I am looking for a book I read in the 1990s. I was in 5th/6th grade and the book made an imprssion on me but for the life if me I can't remember the title. The book had a very plain cover if I recall correctly. The stories start out in present day where the body of a young woman from ancient times is found preserved in a log. The story then explains the story of the girl and how she died. I can recall the following bits and peices: the girl's tribe was tree huggers :), the love interest was from another tribe, a slave child knew about the romance and removed a relic/stone from special pool, in the end the main character drunk posion to make things right. I think the body's bones dissolved leaving behind skin but not sure this was a long time ago and I was a kid. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Laurie thank you a million. I looked up The Faraway Lurs plot summary and this is the book I have been looking for for years. I remember it made an impression on me as a child and wanted to read it again as an adult. Thank you again.
