How can I make a novella/short story not count in my goodreads challenge?

Winter if you don't click on it as you are "currently reading and then click on read" it won't count.
I just gave up a book. I don't know what to think of it, perhaps it was wrong timing, perhaps too abstract for me, but I knew I wouldn't enjoy it and I could smell the 2 stars. But the author really just have one review, and I didn't want to ruin with a bad review when I know I don't enjoy reading it and there's so many I want to read, so I will switch my 14. on tbr list for a new book. Do you often give up on books?

I don't call it giving up on the book, I say rather that I'm putting it away for now.
Yeah probably right. I might see what the other person saw in it later. I couldn't follow the story because it was told in bits, but maybe later, who knows.
I find it very difficult to put books down but I would like to learn how. I have forced myself to get through books that I hate too many times just to say I finished it. It's really not worth it.
No not really. I seldom quit, and wouldn't if it was a spesific book for a challenge I think, but I switched it for another, had read 8 % only, but it was just too depressing and everywhere for me and I have so many books on my list
Have some of you ever thought of or are some of you even now tackling the master list, 1001 books you must read before you die?
Winter wrote: "Have some of you ever thought of or are some of you even now tackling the master list, 1001 books you must read before you die?"Is there an official list of the 1001? I googled it and there are a few to choose from...
yeah. I found one, but it seems some are missing. It's a list from 2012, the last update, seems correct, but before 1000 there's some missing, I wondered it someone had the correct list too..
Not me. I found that list through the Internet and cannot speak to its accuracy. I've been reading through Harold Bloom's Western Canon list.
Will look some more :) Never heard of that list. This challenge and list thing really got me into heavy reading again. Not that I don't always read, but this just makes it so fun and I explore new things. Good too, for with bad shoulder, hands and back it's pretty much what I'm supposed to do right now exept training :)
I've been more tempted to read the Rory Gilmore reading challenge but that's mostly because I'm watching it now.

Of course that didn't keep me from watching the seasons a shameful amount of times lol. I have the Rory booklist saved and sometimes I'll pick up a book from it. It's a good starting out list on here when you're just getting started. I think they did a good job of getting a bit of everything in there.
Winter wrote: "Where do you draw the line between novellas and books? would you count A Christmas Carol as a book?"I was just wondering about this. I was reading a couple short stories that went along with a series I've just started and wasn't sure if they should be included in my list.
I'd say A Christmas Carol would count as a book, not because of it's length but because of it being a classic. Which is weird logic lol, but it works in my brain at least.
I did decide that I'd leave the short stories on my Reading Challenge list but just tack on a couple more books to my goal in the long run.
I asked if anyone else do the 1001 books to read before you die, and we tried to find a good list. For iphone/ipod users, I discovered they have an app that you can use to track it and you can pick if you want to pick one edition or the complete list :) It's great!
I think I will count it as a book, it's over 100 pages I think. I will see when I read it. As opposed to Stephen Kings UR that I don't count.
Winter wrote: "For iphone/ipod users, I discovered they have an app that you can use to track it and you can pi..."Is it a GoodReads app or under a different name? I'd like to look it up. I'm working through 1001 too.
I think it is an app from the publishers. search 1001 books, it should come up, but couldn't find it on my android, only for my ipod, so depends if you have an apple device? Have you read many? I started now. I did read from it years ago, but I want to read even the ones I have read again, so I will only count them then.

Okay, great. :) I haven't gotten to very many of them yet. I've read 108 from the spreadsheet. Some years ago that I'd like to read again, most in high school. I didn't know about the list back then so now I'm going back through and marking whatever seems interesting.
Cool :) I want to do the whole thing eventually :) The app tells you when you can expect to be finish. A very long project ^^ I'm exited to read things I didn't know of like chinese big classics:) I have just read some few so it's no problem to read again.

Harold Bloom seems like such a reliable source for great literature now, as is Penguin publishing. But I have found over the years that joining groups like this one often leads me in the right direction. My TBR list is insanely long, and at the rate I read will take me at least 10 years.
On a different note, there is a new Sherlock Holmes movie coming!

I would have liked to keep track.

Kara wrote: "Happy World Book Day, all my fellow book lovers!"Kristan Higgins posted on facebook: "It's World Book Day! Or as we all call it, 'day'. Read on, peeps!" So appropriate for our group:)
It is a little expensive for an app, but I thought it is so good, worth the price, and I will spend years doing this so over those years it's not too much :P That's right Ariel:)
The fun thing for me is that it has so many books I would never read on my own, but that I'm now so exited to read; for ex the four big chinese classics. Anyone read them and know where to start and which version on kindle? One of them has a version with one to $20!! and one is 3 dollar. I want to read unabridged..
Yes I would definitely say that! Cathy kind of likes leading men on...
Winter wrote: "Is Fire and Ice counted as antonyms?"It's a little bit of a stretch, but I think it works.
Listopia to the rescue! Check out this list of books with antonym titles: www.goodreads.com/list/show/83157.Boo...
lots of great choices there and already on my list. This is the popsugar challenge (personal), so I have the whole year :)
What do you do? You're 30 pages into a beautifully written book you've been looking forward to reading and you've pretty much figured out how it's going to end.
Some of the finest stories ever written don't have a whole lot of surprises to them. Oedipus Rex comes to my mind as an example of a great book where you know what's gonna happen from page one on. This is all to say, keep reading! :)
I would keep going. The journey is what matters, not the ending, especially if the writing is really good :)
