Short Person: a little boy who's being forced by his mother (p. 344)

Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher by Jim Butcher
Finished:3/23/14
Rating:4 Stars
Review:Harry Dresden is an openly practicing wizard in Chicago, when much of the magical community is hidden from everyone. Most people think Harry is joke or crazy person. Harry is willing to fight what goes bump in the night to protect everyone. Someone is using magic to kill and make a deadly drug called Three-Eye. It's up to Harry to find the killer before he's blamed for the killings.

Items Claimed
People~Brother:
Jenny put a hand on her brother's shoulder. Page 172
Animals~Bug:Never let it be said that Harry Dresden is afraid of a dried, dead bug. Page 39
Misc~Short Person:Toot was maybe six inches tall. He had silver dragonfly's wings sprouting from his back and the pale, beautiful, tiny humaniod form. Page 52
Props~Lamp:I clambered down the ladder to the lab, carrying my candle with me, and lit a few lamps, a pair of burners, and the kerosene heater in the corner. Page 67
Bonus~Purple:Violet light, visible to my sight, throbbed and pulsed inside the windows, power being gathered and prepared and shaped. Page 205

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I recently started this series and have been steadily reading them. I like them better and better as I read. Glad you enjoyed it!

Actually it's one of my favorite series. I'm anxiously awaiting newest book Skin Game which comes out in May.

~Melissa~ Way to Go JenniferPP and Angie!!

I finished up my book last night. Will post my review and words tonight if I get a chance.

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 9: Short Person/Purple

Tiger's Voyage (The Tiger Saga, #3) by Colleen Houck by Colleen Houck
read 3/23/14 - 4 stars

This is the 3rd book in the series and my favorite one so far. The three main characters are still on their quest to fulfill the prophecy and the bad guys are right behind them. I really like the interactions with the dragons. There is more action with the next step in the quest in this book than research about it. There are also a lot of interchanging relationships between characters and I am hopeful as to how the 4th book will resolve these.

Items claimed:

thief pg 474 "...prevent any potential thieves from escaping."

bear pg 170 "...flock to you like bears to honey..."

short person pg 429 "Though he was short, he strode quickly ahead."

apple pg 368 "Saving the apple for later..."

purple pg 304 "..bit savagely into the purple flesh and..."

~Melissa~ Week 9: Short Person/Purple

Midnight Awakening (Midnight Breed, #3) by Lara Adrian
3/23/14
5♥

Review: This was a re-read for me (first time in 2011). I enjoyed Tegan and Elise's story just as much the second time around. When done right I love a tortured hero story (Zsadist comes to mind). Elise has lost everyone she holds dead and feels she has nothing left to lose. She goes after the Minions to attempt to do some damage to the Rogues and their leader. This latest Minion she learned was set to pick up a package for his Master. Tegan finds her being threatened by 3 Rogues after just coming from killing the latest Minion. He takes her home to find out that she has killed over a dozen Minions since he dropped her at home 4 months ago and she has no plans to stop. Elise appears delicate and fragile ~ she is anything but that when she sets her mind to something. Tegan hasn't let anyone in to his life in centuries. Along the way - many other developments happen as well. This is where I stopped last time. I can't wait for Rio's book which is up next - another tormented hero =)

Short Person: p 363 They let this petite female - Tegan's mate, he thought with a swelling surge of pride....
Purple: p21 her pale amethyst (purple) eyes stayed fixed on him...
Bread: p 60 then popped the toaster and added the slice of bread...
Thief: p82 ....he would take great pleasure in personally questioning the thief who had it.
Bird: p330 beating like a caged bird...

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) No, - I've never read this series. I'm looking forward to reading what all the fuss is about!

Great review on Midnight Awakening, Melissa. I haven't started it yet.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I just have to share. I was just notified by B&N that I'm about to receive my settlement from the class action lawsuit that was done. $139 I'm getting back! I feel like I hit the lottery, but I guess it means I've spent a sh*tload of money! Still, it is nice.

I got the email today letting me know that it will be added to my account in the next three days, but I didn't get the email with the amount yet. I spend a ton on books too. I'll be happy with anything I get back! Yay!! Book shopping spree! :)

message 469: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) If you look at the email, there's a link to a page that will calculate what it is for you. You just put in your lawsuit ID and your zip code (the ID is in the email).

message 470: by Jennifer C. (new)

Jennifer C. Oh, thanks! I just checked and mine is only $40 but I'll take it! Clearly you spend way more than I do. Either that or you buy a lot of NY Times Bestsellers. I only had 4.

Turtlecollector Dennis I only got $1.46, but I wasn't even expecting anything. I thought that was the time period I was only downloading free books, but I guess I bought 2 for real money.

message 472: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Well, let's keep it a secret from my husband, but I'm sure it's because I spent way too much. I think the time period was when I first got my nook and I was home. Bad combination!

message 473: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Can we use any cover for our book? I just read one that has all the words but purple. But one of the covers is purple. Just curious.

message 474: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I opened my email yesterday to find I will have $53 dollars waiting for me once they add it to my account. Woohoo!!! We won't tell your husband a thing Leslie - as I'm not gonna tell my husband either, lol.

message 475: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Leslie - you can use the color on the bookcover for purple.

message 476: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Great! thanks Melissa. My husband would freak if he knew how much I've spent on books. I'm actually preventing a heart attack by keeping it s secret.

I hear ya' - we just won't mention it. I usually buy gift cards and/or ask for them for presents. Then it doesn't matter how much I spend, lol - no bill shows up on the credit card from B&N

message 478: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Why is there a lawsuit against B&N?

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ (wolffaerie17) | 1469 comments The lawsuit was against Penguin books over ebook prices.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Week 9: Short Person
Bonus: Purple
Erben des Blutes - Dunkler Fluch (Dark Dynasties #1) by Kendra Leigh Castle
3/25/14 4★
Review:
After reading this I remember why I love Kendra Leigh Castle. This was an ambitious start to a new series. The Vampire world is a political hotbed of hatred and ever shifting alliances, our hero is a complicated, moody vampire who also shifts into a black cat. And our heroine is a feisty human who also bears the mark of an ancient vampire dynasty. The only downside is that the story drags a little because of the complexity of the world building, but other than that - I loved it!

Short person: p. 34 the woman was very short
Purple: cover
Bug: p. 109 they've got a bug up their asses
or
Insect: p. 14 every insect was a wayward spirit
Prince: p. 36 Prince Insomnia
Apple: p. 264 sweet, tart apples

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) So, issue: I have a library ebook I need to read that I know has fictional place in it (it's on page 2, I saw it and stopped reading!) The problem is Overdrive won't let me search and it's not searchable on Amazon. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions!

message 486: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Leslie - if it is the book by Nora Roberts we talked about - you can search on Google Books but it wouldn't post the page # the word is on. You would have to mark the pages as you read the book.
I found brother/sister/dog for sure ~ cat(maybe - wasn't really referring to the animal) >> window/roof for bonus and blue on cover....

message 487: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) it is a NR book - Captive Star. Not sure if its what I mentioned to you or not. I will try google books

message 488: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Week 10: Bug
Bonus: Sock

It's Super Bonus Week!

message 490: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I have a book that has Sister, Wind(probably nudity too) and apple/shoe

message 491: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I'm going to read Be Still My Vampire Heart (Love at Stake, #3) by Kerrelyn Sparks

I can claim Prince/Sister, Bird/Cat/Bug, Nudity/Wind, Shoe & Sock.

Does anyone have a preference which word we use as the bonus word?

message 492: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Mar 28, 2014 10:05AM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis I plan to claim bird as my extra item, then I will only have one item each left in 3 categories next week and hope the right item is called. Otherwise, I will have 2 items left in a category and it will definitely take me 2 more weeks to finish.

I'm reading I Love This Bar (Honky Tonk, #1) by Carolyn Brown and it has all the words I need so I can pick whatever other ones work best.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ (wolffaerie17) | 1469 comments I'll be reading Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher . I'll be claiming Prince, Bug, Nudity, Shoe, Sock, and super bonus Cat.

message 494: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I'm going to read both Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5) by Jim Butcher and Captive Star (Stars of Mithra, #2) by Nora Roberts

The first one has bug, sock, shoe, naked (don't know about fictional place until I read) and either brother or sister.
I'm not sure other what the second book has other than fictional place and brother/sister. Not sure if it has bug and sock, but if it does I will use this book. Does that make sense?

I'm confused on the super bonus. Does it come from the bonus list?

message 495: by Jennifer H (last edited Mar 28, 2014 02:02PM) (new)

Jennifer H No, the super bonus means you can claim one extra item from the regular list. So, if you could claim bird along with bug that would be great. TC & I are claiming bird as well.

message 496: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Dusty, if you could try and claim Prince we could close that out. If you can't that is okay too :)

message 497: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Unfortunately, Death Masks only has bird bath for bird. I will check with Dawn to see if that works.

message 498: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Mar 28, 2014 03:35PM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis ~Leslie~ wrote: "Unfortunately, Death Masks only has bird bath for bird. I will check with Dawn to see if that works."

It has rooster pg 116 according to Amazon. You can use a type of bird. I will be reading that book soon too, but probably not until next week.

message 499: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Oh, perfect TC!! Thanks - I tried some other types of birds but not rooster.

Then I will use that for my extra bonus word.

message 500: by Dusty (new)

Dusty If anyone could give me some ideas for fictional place I would appreciate it. That's the only one I'm having a problem finding. Thanks
