Thats a good one, I didn't think of Christine Feehan. She got me started too, along with L.J. Smith!

Oh, definitely L.J. Smith. That was back when vamps would have been considered horror or fantasy. I devoured anything with vamps in my teen years, but that wasn't much. The ones listed above are what brought me back!

I know! When I was a teen it was difficult to find vampire novels unless you wanted the horror version of a vamp. (sigh) I am so grateful that is not the case any longer!

I definitely like the vamp as the love interest, not the bad guy. My biggest no no in a vamp book is the vamp who only wants to be mortal again. Not what I want to read about when they could be enjoying all there nifty powers. For me, they're like the ultimate bad boy.
My current two favorite vamp series are:The Black Dagger Brotherhood - J.R. Ward
The Twilight Saga - Stephenie Meyer
They're both awesome, IMHO.
I would have to say JR Ward's BDB. I just got my hands on all of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series. That will probably be it though as far as Vamps go. I do enjoy watching True Blood on HBO, I believe that it is based on Charlaine Harris' books.
JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood and Jeanine Frost's Nighthuntress series.I like vamps that are just hot and sexy. No scary or horror type vamps for me...LOL
I'd say.. J.R Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress, and Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters (would you call them Vamps?)
Nona wrote: "never read JR Ward only Stephanie Meyer and Anne Rice, Rice being my favorite."I dont think Rice writes about vampires any more. So sad too.
What got me started way back in the day was the Vampire series by Shannon Drake. I read #2When Darkness Falls first and then 1,3 and 4 before I moved on to The Dark Hunter series. I was eventually distracted from the Dark Hunter series by the BDB. So I would say those three, lol.Shannon Drake
Sherrilyn Kenyon
J.R. Ward
TwilightThe House of Night
Blue Bloods
Anita Blake series
Stephanie, you are right. I read that Rice became a born again Christian and that her son is going to try and pick up where her series left off.
Anita Blake Series Laurell K. Hamilton - my favorite even with all the sex :)House of Night P.C. Cast - good YA but sometimes too teen if that makes sense
Vampire Academy Richelle Mead - great YA
Night Huntress Jeaniene Frost - amusing and kick-butt
Undead Series MaryJanice Davidson - FUNNY STUFF
I could probably go on but I won't lol.

I have not read Sookie Stackhouse, Blue Bloods or House of Night and am working towards reading them but as of yet I still perfer Anne Rices Vampire Chronicles. Anne Rice has the amazing ability to create complex characters and show the reader their strengths and weakness' in a way that makes the reader understand them and feel for them, or was that just me? lol. I loved how her characters were all from different backgrounds and each had their own story in the end wrapped in one though.
BDB from J.R. WardDark-Hunters from Sherrilyn Kenyon
Anita Blake from Laurell K. Hamilton
Gardella chronicles from Colleen Gleason
Immortals after dark has some Vamps from Kresley Cole
Demonica series has some from Larissa Ione
sookie stackhouse from Charlaine Harris
Wow and thats just the vamp series i have going on
Dracula or Carmilla are easilly the two best vampire stories. I don't like series. However I do like Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries. I think Sookie is the best paranormal series.
Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan.Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber
Vampirates by Justin Somper
I read the first in the House of Night series and didn't really like it.
The Morganville VampiresHouse Of Night
Sookkie Stackhouse
The Twilight Saga
Vampire Academy
Vampire Diaries

I love those ones and have read them more then once:)
Charlaine Harris- Sookie StackhouseLaurell K Hamiliton- Anita Blake
Anne Rice- The Vampire Chronicles
Vampire Academy series - Richelle MeadBlue Bloods series - Melissa De la cruz
I haven't yet read the Sookie Stackhouse novels but I watch True Blood in HBO and love the show.
Best Vampire series is Sookie Stackouse Southern Vampire Mysteries. Hurry summers here, and a new season of the best show on TV Trueblood is back. I missed the last2/3 of the finale last year. Boy did I miss allot. Good grief is the sex and violence graffic or what. Like when Jessica climbs on top of Jason. Damn! No other show has the graffic sex,gay sex, drugs, and violence that TB dishes out in style. I sign up for HBO each summer and cancel it at the end of the TB season. Man Russell Edgington is loose, Eric & Bill wacked Nan Flanigan( go boys, go!) Neither of them got Sookie. I bet that pissed of all Erics fanatically obssesed fans. Har! I can't wait for this summers first show. ; )
The Night Huntress series by Jeanine Frost is the best vampire series I've read, yet. Really, it's my second favorite series of all time. It's got everything.
I really liked The Strain series by Guillermo del Toro. I know, the vampires were the bad guys, lol. I also like the Twilight series. Two totally different kinds of books. Oh well :)
well... maybe a weird question, but whatever I am not a big fan of most modern renditions of vampires, either those where vampires look like flashy models from a fashion magazine or where they are ancient casanovas and such stuff, oozingly annoying if you ask me... but I really liked vampires in lets say Blade movie series, to some extent in Underworld movies but especially in Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption game... oh, and of course and foremost, the vampires of Legacy of Kain game series...
in Blade/Underworld series they were the hunters of the night, possessors of great hi-tech and knowledge, fighting with speed and grace, night assassins, but smart, yet cold... not sure if thats a good description, but still alright
in Vampire the Masquerade they were more like secret society quietly protecting mortals (at least some of the more humanity-driven clans), wise... but of course varying by clans
and in Legacy of Kain they were portrayed as an ancient race of wisdom, that kinda protected the world, the balance in it and those who lived there, maintaining the pillars etc... so something like gods over mankind, with vast, deep knowledge and profound history, edified creatures
so all in all, not cheesy renditions that melt like sugar
is there any series that portrays vampires in a non-cheesy way? y see, lets say VTMR even managed to put in some little romance without it sounding like Romeo and Juliet without brains :D
hmm, could you tell me something a taaad closer about it? never heard of him so I wont mind you telling me in brief how he is :)
The series is "Necroscope". There is a very old vampire buried and bound who uses a Soviet Spy he teaches to be the Necromancer, stealing secrets from the dead so they can rule the world. But The British Secret Service also has a paranormal agency and so the war is on to stop the evil. There are 15 novels is the series, 2 short stories. I think anyone who likes horror novels would like the series, but especially guys because it's not all gooey romance stuff. I've only read a couple of them. But, I think you would probably like these.
Necroscope sounds good. This Sunday season priemer of TrueBlood on HBO. One hour of get down paranormal vampire action. It just doesn't get any better.
I should probably start and try to finish VTM Bloodlines, apparently the best vampire game there ever was, besides Legacy of Kain... heard that one has great story to it with many twists and turns :)
Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan is easily the best Vampire series I've ever read.A close second would be Vampire chronicles by Anne Rice but I haven't read all of them.
Cirque Du Freak is very good. But a little to YA to be my fave. Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries is numba one. Mainlly because it is multi genre. Horror,Mystery,Porn. I really like single book vampire stories the best. There aren't many of them. Carmilla/Dracula. True Blood best show on TV
I have only read one so won't comment on it being the best more my favourite so far and thats Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries.
I don't have any interest in reading twilight.
but do plan to read
Anita Blake Series: Laurell K Hamilton
Vampire Chronicles: Anne Rice
Women of the Otherworld: Kelley Armstrong
Cirque Du Freak: Darran Shan.
However due currently having 7 series on the go at the minute alternating between them all I plan to finish a few before starting anymore! eek!.

Rena wrote: "Mary wrote: " I think that people are raving about it because after the teen-vampire boom thanks to Twilight"I have witnessed a 11 year old friend of my daughters in a harry potter robe (no real reason for this attire, the kid just wears a beautiful velvet harry potter robe everywhere) yelling "Vampires don't sparkle! Twi-hards suck! Go read a real book like Dracula or something!" at another group of young girls.
I have to admit it's a hell of a step up from pre-teens arguing about which pop group is the best even if I am in complete agreement with said 11 year old.
The Vampire Academy Series and Sookie Stackhouse novels have been some of my favorites. More recently I have gotten into the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, and am loving it!!!
The vampire academy series - Richelle MeadThe sookie stackhouse series - Charlaine Harris
The Morganville Vampire - Rachel Caine
Anita Blake - Laurell K hamilton
I enjoyed all of these series and wanted alot more of them to read though I wasn't dissapointed with how any of them ended. Some books may still be written though.
Right now I'm reading The Dark Series by Christine Feehan and I'm enjoying those too.
My favs are,The mortal instruments series,Twilight, Anne rice, Lj Smith, house of night, Scott Westerfeld's Peeps, Dark Hunter, Night World (as one of my most favorite), and bdb.
ok, ok I have my list :D 1. Sherrilyn Kenyon - I just love her

5. Richelle Mead - Vampire academy
6. Adrian Laura - Midnight breed

Two series by Karen Chance: The Cassie Palmer series, first book - Touch the Dark ;and the Midnight's Daughter series, first book - Midnight's Daughter.Amaranthine Series by Joleene Naylor. Note that the the vampires tend to be the scary people eating version. The first is Shades of Gray (its not a title rip-off, she wrote it in 2008 when FSoG was a serial entitled 'Master of the universe).
