Recall reading a short story in one of my textbooks in school (90's). About some lead soldiers in a clocktower in Denmark that the Nazis wanted to confiscate to be melted down. So the local people hide them. Nazi soldier finds them but does not reveal that he has, as they are the first people to look at him without fear.. Anyone know the name of the story?

I haven't actually read this book, but I have seen a TV movie based on it.
