I met him last year for the A Memory of Light tour. I would like to get him to sign my copies of The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance but I might just wait for the next tour he comes closer to home.
March...by then you should be able to Metro right down to the mall...so maybe it won't be so bad.

I'm assuming Tyson's corner is going to be on the new silver line then? That's good to know.
Either way, It's less about traffic concerns for me as it is about how far away it is from my house. Even in no traffic it's going to be at least an hour each way, plus however long I'd have to wait in line to meet him (at the last one they handed out numbers the day before so I waited like 2 hours in that line, then a few more hours the day of).
Depending on when I left to get there, it might actually be easier for me to just drive than take the metro because the closest station to my house is like 20 minutes away.
I'd probably just have to take off Friday or go in really late.

As far as wait times/logistics, I'm not really sure what to expect. The signing was a Monday night at 7pm.
The store here only really told people who bought A Memory of Light from them about the pre-event ticket thing on Sunday afternoon.
Luckily someone on here posted about it and I called the store to confirm. I waited a few hours the day before mostly because I wanted to get a lower number. I ended up with number 33.
I talked to a few people who just showed up after they worked through the line and got a number right away. I forget exactly what their numbers were. I'd guess there were maybe 50 or 60 people waiting in the line by the time they started handing them out though. Once they did that line was really quick.
On the day of they were giving out numbers as you came in the store. People who didn't come the day before or several hours early ended up getting somewhere in the 100's I believe.
On the day of signing, part of the waiting was simply because he talked a little and did a reading (well in our case the audio book readers Kate Reading and Michael Kramer were there since they live in MD apparently) and then they lined us all up by our numbers. Since the same readers do Way of Kings, it's possible they might be there, but it was announced ahead of time for Memory of Light.
He was signing up to 3 books and so was Mr. Jordan's widow. They had people from books a million who would take your phone/camera to shoot pictures of you while you were talking to them, which helped move the line since he didn't have to stop to pose for pictures in addition to signing.
Originally they were going to let you get personalized messages, but there were so many people he said he was only going to sign his name until he got through the entire line. I know he's always really good about staying until he sees everyone who comes.
I'd guess between both days I was there for maybe 5 hours? Possibly less. I don't remember exactly when I got there on Sunday afternoon. They did move the line pretty quickly, and I really liked the number thing rather than a free for all.
Of course I was fortunate enough to have a pretty low number.
It's also possible that the Memory of Light signing was more popular than this one will be since that series had a huge following long before anyone had heard of Brandon Sanderson.
No idea if Barnes and Noble will do any of same things. This was a Books-a-Million. They had a bunch of volunteers that came from the internet site Dragonmount I believe running stuff, so it may have come from them rather than the store.
My biggest suggestion to anyone wanting to go to one of these is to call the store about it, and maybe buy your copy of the book from them as it may help you get inside info.

Yeah. He tours a lot. He generally rotates up the locations he visits with each tour, except the local ones in Utah.
Any other Bay Areans going to the Borderland Books signing?
I'm going to try, though for one reason or another it may just not be possible

The tour starts on March 4th with a midnight signing in Provo, UT and concludes on the 22nd of March in Milwaukee, WI. On a side note, there's a stop at the B&N in Tyson's Corner just outside of DC in northern VA...if anybody is interested in a meetup, I'd potentially be game!
