SOLVED. Sci-fi book with kid who goes to school or house or [s]

I read this book in school 6 years ago and do not. Remember the author or title. I believe the main character was a boy - teen I think. I think he either is taken to another dimension or some school or house. There were other kids there I think. I recall they were there willingly usually to be away from parents or something. It was sort of dark, though, and it think when he wanted to leave the people there wouldn't let him. I feel like some old lady turned into a bat or had wings or something and turned out to be evil. I think when he got home his parents weren't there or didn't remember him or something.

Does anyone know what this book could be?
