The pacing is so slow and while I share similar feelings (like his feels about life I share anxiety and know what it's like to be in a situation like he is in at least I think) with Charlie yet I'm not connecting with him almost at all.

I didn't dislike it but I didn't like it either. I kind of liked the movie so it is a step back. I didn't really connect to any character and the pacing in this story is so slow. I hated how Sam was treated and Pat was just - I don't know. M.E. was also quite annoying. I don't know - it's meh?

End of part 2 (view spoiler)[ The story of Aunt Helen ruins me every time. It's so heartbreaking! Although it's more impactful in the movie I think, actually seeing him break down, instead of just "I felt very sad." That poem he read felt a lot sadder to me (hide spoiler)]

Part 1 (view spoiler)[I think it is kinda sweet that Charlie told Sam about the dream. He was so upset that he had "seen" her without her permission and he wanted to apologize for it. Since then, he has worked really hard not to think of her like that which is sweet. He's trying very hard to be considerate of her.

Bless Sam and Patrick for being so accepting of Charlie. They took him under their wing like they had known him for years. Ugh. It's beautiful.

The relationship his sister is in is hard for me to read (I knew a lot of this would be hard but didn't realize how hard until I started reading). I really wish she would have listened to people and stayed away from him. Curse that cycle of abuse. (hide spoiler)]

This is really frustrating I will agree! While it isn't right, I feel like he desperately wants to be loved because he doesn't always feel that that is why he let it go on so long. Plus, he does have some odd quirks to where he doesn't seem to fully grasp social cues and how it all works.

I hope you don't mind me just waltzing in like this but I just finished this book and really need to let a lot of things out.

Part 1: (view spoiler)[ Charlie is really odd and sweet. So innocent. I think he is the perfect main character for this book because another type of person (well, for starters it wouldn't be like this) would really change the feel of the book.
I agree with the sister's relationship. This is where everyone's "favourite quote" comes from and I don't really love that but that's beside the point. What pains me the most about her character and her role is that there are tons of people in real life that do get stuck in these type fo situations and they can't see it and it's really sad. Part 3: (view spoiler)[ I think this part is all about Charlie and his want/need to be accepted, loved, and to belong. I agree he could've handled things better but I honestly wouldn't expect it from some whose only friend probably committed suicide and other things that have happened to him. (hide spoiler)]

As most likely many people, I watched the movie before reading the book, and I gotta say that I liked the book better. Also, I figured out things before they were revealed (in the movie too), but I don't think it really affected my feelings for the book because what matters to me the most is Charlie and how he handles things. I really loved how it ends in a hopeful and bittersweet note. This book isn't for everyone but for the right people it is very important.

I remembered a close friend of mine as I was reading the story of Charlie. He's been through a lot and... oh.my.gosh. I'm so glad his parents know about his struggles. Others nowadays don't seek help or don't even speak up. Thank goodness Charlie has friends like Sam, Patrick (a.k.a. Patty, a.k.a. Nothing ) and a great teacher --- Bill. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I love the way Charly sees the world. I just love it. I feel sorry that he lost his best friend and sorry for his sister who got hit by her boyfriend. (I can't believe he caught them having sex :D the movie is much more innocent than the book) Even tho she is mad at him now he did the right thing in telling Bill about it. And he finally made some friends. I like Patrick and Sam. And yet again the book isn't as innocent as the movie in talking about masturbation and his dream about Sam. :D but it doesn't bother me. It makes the story and characters more realistically and does a good job in showing the mind of a 15-year old teenage boy. (hide spoiler)]

Charly ate a cannabis brownie without even knowing what was going on. :D and it's sad that Brad had to get wasted to make love to Patrick at first and they still have to keep it a secret. I dislike Craig. He seems like taking Sam for granted and doesn't care about her. It's a really realistic book and even though it's almost 20 years old, it doesn't seem that way . I love the way how Sam is to Charlie, almost sister like, and how Charlie tries not to fall in love with her (which he already did in my opinion) :p (hide spoiler)]

Charly feels guilty for his aunts death and I feel bad for him because it wasn't his fault. Mary Elizabeth seems like a really annoying Person tbh. The way he ended it with her was pretty mean though but all he wanted to be afterall is nice. He never wanted to hurt anyone but he did. Nevertheless Charly is a good guy.
