Jessica No, not yet I'll proably wait till its out in redbox.

message 52: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I'll probably end up getting it on dvd for my birthday or something.

message 53: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Oh. Have you ever seen pitch perfect?

message 54: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I haven't watched it yet either! I read about halfway through the book but then I had to return it to the library.

message 55: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I wish I've seen Pitch Perfect! It looks hilarious!

message 56: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I watched Pitch Perfect last year, and it was really funny.

message 57: by Jessica (new)

Jessica It is. The one that plays fat amy is hilarous. And I even heard that their making a second part.

message 58: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments Yeah I saw that. I'll definitely watch it.

message 59: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Have you ever read a series that freaked you out, so you stopped reading them?

message 60: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I wish I could see it, but I'm not really allowed to.

message 61: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments Yeah- the Goddess Test series. I just didn't like the author's concept of the afterlife.

message 62: by Jessica (new)

Jessica How come ?

message 63: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I was reading the house of night series, and I was kinda far into the books. But then she started mentioning this demon and stuff. Freaked me out and stopped reading them.

message 64: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments Well, she talked about how people's beliefs translate into what their afterlife would be like- and that kind of freaked me out. That series doesn't sound very good-the one that you were talking about.

message 65: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I've come close to doing that but by the time I've gotten freaked out I'm usually near the end of the series anyway, and I'm optimistic that it will get better.

message 66: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments That's a nice way to look at it, but I'm more likely to just put the book down and try to forget about it.

message 67: by Jessica (new)

Jessica It was in the begginig but then the main character started getting annoying.

message 68: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments Oh, okay.

message 69: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I hate it when a book series is good and just plain fun and then one or two books in it's BOOM: apocalypse or something else equally melodramatic.

message 70: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I feel like that was what happened with the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth. I really enjoyed the first 3/4 or so of the first book, reading about initiation and all. But I thought the whole "war between the factions" thing was poorly executed. I would have much rather read more about Tris' life in Dauntless. Even that would have been really interesting.

message 71: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I hated the ending of the divergent series.

message 72: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments Oh, I know! I thought it was just for shock value, just to throw an unnecessary twist into the series. How about you?

message 73: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I haven't read the last one yet but people have half-spoiled it for me. I feel like that happened with the Maximum Ride books too. In the first one, it was about kids just trying to survive and protect each other, but then they were sort of celebrities and they had to save the world from global warming and now they're the superior race... it was sort of annoying cause the original idea was awesome.

message 74: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I think that authors who are successful in a short amount of time want to cash in, and so they do hasty things with the plot.

message 75: by Jessica (new)

Jessica For some reason in maximum ride books I didn't like angel at all. Even though she was just a little girl.

message 76: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I understand that you want to surprise your reader but can you at least not kill your reader's dreams- or your characters?

message 77: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments Exactly!

message 78: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (Elmira001) Why can't they kill their characters? Just because it's not a happy ending? I haven't read the maximum ride seriesor whatever, but the end of the divergent serieswas amazing!

message 79: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I have absolutely nothing wrong with authors killing their characters. The characters are theirs, after all. However, when it comes to the ending of Allegiant I felt that there was no real reason for Tris to die. I feel that this was placed there for shock value. There are lots of different opinions on that and we can all feel differently.

message 80: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (Elmira001) I think if tris hadn't done that, she wouldn't have been tris

message 81: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I respect your opinion but do not share it. What was your favorite book in the series?

message 82: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (Elmira001) I love them all, but think the last one was best. I just know I'm going to be crying in the theater when I see divergent and the zipline scene comes up. I'm not happy that Uriah isn't in the first movie.

message 83: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I think I liked the first one best. To me, it just had so much originality and plain fun.

message 84: by Amanda (last edited Feb 19, 2014 10:25AM) (new)

Amanda (Elmira001) I liked the first one. It was what got me hooked and why I waited for the next two books to come out. Lol, I would have forgotten all about them if it hadn't been good. I really liked that there was never a love triangle, it was always her and tobias

message 85: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I agree! I hate love triangles. Well, I don't hate them, I'm just sick of them.

message 86: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 7 comments I'm so sick of love triangles. No matter if books do them or TV shows or even movies. They annoy me so much especially since it tends to ruin characters, also its mostly never done right.

message 87: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments Yeah I agree totally. I feel like love triangles are just thrown in to books cause they are somewhat trendy. But characters keep talking about how in love they are, then they're like oh wait now I like him too. It's rare that one is written well. One love triangle I do believe was done well however was The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare. I liked both of the love interests and either way the main character's choice would have made her happy, which in my opinion how a love triangle should be written.

message 88: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I didn't understand the love triangle in Matched by Ally Condie. It wasn't even a love triangle!

message 89: by Tinka (new)

Tinka | 7 comments Love triangles nowadays seem to be thrown in because a lot of authors sadly seem to be unable to write interesting conflicts in relationships. Sadly the love triangle mostly backfires.

I didn't even read Matched because on the Cover was something like ' greatest love triangle of all time' written and that turned me off.

message 90: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments Lol it wasn't. Even. A love triangle. The main character fell in love with Ky even though she was Matched with Xander, her best friend. She didn't even love Xander. She was in love with Ky the WHOLE time. I'm not even biased like her and Xander only kissed once in the first book while she was falling in love with Ky! Ugh I hate love triangles!

message 91: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I think Xander was supposed to be the boy next door that's everything she's ever known, while Ky is the mysterious boy that will lead to rebellion. I don't think the way the love triangle was fair to Xander, and I personally didn't like how Cassia handled it.

message 92: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I just thought the love triangle was non existent. It was set up to be quite exciting but Cassia fell so hard for Ky that she kind of shoved Xander aside. Personally, I liked Xander better. He doesn't recite as much poetry.

message 93: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments Cassia made up her mind in the first book. Xander just wouldn't get over her, so it sorta made cassia think "what if". But yeah it wasn't a love triangle. I think Xander deserved better than cassia, and in the last book I did like him better, although I liked ky better in the first two.

message 94: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I don't know Ky is alright but I'm kind of sick of the angsty, rebellious male hero. I like the boy-next-door types myself. So I guess it's a matter of opinion. I didn't like who Xander ends up with. I thought he deserved better.

message 95: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I agree about Xander, he did deserve better. As for Ky, the reason I liked him better is because he cared more about the world around him. But then as we learn more about Xander we find out that he does too, and he really cares about people. Xander's character developed more than Ky's, in my opinion anyways.

message 96: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments Yes! I completely agree! I loved the first Matched novel- but the rest were awful in my opinion. Too confusing and complicated and poorly written and just poetry....

message 97: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (Elmira001) When I read those, I liked Ky, but then I liked Xander more. Love triangles just don't add to books unless they are done well. They actually sometimes take away from any romance there might have been.

message 98: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments I think the poetry was included because cassia was trying to bring back culture and creativity. So while it was a little bit annoying that so much was included that wasn't her own work, there was some reasoning to it being included.

message 99: by Theemmaolsen (new)

Theemmaolsen | 75 comments I agree with that. But what about, you know, music? Or books?

message 100: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 227 comments Yeah. I just guess it was what the author, and so the character also enjoyed the most, and was probably just the easiest to include. Poetry isn't my personal favorite, but there is purpose so I guess it's just a matter of opinions.
