Seem to remember a boy moving into a caravan in a really unkempt plot of land in a caravan site maybe under a huge tree that's actually a god or something, remember the name ellewen or something like that and in the caravan the woman there folds napkins or something and she makes him wear at shirt with the company logo on to school but he wears it inside out so no one can see, they have to fix a gateway or something that opens into the bottom of a lake but an evil guy tries to stop them doing it. You can also get into this other world by stepping into a certain place at the corner of a street or a certain paving slab, might be another book but the boy ends up in a red sports car with a girl and he makes ice across the sea so they can drive across it. Sorry for the vagueness it's been plaguing me for aaaages.

Do you remember what year you read this book?
Also, it would be helpful if you put a few key things about the book in the title like "Caravan, gateways to other world, ice across sea" instead "Help...". That will get more people's attention, who might know what book you're talking about.

There is a detail like that in Outside -- pretty sure that's NOT the book you're looking for, but maybe you read it also. They had to step on squares in the right order, and there might have been a song that explained it. It was a middle grade type level, I think. What age was your book aimed at?

Tia, do you remember any other characters in the book? Sidekicks, friends, family?

Any other fantasy elements like witches, devils, etc?

Anything about the cover?

Think it was teen. I'm pretty sure there was a sprite/pixie type creature that helped the boy understand about magic and stuff. I think the boy and girl ran away from the town where the caravan site was and ended up fighting creatures that were trying to stop them getting to the portal?

Are you sure all the details are from one book? A lot of them sound like Terry Brooks' Running With The Demon.
