I am currently reading The Careful Use of Compliments by Alexander McCall Smith. It is a light romp through the life of Isabel Dalhousie who lives in Edinburgh, Scotland. She's very nosy and always finds herself in a "situation". This usually involves some sort of minor mystery. It's good, as always, and I'd give it between three and four stars, not because it isn't good but because it is light.

It's fun and Alexander McCall Smith has morals. The reading is very light and gives you a sense of place.
Had a kind of melt down last nite. The last 3 books I read/listened to was not what I was expecting. Disliked Scarpetta - Patricia Cornwell, wasn't keen on Betty: The Autobiography - Betty Driver due to what she did before, I think it wasn't my cup of tea (as they say) and finally Case Histories - Kate Atkinson started off good, got to middle was ok, then finally at the end, you just lost the plot of where all these characters and who they were or ended up being. I ended up keep going back and forwards to see who was who.Now I am reading Run For Your Life - James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge.
Finished Brink of Death by Brandilyn Collins and now I'm reading Speak by Laurie Anderson.Sue do you like Water for Elephants? I tried reading it and just couldn't get into it. Thought about trying to read it again when I saw your post.

Jo wrote: "Woman in White"Oh I had to read that for college. I had so much stuff going on at the time though that I really only remember reading sections of it. That definitely needs to go in my to re-read pile! The parts I did read I remember being enjoyable.
Finished Run For Your Life - James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge. Now I am listening to Digital Fortress - Dan Brown.

It does help, yes. After my less-than-impressed reading of Untouchable, I'll take a pass on the rest of this series. I loved the Fyne Witches trilogy, so hopefully you will, too. The follow-up trilogy on their kids, The Prince trilogy, was not as good as the Witches, but still OK.

Maybe I'll try it again then...We'll see...
About 2/3 through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This is so much more than it looks at first glance - a missing and/or murdered girl, a dysfunctional family, and the money/power games played in high finance. The original Swedish title: Men Who Hate Women, seems to more accurately indicate the theme threaded through everything else. I've reached the part where Lisbeth decides she's through with being a victim - wow!!
So I've been reading Death's Daughter. It's good so far but gotta say, there are a lot of "like"s in this book lol. And she's not even a teenager. haha
Finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - a 5* read, even tho I had some frustrations in the first part. Now to wind down, I'm reading Life, the Universe and Everything - even if I lose track of what's happening, I'll fit right in with the characters!
Finished The Joy Luck Club, Dead Until Dark, and Filthy Shakespeare. Starting on Living Dead in Dallas

so far I love it, I have to say though I keep waiting for the brothers to show up
Finished Death's Daughter and I think I'm booked out for the night. Will attempt Let The Right One In tomorrow. If that doesn't work it'll be time for funny.

I Loved, Loved, Loved that book! You should definitely read the sequel,
The Girl Who Played with Fire ; It really delves into Lisbeth Salander's character!

I want to read it, but our entire library system has only one copy of TGWPWF, so I'm working my way up the 'hold' list very slowly!
I just finished No Exit and Three Other Plays by Jean-Paul Sartre. I read 'No Exit' in high school and found it very thought provoking and I liked 'Dirty Hands,' which was the third play in the book. I found 'The Flied' to be slightly tedious and I think I only half got the point. If the book had only included 'No Exit' it would have gotten a better star rating though. Only I'm sure Sartre really wouldn't care.Still reading The Golden Notebook, but also started Sin and Syntax How to Craft Wickedly Effective Prose by Constance Hale. So far it's been informative and entertaining, a mix betweent Eats, Shoots & Leaves The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation and The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition. It has made me extrememly conscious of each word I type though and I now am spending forever on each email I send out.
I finished Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris yesterday, and had mixed feelings about starting book three before the next season of True Blood (not sure if I want to know ahead of time). So I'll be fully decided by Wednesday.Started the Alchemaster's Apprentice by Walter Moers, I love his writing style. It flows so naturally, and it's not everyday you find an fairy-tale like adult novel that can pull you in.
After reading all the reviews about the Brotherhood of the Bladk Daggers I finally bought Dark Lover and began the series. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I normally read Historical Fiction or mysteries. I'm glad there was someplace I could go to read all those reviews. Goodreads is awesome!
I am now reading Lucky by Alice Sebold for a Women in Literature class and The Awakening and The Struggle by L.J. Smith.
Just finished Surrender to the Devil, a strong 4* read. I really like the way she developed her characters a la "Oliver Twist"; she even had Dickens appear in this story reading "A Christmas Carol".Now starting Lover Enshrined
Barbara wrote: "I am now reading Lucky by Alice Sebold for a Women in Literature class and The Awakening and The Struggle by L.J. Smith."Is 'Lucky' good so far? I read The Lovely Bones in high school and thought it was good, but at the time I didn't read much non-fiction so I never got around to 'Lucky.'
I have to go and grab Lucky today. Borders pulled Lovely Bones off the shelf and reserved that one for me. Then they were all out of Lucky when I went in so I didn't get the discount. Grrr! I will let you know though!
I finished Speak and now I'm reading Cold Fire by Dean Koontz.I think I must be the only person that didn't care for Lovely Bones. I thought the whole book was kind of weird. Oh well...guess that's why we get to read what we like right? hehe.

How did you like 'Dexter?' I've been dying to read the series, but haven't gotten to the library lately.
Just listening to Swimsuit - James Patterson. Listened to Alex Cross's Trial - James Patterson last night.
Well, I haven't started "Lucky" yet because the school bookstore and Border's by my school was out. I am going home today though and I can pick it up then. Meanwhile, I have been reading The Fury by L.J. Smith. The Vampire Diaries series is good, but definitely not as good as the television series.

Thanks,

Just finished the marvellous Swimsuit - James Patterson. Will now listen to The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown.

I liked it. It wasn't very scary which is a good thing for me and it was a quick read.
