Thanks for the update, Erin! I'm picking books now so I can fit in 5 in one week. I actually read 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday last weekend, so I think 5 in a week is doable.

Theresa, I'll pretty much read anything (even if they aren't favourites), so just put me where you need me! I know there are some great gopherers if I need recommendations.
And if anyone is struggling with YA, I can recommend some great YA titles that don't read like YA ;)

Ghosts of Belfast - I don't see any cultural aspect, more action/adventure or suspense/thriller.

Kat wanted to max hers out to 5 and I had a tough time trying to plan hers and mine plus trying to cover all bases. Your Action/Adventure means we have at least one player on each space.

I have a copy of Joyland I think I can finish that week, in addition to the two I am down for. Looking at the book's Goodreads page, it looks as though it could count either as horror or as a thriller. We have empty slots for both, and I am not conflicted out of either one (my other two are science and romance). What do you think? If I counted Joyland as Suspense/Thriller, that would leave open the possibility that I could read something Steampunk if I have time for a fourth book. If I count Joyland as Horror, the only thing left I could do would be historical fiction.
Casceil, it would be great if you counted Joyland as a Suspense/Thriller, since that would fill another corner. You're right about Steampunk, too.

I will probably read an Agatha Christie mystery on the weekend (and they are fast reads), so I might have time for another book during the week. I am getting Dear Life: Stories from the library till the end of Feb, so I could do Short Stories. But I am not sure if I can, since I am in that column for Mystery already (but my Mystery counts towards the row, not the column).Otherwise I could do Contemporary or YA with The Fault in Our Stars.
I've been assuming that whatever you read blocks out anything that could be made into a row. E.g., I am reading science, and I assume that means I can't read mystery. But my science book counts for the horizontal row. If I could read mystery and have it count for the diagonal row, that would be really nice. It seems unlikely that this is allowed, but maybe we should ask for a clarification.

Each book read counts for only one string, which is why we need 3 on each corner to do all the possible strings.
On the positive side, you can read either Contemporary or YA, so make your choice and we can have Erin add that to the chart.

I stopped myself at The Lover's Dictionary, which is both YA and Contemporary. So put me down for the one that we need more.
Kirila, I'm plugging you in for YA for The Lover's Dictionary. If we end up needing Contemporary more later on, we can always move it.
I've made my book selections, either owned or borrowed from the library. I have these all in audiobooks, and all but The Doll: The Lost Short Stories in Kindle as well. I believe all of these are appropriate for the listed genres.Chick Lit - The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

Mariab, I'm glad you volunteered for Chick Lit, but the rules say that if you do one corner, you cannot do any other string that includes that space, including vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. The way it works out, you can only do one corner, and you already have Culture. You'll see it better when Erin's chart is posted.
