Hi,
This book doesn't seem to exist in the real world:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/edit/1...
The title can't be found via Google or Worldcat. The record contains no ISBN. The title is a mashup of two actual works by John le Carre, so it's difficult to know which edition to combine with. (The other works are "A Murder of Quality" and "Our Kind of Traitor".)
This book has unfortunately been shelved a number of times. What's the best way to fix the problem?
Thanks,
David

David, please link to a book's show page, not its edit page.
I suggest messaging the user who added the book (look at the logs) and asking what book it is meant to be.

Thanks, Rivka. The Librarian Change Log shows one update, though nothing explicitly labeled creation. Is this the user to contact?

That is not the person who created the book record. The person who created the book record is listed as the source of the title.

Hi again,
The details for this book don't seem to show a user near the creation date. Is there another place to look? The word 'source' doesn't occur on this details page.
Thanks for your patience,
David

The person who created the book record is listed as the source of the title on the log page, near the bottom.
The creation of a book record is never logged as an edit.

Here's Gareth's story pdf, separate from the mag:
http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/...
That is a PDF of a page from the magazine. That is quite clear from the PDF itself.
That is hardly a separate publication.

Got it! The user Bibliophile is marked as having private profile data. How should they be contacted?

Thanks - sorry for the oversight. I've sent a quick message to the user for clarification.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1......"
Covers are definitely identical on zoom in. EITHER the "Fourth Del Ray" bit is irrelevant or it needs to have a different cover. My inclination would be merge and then if there is an ACE, the reader will find it if they care (if they've added the wrong one initially then I doubt they care!).

I did separate both editions again.
please delete https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

duplicate of
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... (which has correct ISBN, book description, etc.)

then combine with

since it's the duplicate of this:

thanks.

One more round of comments, please. I got a PM back from the librarian who made the other edition, and he says that it's just another printing. Do we make editions for reprints if the cover and content haven't changed?
Z-squared wrote: "Do we make editions for reprints if the cover and content haven't changed?"
No, only if there has been a change (cover, number of pages, etc.)
No, only if there has been a change (cover, number of pages, etc.)

The first link has an isbn and isbn13 that exist NO WHERE ELSE ON THE INTERNET but Goodreads. It also fails the check system explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internat....
The second link I am sure is correct because I have the alternate cover edition of it in my library. Its isbn is the same as the above with the 3rd and 4th digits switched, and all other information is the same (pages, publisher, etc.)
This fact, the lack of capitalization of the publisher, the lack of the complete publishing company's name, and the lack of a cover in the first link makes me think that this book was added by a user that mixed up the isbn and didn't think to double check when the book didn't turn up.

please merge: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio... (delete is obvious)
please recombine with: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
Thanks

Thank you!
