Let's Chat! - 2014 to 2017
When the year changed in Finland I was in bed reading a book :D Tried to sleep but it was mission impossible thanks to all fireworks. For me the New Years Eve is just a normal night and New Years Day just an extra day-off from work.
Blizzard warnings posted here, plenty of time in the next couple of days to read. Not going anywhere.
I went to Skyzone, a trampoline gym and acted like a kid for New Years Eve, which was an exhausting workout. All my friends went and we were so tired we ended up staying in and watching Netflix. I fell asleep before midnight! For New Years, I learned how to snowboard, and as a skier, I'm not sure which I prefer. All in all a great holiday. Happy New Year!
I joined the group last month and I'm excited to participate in some challenges. Last night I started reading Wool Omnibus and I love it. It was a treat to find it was a Group Read in November. I read the discussion archive up to Part 3 this morning. I love the way the Group Reads break books into chunks so that discussions can be participated in along the way. It is nice to share the book before completion when you're excited about it.
I have had a cold, so I went to bed early with my book The Dinosaur Feather. It was lovely seeing on my phone all the Goodreads posts come in from so many other people who were also ringing in the New Year with a great book! And I spent all of New Years Day reading peacefully on my patio. I loved it!
I spent my New Years Day watching The Walking Dead Marathon. And now I have to wait until February to see another episode. Xd
So, I am snowed in and feeling stir crazy because of a crazy winter storm blizzard in the northeast, by tomorrow, the expected accumulation is 8-12 inches of snow. Yippee!

GLADLY!!! If only our climates could find some lovely and mild middle ground instead of this. I can't even see through most most parts of the windows in the house because they are icing over...
Brian wrote: "If only our climates could find some lovely and mild middle ground instead of this."Compared to what I'm hearing my climate is a mild middle ground all year round, just like Craig's. At the moment its about 7C. In general it rarely goes above 20C or below -5C here in Wales. The price we pay for this mild climate is rain literally 260 days of the year. Honestly I'd prefer extreme heat and extreme snow and ice to non-stop rain.
Hi everyone! It's been a while since I have posted here. There have been a lot of changes in my life, so I haven't had much time to read. The good news is that next week I'm going to start my very first full-time job. So the next couple of months are going to be busy, but very exciting and in the mean time I hope that I have time to read some books.
I hope you all had wonderful holidays and, even though I'm a few days late, I wish you all the best in 2014!
Good to see you, Lianne, and congratulations! I remember being super excited but crazy nervous for my first full-time job. My main concern was How am I going to sit in a cubicle for nine hours every day? It ended up being fine.
Thank you Kara! I'm starting to get nervous now that Monday is getting closer and closer. But it's a comforting feeling that (almost) everyone is nervous for their first day at work.
I rang in the New Year very quietly with my family because we had to catch a 6.30 flight out of the awful Scottish weather and into some Tunisian sunshine. It has meant that I've managed some blissful poolside reading as a kick start to the year!
Until your comment Sarah I'd never heard of her. Just looked her up, some of her books sound pretty interesting.
StefaniHer Outlander Series is currently being made into a series on Starz. Its about time! Thank goodness! Please get Outlander and you will see why she is so awesome! I can't wait to hear from you. They are actually filming there too! Let me know what you think!!

What? That makes me so happy/excited!
Hi all! I'm sorry for being MIA this last week. I've been at our annual sales meeting and will continue to be here through the coming week, so things are a bit crazy. It feels so weird to not have time to check Goodreads throughout the day!I'm curious now. On average, how often are you on Goodreads?
Greeting from Perth, Australia. Weather: Sunny and 42 degrees! I have just finished my first book of 2014 - Gone Girl. Where do I go from here after such a thrilling and suspenseful read?
I spend my new years eve reading a book since I've got a real reason for staying up all night. Then pause for a while to eat, take pictures with my family, watch firework. Then after, I read until the sky started to lighten up, then thats the time I slept ;))
I need to vent :( I just deactivated my facebook account so i need to cry on your shoulders...I just go made redundant at work no clues nothing just told my position isnt required anymore :(
I'm here daily! That might change when I'm going back to work next week.. I don't even know if I have time/energy to read anymore then :D
Kara wrote: "Oh Ashlee, I'm so sorry! That's really rough."thanks hun i feel much better today nice new start and also good to know I can actually take a break from facebook which I usually check every couple of hours :)
Hi Megan,I am so excited about the series too! If you go to Diana Gabaldon's FB page there is a clip from the series. And you can see who is going to be playing who. Its so thrilling to now have a face with a character. Oh, and this is thrilling as well, Diana will be doing a cameo in the series as well! Is't that wonderful! Have you read all her books? Happy to have a fellow Outlander fan here!

Thanks for the tip! I've read to the fifth book. love the stories but the books are so long that I have to pace myself:)

Does anyone ever feel guilty for how much time they spend on this site? I can waste away hours just browsing, and while I'll have enjoyed picking out future reads and seeing what everyone else is getting up to, I can't help but think 'how many pages of my current book could I have read during that time?'
Laura Jane wrote: "Does anyone ever feel guilty for how much time they spend on this site? But I have to be in the right mood to sit down and read. So if I were in that mood i'd be reading!
Laura Jane wrote: "Does anyone ever feel guilty for how much time they spend on this site? Though I do agree with Ian that I have to be in the right mood to read. Plus, without this site I certainly wouldn't read as much as I do now. For one thing I wouldn't have know about all these great books, and for another I wouldn't be motivated to read by challenges and lists and stuff.
My husband and I actually stayed in and had our wonderful neighbors come over to the Raymer Roost as my husband lovingly calls our basement fun room and had a marvelous time.
Nathaly wrote: "WOW! 3,000 members!"Are you kidding Nathaly! We have 3,000 members? Just before Christmas, we were talking about how it would be neat to have 2014 by the New Year. That is a crazy a lot of new people! Word must have gotten around about how great our group it.
Wow, I've never been as cold in my life as I was this morning scraping my car off! It was 6°F (-14°C), but the windchill made it much, much, much colder than that. I had to keep taking breaks and sitting in the car because my fingers and ears hurt so badly. How's the weather where you are?

So jealous, Valerie! I'm from Hawaii, so I'm really not used to the Michigan weather (and it's particularly bad this year).
Oh Kara,I am constantly complaining about how cold I am. In Vancouver, we are nowhere near as cold as you are. I don't think we have broken into the negative temperatures for a few weeks now, but I am still cold. This past week though we have had the most beautiful sunny weather. It was even warm this afternoon, 12°C .
I am not sure I could have left that beautiful Hawaiian sunshine and ocean views, especially for cold winters. I hope you get many opportunities to go back and visit Hawaii.
Jodi, I don't get to go home as often as I'd like, but I still make it back once a year or so.I've been to Vancouver! It's just beautiful (and in a completely different way than Hawaii is beautiful).
Thanks Kara! I do love Vancouver and feel lucky every time I get to the beach or the mountains. It is a beautiful city. I wouldn't mind the temperature being more Hawaii like though :)
It's a cool 60 degrees here. After the ridiculous warm weather of December these couple of days have been great.
We're having a mild winter in Oslo, which means it hasn't dipped much below -14 C, mostly staying around, uh, a toasty -5. It's been snowing in the most annoying way, though. Huge, wet snowflakes. Vancouver is high up on my list of places I'd like to visit if I had a considerably larger vacation budget!
It's 56 degrees in West Palm Beach right now, with a high of 76 for the afternoon. That's quite chilly for South Florida and most of the Floridians will be bundled in sweaters today, while the tourists will be out in t-shirts and shorts:)
Craig wrote: "The weather here is just miserable, not so much cold (it's around 5-10 degrees) but just constantly raining!! It was enough to drive us to booking our holidays up to summer last night :)Does any..."
I think I might be going to Florida this year, probably in the summer when I have the time off. I would love to go somewhere during spring break but I am sure that won't happen.
