^^^^^ I can't wait!

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Rinji! I'm sorry this has taken so long, but yay! I finally got My Life Next Door. So whenever you're ready we can slowly buddy read this?

message 5: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments have a copy. will start reading it when I wake up tomorrow.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Awesome :) I'm starting mine tomorrow~

message 7: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments So the first two chapters are interesting. I am not sure if I liked how it started.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Oh? I meant to start yesterday but crashed out exhausted. I'm going to try it a little later once I do some work.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
50 pages in! Don't know if I like Samantha yet....and the beginning did feel a bit weird (but maybe I just haven't read many contrmporaries lately!)

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
**contemporaries

message 11: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yeah I can understand that. I have been so busy the last few days that I have not read any more. will be reading some more tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I really want to sit down and read this in one shot, but I probably won't be able for a couple of days. Got work to do. I actually don't mind Samantha's voice, this is the first time I've read Fitzpatrick's work, but I don't dislike it ^^.

message 13: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Been reading this book a lot the last few days and have grown to like it. I have grown to like Samantha as well and I like Jase as well. I can't wait to see how her mother reacts to Samantha dating Jase.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I'm still only 100 pages in~how far are you?

message 15: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments don't know. I am reading it on my kindle. I just started chapter 44. I am not happy with Samantha's mother or Clay.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I'm nowhere near that far ^^"
I can't seem to catch much of a break this week.
What's she and Clay done?!

message 17: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments on the way home from an event while drunk the mother hit Jase's his father with her car and left the scene. The mother and Clay pretend as if nothing happened and Samantha keeps it from Jase and his family not really sure what to do. Samantha was asleep in the back seat when it happened.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
O.O that's atrocious!!! I can't believe she did that! (Actually I can, since she's a politician, and they're....yeah....) Sam should tell Jase! (Though right now, she's keeping alot of secrets...

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Okay more than halfway through now, and I'm thinking by the end of this book, Sam's mum will realise what a dick Clay is, and also, will find out that she doesn't perhaps like her own way of doing things? I haven't reached the part where Jase's father's been hit yet, but I reckon that's soon. I mean Sam's mum has just met Jase and it wasn't the best of meetings ^^'

message 20: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yeah it is soon after that that the accident happens. I have actually just finished the book. And yeah it is as you predicted. I like it though because Samantha's mom becomes more accepting of Jase and his family in the end. Really good book.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
O.O no kidding, really?! And yeah, I can imagine she'd soften up to Jase's family once she got rid of Clay and came clean (Idk if she does come clean) about everything, admitting to herself that she really hated what she was becoming. Does she stay senator though? At the end? (I'm still not done yet, but I will be soon!)

Apparently there's a sequel! Well actually it's a companion novel! Featuring Tim and Alice-->https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (I didn't really think of that until Sam pointed it out ^^)

message 22: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yes she comes clean after Sam tells Jase. She tells Jase's mother about what happened and the family decides not to press charges and Sam's mother pays all of the medical bills. She resigns as Senator coming to the decision that if she can't do the right thing without worrying about her career she does not think she can do it for the state.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Oh good for Sam's mother! She did the right thing in the end {sadly still not finished} and Jase and Sam date happily ever after~ (Well until/if they ever break up lol...)

message 24: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yeah pretty much. He even keeps the car.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
:p that car was pretty awesome from the description (can't visualise it well though since I don't know my cars!)

message 26: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Do you remember what kind of car he picked. I know it was a '73 but can't remember the brand. was it a mustang?

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Ummm crap I just finished this today! I think it's a mustang. It seems like the kind of car that would be a hit.

I did like this in the end. Well I didn't hate it at the start, but I thought it was a bit slow to begin with. The ending really was as I had expected it. I liked how he executed the ending, loved the dynamic of the Garett family!

message 28: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I agree with you. It was a great book and a good ending. I loved the dynamic of the Garett family as well. I am glad you suggested we read this book together.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
:))) it's been on my tbr list for a long time so no worries! I've been meaning to read it and I'm glad you liked it!

Sam + Jase are great as a couple but oddly, Tim was my favourite character haha. And Nan!!! That was horrible of her!!! I didn't expect that at all!

message 30: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I kind of did expect something from Nan but I did not expect her to end the friendship like that. I wanted to cry for Sam after Nan ended the friendship over something so trivial as Sam talking to her about her cheating when she promised not to say anything about it to anyone as well.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I wanted to yell at Nan. I felt that part was kind of underdeveloped, Fitzpatrick just had them argue and then end it :/. I wondet if there'll be more of them in the companion novel. like I wonder if they'd be friends again....or at least have one final talk? or idk I was just dissatisfied with that ending of their friendship! they'd been friends so long!

message 32: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I know and agree. It was sad and a part of me wanted to strangle Nan for it too. I actually yelled at the book and my friend looked at me with confusion.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Haha nice one! I felt sorry for Sam, it's not her fault. And just when she needed Nan the most! (Hence why I like Tim a lot! He did develop a bit even if I really really don't approve of his drug habits.)

message 34: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yeah, I really liked Tim after he got off the drugs and alcohol. It was nice that after the time spent apart between Sam and Tim they were able to develop their friendship again even after Nan and Sam had the fight and their friendship ended.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Indeed. I actually also, really liked the relationship that Fitzpatrick drew around Tim and Nan. It was pretty complex, and there were quite a lot of emotions involved. I really did like the dynamic there.

message 36: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments So did I. It was well developed and put together. I liked to see the complex interactions between Tim and Nan.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Yep ^^ I liked it quite a bit. I would give more of Fitzpatrick's works a try--they remindme of Sarah Dessen's work.

message 38: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I would definitely read more of Fitzpatrick's works. I really enjoyed the book as well. I have not heard of Sarah Dessen though.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
^^ Want to do another buddy read with me then? For another Fitzpatrick book?

O.O!!! I love Sarah Dessen! She was the first YA contemporary novelist I read when I was younger and I've been a fan ever since!

If you think about giving her a try, try these books first--> The Truth About Forever, Just Listen, This Lullaby, and Saint Anything
And if you like those, then you should definitely give the rest of her books a try!

message 40: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Sure we can give another book a try. Just let me know... I don't know what I want to read though...

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Okay!

SO Huntley Fitzpatrick has two other books we can do a buddy read for:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (What I thought was true)

OR

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (The Boy Most Likely To)

As for the Dessen books, those are just recommendations ^^ for another time if you ever wanted to give them a try!

message 42: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I really want to read The Boy Most Likely To. I want Tim's and Alice's story. Does that sound good to you?

I figured. I will look at them and maybe pick them up. I will let you know when I do read one of them and also let you know what I think of them.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Okay awesome! I'll go put it on hold and let you know when it comes in okay? :) And I'll put up a new buddy read thread a little later.

^^ double awesome! I'd be curious to know what you think ^^

message 44: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Okay. :D I will find it and wait for you to get a hold of it.
