Hi everyone, I'm here at last. I've been frantically putting together a Mardi Gras/steampunk costume for my library's open house tomorrow. I think it's all sorted out now. Oy.For some reason, I can't get '5 Shades of Gray' out of my twisted mind as a name for the group! :D Or 5th Wheels, 5 Alive, Take 5, and so on.

I cannot abide with anything with "shades of gray". LOL, I am shuddering.
I am currently boycotting all books with a sticker that says "if you liked FSoG, you will love...". Any book that has to use FSoG to garner attention, i won't read it.

I haven't read the series either. It's like Twilight or Harry Potter - it's too popular to appeal to me, LOL.
Do we need to vote on a group leader? I can't fill that position - my job's too crazy right now and I probably couldn't post things as immediately as is required.

Yes, I will roll tonight at midnight. With a newborn, are you sure you can read a book every 3 days? This one is a 2 book a week competition.
Not just that, are you going to be able to check in to the thread on a regular basis? I only ask because I know what it's like with a newborn.
Please make sure this is a commitment you are confident in making.

i couldn't check in earlier b/c i was in the hospital. now that i am home - i dont see a problem on checking. i actually have a little more time b/c i am home and don't have to go to my job for 8 hrs. where i couldn't read anyway. but it is up to you if you feel i will hold you back - i will drop out. i was only doing this for fun anyway b/c i love to read.

Everyone, please check thread at least once a day. Hopefully we will get notifications but we can give updates like I started my book and I'm 15% in and hate it etc.
We can support each other or even recommend books. If something comes up, let's us know.
Other than that, I'm kind of ready to start clearing my TBR shelves. Last round I challenged myself to not use alternates but to pick the higher numbers in a series I've already started.
Part of that is how Pat and I came up with Finish What You Started challenge :D

Review:
This was third book from the series and it was decent like the firs two. The series isn't one my favorites as there's not much romance in it but it's still good enough to continue with it.
Rev It Up was packed with action and hero's attempts at winning back the woman he once pushed away from him. I liked the hero and his flip flops (that was funny as hell as these military guys usually don't wear them) but really disliked Michelle (view spoiler)

Review:
I've been reading this series randomly for 15 years. It really doesn't matter where you start, the Sharon McCone stories are pretty much timeless and you don't need to read the books in order to enjoy them.
In this installment, Sharon is called upon to unravel the mystery of her friend Jake's murder. Jake, who transformed San Francisco Victorian houses into the archetypal "Painted Ladies" is found dead in a pool of clumsily spilled red paint - a clear indication to Sharon that this is a staged scene. She's hired to investigate the murder by David Wintringham, son of a local millionaire and owner of the house where the crime took place. As usual, there's plenty of hostility, violence.
Wintringham is trying to renovate the neighborhood, a move that is forcing out the working class African-American population. Local merchants and a former, embittered councilman with a thug enforcer are openly hostile to his efforts. He's also facing opposition from the local historical preservation organization, as well as dealing with his sleazy, former-rock-producer partner, an emotionally fragile boyfriend and the high costs of running his renovation business.
To make things even more confusing, there's the matter of a valuable missing Tiffany lamp, in the shape of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. It had disappeared, only to reappear in a dumpster with several fakes. Sharon manages to retrieve it, but not without running afoul of the local ex-councilman. Her investigation is further complicated by the fact that Wintringham's partner appears to be conducting his own 'investigation' into the lamp's disappearance, just a few irritating steps ahead of her.
I didn't quite guess who-dun-it toward the end, which is my standard for a good mystery. If there is a down side to the early books, it's Sharon's relationship with her homicide detective boyfriend, Greg. He's a bit of a misogynist and a jerk. Not a character that I could believe Sharon would give the time of day let alone date.
