100% done (232/232) (view spoiler)[ I love this book. what else can I say? that was the second time reading it and I loved it as much as the first time. I like how you feel like being the Person Charly writes to, I like the time period it takes place in, I like the characters and especially Charly with his way of seeing the world. The Story gets pretty dark here and there and I got really sad while reading it, especially towards the end. But it still is one of my favorite books. I'm glad that anything turned out fine at the end. (hide spoiler)]

I've just started reading this and I only planned to read a few pages but this is the most heart-breakingly pure thing I have ever read and I don't think I can stop!

First quarter - (view spoiler)[I am already in love with Charlie. He has the most pure soul and is so witty without even realising it. He needs to be protected at all costs! He mentioned reading To Kill a Mockingbird and this is apt as he reminds me so much of a modern day Scout. His observations are so spot on but an older reader can see the truth of what he recalls through his innocent perspective.

His growing friendship with Patrick and Sam seems just as pure too, so far. They accept him for who he is, regardless if he acts differently to others or is a lot younger. They also provide him with sound life advice and aren't afraid to inform him about topics such as masturbation or rape.

I feel horrifically sad when Sam talks about his sister. She is clearly suffering and allows herself to be used by boys who don't appreciate the person she is. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[That poem was so horrifically sad! This whole thing has an edge of sorrow to it, but following the reading of the poem is the first time the reader is introduced to Charlie's personal sadness.

Jeeez, Charlie's brother didn't hold back when he accused his sister of not standing up for women's rights when she allowed a boy to hit her! I'm glad he apologised and realised how shitty a comment this was, immediately after. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[Charlie is just the most precious little human! He is so socially inept and so awkward and so adorable and I just want to give him a big hug and protect him from the world.

Charlie makes the biggest mess of his brief relationship with Mary Elizabeth. I really appreciate how issues surrounding consent are brought up before and during their few dates and how both genders are treated equally in these discussions, such as when Sam says Charlie can tell Mary he isn't ready to kiss her. No one assumes it only has to be the other way around. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[Oh, my heart! The beginning of this broke me! The end, however, wasn't nearly so sad. The reveal about his Aunt Helen though was so sad!

With about 70 pages left to go it felt like things were wrapping up. Charlie's sister managed to get her life on track after her pregnancy scare and her shitty ex-boyfriend. Sam and Patrick were graduating high school too and Patrick seems happier after his tricky situation with Brad. But, after they were gone, Charlie would have been left all alone...

Charlie not only has such a wonderful support system with his friends and family but with his teacher too, who assigns him extra reading, extra essays, inviting him to his hone, and letting him know how special he is. They all have helped him to be okay, more than okay, when they leave. The world needs more heroes like this!

This was just, altogether, a pure story even I connected with the beginning more than the end. The end reveal was so unexpected and even though I wished a longer portion of the novel was focused on dealing with it, the pages that were dedicated to it did so in such a sensitive way. (hide spoiler)]

I've only seen the movie and I loved it each time I watched it. I'm already loving this book and I'm only 10 percent in.

Part One: (view spoiler)[Charlie is such a wholesome and innocent character. There's so much going which Charlie does not recognise and he's slowly discovering it all. I love the friendships he's found despite them being a little older than him (hide spoiler)]

Part Two: (view spoiler)[This is such a heavy book. It touches on so many issues in the world. Every part of this has so much tragedy in it.

I'm really feeling Charlie's emotions in this book. He seems like he has been through Depression and understands when things are too much.

Part Three: (view spoiler)[The entire relationship with Mary Elizabeth was a mess but a good learning experience for him. He definitely should not have lead her on but he's still growing up. I loved how his Dad made the effort to make sure he was educated about consent and safety of sex beforehand. (hide spoiler)]

Part Four: (view spoiler)[What I really love about this book is how important it is for someone to have support. If Charlie didn't have all that support I'm sure there would have been a much different outcome to the story. I really loved it but I wasn't surprised by anything that happened because I had seen the movie and knew what happens (hide spoiler)]
