Turtlecollector Dennis For those of you copying previous posts, it is actually week 5. I read the large print version so the page numbers are from that edition.

Week 5: Tree/Bone

Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam Trilogy, #1) by Margaret Atwood by Margaret Atwood
MaddAddam Trilogy #1
read 2/23/13 - 3 stars

This was a very odd book. At times it reminded me of 1984, Animal Farm or Brave New World. Sometimes going between past and present was a little confusing and there was a little twist at the end I was not expecting.

Items claimed:

Englishman pg 117 "Shakespeare, complete works."

rat pg 72 "...an unfortunate blend of snake and rat."

dream pg 60 "...slides off into half-sleep and dreams of Oryx..."

tree pg 4 "....he makes his way down from the tree."

bone pg 7 "...ground-up coral and broken bones..."

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I am changing my book to Winterblaze (Darkest London, #3) by Kristen Callihan
It has all the words I planned to claim.

Melissa, great job on finishing Hunting Ground! Looking forward to talking to you about it.

TC - Margaret Atwood has some strange books!

Angie, that one looks really interesting and I love the cover!

message 303: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Angie - I'll have to keep that book in mind for the elusive girl in red as I'm pretty sure I've owned it in ebook format for a while and have never read.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Week 5: Tree
Bonus Word: Bone
Winterblaze (Darkest London, #3) by Kristen Callihan
2/23/14 4.5 ★
Review:Loved this story of Poppy and Winston. They have been married for fourteen years and are now separated because he has discovered the truth about her and her involvement in the SOS. The story is told in the present day and in a series of flashbacks that let us in on their courtship and how it all went wrong. Their passion for each other however, flies off the page and hits one squarely in the chest. They are both such intriguing people, and their struggles to make their relationship work amidst fighting supernatural creatures make for a fantastic story.

Tree: p. 35 beneath the canopy of a willow tree
Bone: p. 113 her bones hummed
Englishman: p. 154 He was an Englishman, for god's sake
Story: p. 216 you promised me a story
Monster: p. 269 he appeared the monster in the room

Jennifer H How was everyone's weekend?

Mine was nice and uneventful. I got the Mortal Instruments movie yesterday but haven't watched it yet.

Turtlecollector Dennis I still have one day left of my weekend. I have Sun/Mon off. No more Olympics for me to watch though :(

message 307: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Hi ladies - was great to get home (even though our flight was delayed and we didn't reach our beds until 12:30am Sun morning) but awful to get up for work this morning, lol

Woke up my daughter for school before leaving for work to hear: "Why....I'm still tired...." spoken like Momma's girl :)

message 308: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Welcome home, Melissa! I was always such a sucker and let my kids have a day of "rest"!

Jennifer, I enjoyed the movie even though there were some glaring differences from the book (which I also enjoyed).

TC - I caught up on missed Olympic events this weekend on On Demand. It was great! And I watched Downton Abbey tonight after work since I missed it last night.

message 309: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Jennifer - we really enjoyed that movie as well. Hope youliked it. It's funny how it always annoys my son that "they change things from the book, Mom". I'm sure I'm going to hear that after we go to see Divergent next month, lol

TC- we watched most of the US hockey while on our vacation.

message 310: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I watched the movie last night. It was pretty good. The special effects were great. I have to say I liked it just as much as I liked the book.

message 314: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) So glad he's doing better, Dusty. Make up homework is the worst!

Was a good book, not what I was expecting it to be. Had a hard time sitting still this week to read it, but finally made it. This was the second book, think I need to read the first to explain who some people are an how they meet.

message 317: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Hey Dusty - glad things are getting back to "normal" for you (really what is normal on any given day, lol). I have to agree with Leslie - make-up homework is the worst!!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Week 6: Wolf
Bonus: Paper
My Lady Quicksilver (London Steampunk, #3) by Bec McMaster
3/1/14 5★
Review:Number three in the series and it is by far my favorite. Loved this story. The world that Bec McMaster has created is so interesting and different. In this story we have a continuation from book 2 but it focuses on Mercury who is the leader of the rebellious humans and Lynch who is head of the Nighthawks and charged with finding her and bringing her to justice or being executed if he fails. Lynch and Rosaling (otherwise known as Mercury) are amazing together and the action is non-stop. The intensity never lets up and never lets go.

Wolf: p. 95 she was tempting the wolf
Paper: p. 36 a sheaf of papers
Thief: p. 242 I was a thief
Girl in red: p. 215 her blood red skirts
Lamp: p.47 gas lamps flickering

message 331: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Awesome, Leslie!

message 332: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Way to go Leslie!!

I'm about 30% into Whisper No Lies (Black Ops, #3) by Cindy Gerard and 40% into Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter, #6) by Nalini Singh

message 333: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Thanks, guys! Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. And I'm struggling with a cold, so I just hung around the house reading today.

message 334: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Leslie - hope you feel better. This weather is perfect for colds.

I had to take my son to an all day wrestling meet - that's why I finished a book and started 2 others, lol. Kind of a mind numbing day except when he and his friends/team were wrestling. May I just say that bleachers should be made *softer* - my butt hurts from sitting so much.

message 335: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Completely agree on the bleacher aspect! I ended up buying a stadium seat that was portable and padded after my butt hurting one too many times. Hope he did well. I remember going to wrestling meets when I was in high school. I tried to get my son involved in it but he concentrated on soccer.

message 336: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ It's his first year. Last 4-5 yrs he's focused on basketball. His friends are wrestlers though. So far he likes it we'll see. He needs to "bulk up" - he currently has a runner or lean basketball player body. He's going to do a spring camp and poss a summer camp too.

Red-Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane, #1) by Jaye Wells by Jayne Wells
Finished:3/1/14
Rating:4 Stars
Review:This is a new to me author and series. I love the title of the book and can personally relate to Sabina. Sabina is always on the outside looking in as far as The Dominae concerned. What I loved most is her attitude. I think I'm going to continue this series.

Items Claimed

Animals~Wolf:I was the lone wolf now. Page 340
Misc~Dream:I knew without a doubt he'd been the mage in my dream. Page 215

Jennifer H Week 6: Wolf & Paper

Hammered (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne
Hammered by Kevin Hearne
Finished: 3/2/12
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Elf: from the King of the Dark Elves (p. 11)
Wolf: the vampire and the alpha wolf (p. 130)
Story: Will I ever get to hear the story (p. 90)
Flying Ship: an extremely turbulent airplane ride (p. 259)
Paper: note-sized sheets of paper (p. 32)

Hammered is the third book in the Iron Druid Chronicles. It's just as awesome as the first two, but it ends more than it concludes anything. I still love the mixing of mythologies. I mean, Atticus ends up in a bar fight with Jesus and then goes off to fight the Norse lightning god with the Russian lightning god (and some others). I can't wait to read the fourth book.

message 340: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Good morning ~ hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I got to see my four nieces (18 down to 8) on stage all together singing and dancing in Joseph yesterday - it was fabulous - such a great show!!

Nice job Angie and JenniferPP! I think I'm going to have to see if I can sneak that book into the mix this month, Angie.

Finished up Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter, #6) by Nalini Singh last night - will put up my words and review hopefully tonight.

message 341: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Glad you had a really good time.

~Melissa~ Week 6: Wolf & Paper
Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter, #6) by Nalini Singh
by Nalini Singh
Finished: 3/2/14
Kindle version
Rating: 4♥
Review: This 6th book of this series revolved around Elena and Raphael. It was nice to get back to the 'original' couple with this book. Lots of interesting developments within Raphael's 7 as well as the Cadre. We also had a glimpsed of an old flame for Raphael as well as Michaela being a basic narcissistic pain in the ass. Loved Elena's mind comments to Raphael at those times. I know I've said it before but it must be repeated. I love the world that Nalini Singh builds in her series!! Also, please, please, pretty please w/a cherry on top could Illium's book be next!!

Wolf: p374/LOC5909 Though she might've smiled and blushed into the kiss at the wolf whistles that floated up, followed by cheers.
Paper: p56/LOC965 heavy embossed paper, a polite invitation it had taken her hours to draft...
Grandmother: p60/LOC1028 "Darrell's grandmother, on the other hand, owns that building there"
Story: p47/LOC820 "Arson would make a good cover story, though."
Bridge: p 209/LOC3340 ...a car crossing a nearby bridge....

This is one of my favorite in this series. Not sure what it is but I can read this one over an over and not get tired of it. It explains why they decided to reveal themselves to the humans an try an live together.
