Well now it’s T-minus 74 days until the movie comes out.
Will you go?

Let’s talk about week three

During the Ares team family ops what did you think about Johanssen’s reveal?

What were your emotions during the t-minus recovery countdown?

Your take on the ending?

Fast forward 211 days
Do they all make it home?

Final thoughts

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 926 comments I liked the reveal about Johanssen, but I'm not sure it was necessarily a NASA thing. I also liked finding out about Lewis' '70's addiction.

I was just a little disappointed in how abruptly it ended. I'm assuming they all made it home OK. But the ending kind of left me saying "Aw sh*t, now what do I read?" It just seemed a tad abrupt. Kind of like listening to Queen's Tenement Funster where you're rocking along and then it just ends, no fade.

I definitely want to see the movie, just not sure when that will happen. I enjoyed reading it the second time just as much as the first.

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Yes I can't wait to see the movie, although i am worried about it being different to the book. Just a sneaky suspicion I have.

I really thought the ending a bit abrupt. I wanted all the hype of everyone getting home safely. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough during the rescue!!! I was surprised I enjoyed the book as much as i did. And even had some book hangover from it.

I agree with everyone about the abrupt ending. I was so into the book that I didn't even realize I was on the last page and then.....BOOM! It was over! Sort of like when I'm watching a movie, all glued to the screen. Then there's one final scene, the credits start rolling, and I'm like "Wow, that's it? It's over?"

Great thoughts Susan, and I agree w/Kamas I don't think this had anything to do w/NASA. I think the plan they dreamed up will let her be able to survive the real question I think is will she be able to do it.

And thanks for the thanks I love doing this for you guys :)

Ah Kamas, when I told a friend of mine I was reading the book he got it for himself and was done reading way before me bc he wasn't reading on any type of schedule. He also mentioned the ending felt abrupt and he would have liked more closure.

I happen to like the way it ended. I think we get enough closure for a definite ending but he's also left some room for a sequel.

Thanks Ang, Yes I'm curious like you to see how well the movie script follows the book. I did mention earlier in another thread that if I'm not mistaken it looks like in the trailer he might be married and a father.

Well I knew I was getting to the end bc I have an actual paper book but I can see how if you were reading an ecopy you'd find the ending abrupt.

Yeah I just looked at the trailer again and it looks like near the end Mark is looking at a video of a woman and a boy. So very interesting!

Well I think after he gets back to Earth, he starts going out with Mindy Park!!!!

I guess that's what I see eventually happening anyway.

April (april_h) | 159 comments I was shocked when Johanssen told her father there was a plan in place that left her as the sole survivor. I couldn't imagine what that would have been like for her to know ahead of time.

The countdown was a nailbiter. I honestly wasn't sure Mark was going to be rescued until he was aboard Hermes.

The ending was so abrupt, it left me wanting more. I was overjoyed that Mark was back with his crew, but I wanted to see them all land safely back on Earth.

I can't imagine the crew not making it back. After all they've been through, especially Mark, they have to return home safely. They all deserve a happy ending.

I was really invested in this story and the characters. What a great book!

Thanks April, I agree about the countdown and then when the canvas started flapping I was really nervous. Yikes!
