is on the move. Elvira's razor sharp edge gleefully slices threw the closest lurker's neck. The last expression on her face is pure terror as her limp body falls to the left while her head slides from it to the right.
The night explodes with freakish screams from the dying lurkers. Some begin to run, but there is no use as KC launches Elvira into the air. With perfect precision, Elvira spills the blood of 10 more victims and returns like a bumarang.
Scaredy Cat's torches have now been lit by Kathy and Aileen . They light the fire beneath the large cooking pot in the town square and begin to dance around it in merriment to Roberts ceremonious song;
" They're eyes bob in, they're eyes bulge out, More heads will roll, there is no doubt. Month by month Elvira hums while cries of dread ebb out they're lungs..."
KC and Elvira stealthily glide through the mass of headless corpses and blood soaked earth slashing away at the flesh of those 35 who would dare be silent.
Elvira now gleams in the moonlight, dripping with liquid life as KC proclaims " Come now all freaks of Scaredy Cat and collect your feast!"

I've resurrected myself for the express purpose of haunting y'all. You'll be sorry you executed The Crypt Keeper.

OK, well if one of you mod type persons would give me back my "Crypt Keeper" nickname, I'll think seriously about haunting you a bit less than originally planned. ;)

While I firmly believe that we should keep our lovable executioner (KC) on the payroll, I don't believe that we should be utilizing her carving skills any time soon to delete members. I never liked that practice from the beginning and still don't. I do not believe inactivity should be necessarily and capital offense around here.
Just my thoughts...

Well my dear Eric...I only did it because I was asked to and so , although I have not posted a story to go with them, I have executed 200 lurkers in the last two weeks. They were a year out not 6 months because I know we all get busy so I thought that would be cruel.
we were at 700 or so when I started.

You know, we had a vote on this a while back and decided that there would be no more executions (see the poll in this area of the group).
So... Well... I dunno...
I'm not trying to take over control of Scaredy Cats. I'm just trying to do a little organizing/housecleaning (dead threads) and such.
I've run many public and private boards/forums on the Internet for the last 15 years and at none of them do we remove inactive members. There's just no need; particularly at a site like this where we are NOT paying for storage.
As I've said before, there is NO penalty in Goodreads TOS regarding inactivity. I say leave the dead alone. They may choose to come back some day... I did. :)

I'm sorry. No one told me we were voting or that we had voted on the matter. I'm fine either way.
Okay So I found the vote. It was done March 11th. I was asked to start executing in July.
So... Well...I dunno either!

The executions were instituted by Robert when he was still a mod. You've seen my recently conversation with him on the suggestions thread, I'm sure. I did not agree with the executions from the very beginning. Hell, I was a victim of one that cost me my proper membership initial date, so...
Maybe Aileen would like to chime in and make a command decision regarding this issue. In the meantime, since the poll shows that a strong majority are NOT in favor of continuing to delete inactive users, let's not.
Thanks. :)
Oh, and you'll always be my favorite executioner. You can still execute the troublemakers and trolls. Keep the ax sharp. ;)

By the way, something I didn't know (or any of us, probably)...

From the Goodreads HELP pages:
How do I re-add a group member that was previously removed?
Once you remove someone from a group, that person is automatically blocked from re-joining.
Here's how to take the user off your blocked list:
1. Go to your group page.
2. Click on "members" on the right side.
3. Click on "block/unblock users from joining" in grey at the bottom of the page.
4. Click "unblock user" for the appropriate person.
---
If you'll notice the bold text above, you'll see that for each time someone was removed from the group they've been added to a blocked list which forever blocks them from rejoining. This means we currently have HUNDREDS of previous members who are barred from rejoining simply because they were inactive.
This shows me more than ever that removing/deleting members of groups here at Goodreads is meant to be a punitive action. Inactivity does not warrant punishment/banishment in my opinion.
Thoughts, anyone?
I think we Mods should follow the instructions above and start removing these folks from the BLOCK list. It's going to take a while. I'll do a few every time I stop in. Since we don't know who was actually banned for misbehaving, I guess we should just unblock everyone. If we have trouble with any in the future, we can execute them again.

OK, I just unblocked about 100. Please, Mods... please help me make this right by unblocking a few folks each time you login. If we do this together, we should have them all unblocked in just a few days.
Thanks.

OK, there were 16 pages of 30 blocked members each when I started. Now we're down to 10 pages. That means I've unblocked about 300 poor souls who can now rejoin us here should they ever decide to do so again.
It takes one click of the mouse per blocked member to unblock them. My finger is getting tired, so any help from the Mods would be much appreciated.
Thanks...
