It's not constant. You get things set and everything is smooth for a while, then your herbalist or blacksmith is fully stocked so you maybe have them clear rock to supplement the quarry or something. Or food starts to get low and you momentarily freak out because winter is almost here... Then there are disasters - fire, tornadoes, etc - but those can be turned off when you start a new city.
If you're not sure, then wishlist it and track sales for a good deal.

I'm upset I haven't gotten to play that one yet :-(

I see you bought off Bianca...

@Nicki - I actually passed on Warlock but grabbed Runespell because I am lacking in the tcg / ccg and related type games. I'm trying to be a well-rounded gamer. But man, the weekly sales can be hard on the willpower.

There's stuff you can take for that.

You just had to keep it up, eh? Well, thanks a lot. I now have 100 games. I went ahead and got the collection version with DLC.
:D
MrsJ is my book pusher, and I guess you're my games pusher.

I'm thinking "Gaming Readers / Reading Gamers" or something. I found one tiny group for video games but... I'm wanting to curate a more mature group than the one growing there. (Mature as in "act right in public", not mature as in "boobies". Just in case anyone misunderstood. :D)
So, thoughts? If even two people say they'd join, I'll create it. Because why not, right? :)

I'd join but I spend more of my time collecting games than playing them, it seems.
But I'd want it to be something that did both reads and games - maybe movies, too?
You know, like Diablo --> several books.

I'm thinking the same thing - there are tons of games with related books, books that came from games, games that came from books and so on. That includes comics / graphic novels.
And sure, we could do movies, too. Definitely fits. And they don't have to be directly related - for example, I'd love recommendations of movies that are like "insert game here" or game worlds that resemble "insert movie here", same for books.
Because I'm impatient, I'm already setting it up. :D It's going to initially be private because I want to ensure people can express themselves coherently before letting them in. Call me a snob, but too much time spent on the Steam forums makes one sensitive to... stuff.

I'm approving everyone that asks, so it's not like you have to write an admission essay in the box.

O_O
Uh oh. Steam help is never fun.

I give them info and they answer asking for the info i just gave them.
If all else fails I'll return the game to Amazon and buy it through Steam. maybe then I can get it to load.

That might be a good idea.
Also, try Amazon. They have been known to work wonders. I've even had them call my local post office.

I'm serious. It's like dealing with idiots. I send them what they ask for and they ask for it again. I've sent the "key number" twice and now they want a screen shot. I attached one. I seriously wonder if they read my replies, or if the read at all....or read English.
It's trying my patience.

Yeah. I've been in that never ending loop of WHAT????? that they call CS. I've never had good luck with their CS.

I normally have no issues with Steam as long as I don't have to contact CS. Happily, I have not had a lot of issues that require CS.

Good game. I need to host a board game night again soon so I can pull it out.

We have issues :-P

We've played 7 Wonders a few times, and we like the traditional-style games like Rummikub and Blokus. But the family won't play word or trivia games with me, and it's difficult to even pull them together for ordinary family games. :sigh:

I'll let you know if I get it straightened out.
I like strategy board games like Risk, Axis and Allies and so on. I also like Trivia games and games like Piticionary. Just no one else in the family does.
I do have a regular D&D game on Fri. nights now.

By the way, I suspect there are no humans at Steam. I think it's the first step in the cyber-revolution. The computers are rising up.

I am a bit jealous. I may have the same board game hoarding issue. In fact, we share some of the same games. But, you also have some that are on my "I-want-them-all-now-now-now-but-I-need-to-exercise-some-self-restraint" list.
The biggest challenge is deciding which game to play, because there are so many good ones. We had a board game night with friends last weekend, and we each dropped 3 game choices into a bowl and drew to see what we'd play.

Right now we've been playing Time Stories which is pretty cool. It's unique because you have a base game with a base story, and then you buy expansions with expansion stories. Each story is only ever played once, it's like a mystery solving type thing so once you solve it it would be pointless to play again. But it's pretty cool, and we get pretty sucked into it. It's cooperative as well, so that's nice for not fighting. There are four stories out so far, we've played the first two. Highly recommended!

We get into that kind of couple cold war during games where you can play aggressively or not. I tend to be a builder in games, but my S.O. is go hard and crush the enemy. So, in a game like Carcassonne, I will happily cultivate my interests. Meanwhile, rather than something that will grow his village, he'd rather play the tiles that block what I am trying to do. NOT NICE!!! Valerie go SMASH!
We like pretty much all types of games, although I am not a huge fan of bluffing games where you have to lie. I am a sh** liar and it makes me uncomfortable. So games like Sheriff of Nottingham are not so fun for me.
We also have unplayed games. When we travel we try to find a local gaming store where we pick up a game or two. But, that doesn't stop me from getting antsy a clicking Buy when I see a good deal on Amazon.
Lately, we've been playing a lot of Splendor. It is new and fresh to us. Plus, it is a quick game, so we can get a few plays in before bed time on a week night.
I think I've seen Time Stories when browsing. Sounds interesting.

Splendor is pretty good too, especially for a 2 player game. If you haven't tried it already, Lost Cities is a similar type of simple 2 player game that we love. Also, 7 Wonders Duel. We really liked 7 Wonders but the 2 player variant was kinda shit. Duel is specifically for 2 players and is really well done.

Dawn, sounds like we are bluffing opposites!
I have added Lost Cities to my want list. 7 Wonders Duel is already there. I've been chomping at the bit for it since reading an article that said the game play might even be more fun than the original 7 Wonders with more than 2 players.
I'm also jonesing pretty bad for Pandemic Legacy, but I need to brow beat, I mean recruit friends into a multi-session commitment.

I'm thinking about getting it cause of this conversation and it has 1 -4 players so I can play alone.

It has great Amazon reviews, as well as a pretty good geek rating on boardgamegeek.com.

Mice and Mystics - I've played this one alone and found that the story was enough to keep me interested. I prefer playing with other people though.. But I guess that's always true!

Agricola - This one is pretty complicated at first, but is SO fun once you learn it. Surprising, I know, since it's all about farming... But trust me, it's a great game. Only gripe here is that with the amount of setup and little components involved, if I'm playing 1 player I tend to just use the IOS version of the game. But I have played alone and it's fun! Good solo version specific rules built in.

Caverna - Like Agricola, but with Dwarven cave farmers instead of just regular farmers. Yeah that's a thing. I actually like Caverna better than Agricola, but haven't tried the 1 player variant yet.

BUt I think I'll get Pathfinder since hubby may be pressured into that one but he'd never ever play the farming one with me.

Caverna is expensive... But worth it! And farming is cool. He doesn't know what he's missing!
