OMG! My TBR list consists in 940 books (I don't own everything..)Reading all 940 books will take:
9 years and 6 months
You will finish your TBR pile on:
March 17, 2026
And you will be:
40
I need another life!
my to-read (1433) but over a 1000 of those are kindle books:
Total other books ( paperback, nook books, iBooks, hardback books, and bookshout books : 421
Total kindle library: 1090
total read kindle books : 78
total kindle TBR : 1012
but that grew because I keep getting free kindle books when something catches my eye
if I did the math right
Anyone have a library in their home? I have no bookshelves so books are stacked up in tables or containers and my mom's house (most are at my mom's house I hope humidity hasn't killed them...my BABIES). I really really want to get bookshelves and put them all over the house. Husband will just have to deal with the home becoming a library.
I have bookshelves in almost every room of my house. And I still don't have enough shelf space! When I moved into my new house I wanted to have one room for just books, but I ended up not being able to organize it that way. So, the books are still just spread out all over.
We recently bought a new house, and it came with these beautiful built in bookshelves right around the fireplace. It's one of my favorite things about the place and serves as our library.
@Kara - built in bookshelves! That sounds so lovely.@Catherine - I like the idea of having books in every room. I'd still want a main room for them I like picturing a house filled with books.
Hey guys how is your first day of October, and what books are you reading: my first day is not so good, woke up sick with a stuffy nose, head ace and a really bad sore throat , the plus side is I'm reading to really good books which is :
The Big Book of Jack the Ripper by Otto Penzler and
The Tommyknockers by Stephen King, plus it seem that the crazies are coming out here in Charleston WV, my mom just told me that yesterday all the cops where at the Elementary Schools because someone saw that there was going to be a lot of clowns out side of the schools and if they saw any kids out side they was going to hurt them, so the schools had to keep the kids inside , she said that the copes was outside the schools just incase that happened. scary how the world is today

Hello all! I was not active in the last weeks due to an operation... Now I am in recover and slowly starting to feel better so the best thing to do is... Read, read and read... Saying that today I am finally coming back to Goodreads and to update my progress in books. I notice that now if I go to a book that I have in my Kindle Goodreads show me how many highlights I made from that book and I can even go to the notes inside Goodreads, I find it pretty nice and a progress in the integration of Goodreads and Amazon. Currently this is in Beta but was wonder if somebody else has noticed this.. And what do you think.
Caro wrote: "Hello all! I was not active in the last weeks due to an operation... Now I am in recover and slowly starting to feel better so the best thing to do is... Read, read and read... Saying that today I ..."Hope you get well soon, Caro! Do enjoy the down time though!
There is definitely more synchronization between my Kindle and Goodreads! If I mark a book finished in my Kindle app, it automatically moves it from Currently Reading to Read. It does synchronize notes, highlights, etc. but I haven't made much use of that tool.
I am slightly jealous of all of you living in the US, UK etc. I like reading books in English (although my native language is Norwegian), if they are written originally in a non-Scandinavian language. If they are written in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, I'll go for Norwegian because I think that'll give the best experience. ;-)But, many of the books I wanna read are not among the most popular - for example written by African authors and so on - and so I rarely find them in libraries here.. Maybe in Norwegian - probably not in English. Which means I have to order them. Luckily BetterWorld often have them and shipping is free and it is such a good cause all in all (I try to avoid Amazon) - but doing all these challenges and having to order quite a lot of books, will result in spending some money! I think I'll wish for books and gift cards this Christmas.. ;-)
Karoline, I actually sympathize with you. I found out this week that Norway is the most expensive country to send mail to, so I'm sure you pay more in shipping than you do for the books!I'll have to look at BetterWorld. I am very addicted to Amazon because it has everything, and I am a heartless capitalist (I know I need to work on that).
As for the Kindle/Goodreads sync...I love it!
We pay more toll and taxes for everything pretty much. It is one the most expensive countries for everything really. I love that I have my kindle..
And have any of you try book depository? Is great and sometimes books are cheaper than in the kindle store
Caro wrote: "And have any of you try book depository? Is great and sometimes books are cheaper than in the kindle store"Yep :) Right now I don't buy much because all my birthday money went to books and I still have a lot to read. But that and Bokklubben (a N. store) is what I use. I buy it where it is cheaper.
Caro, thanks for the Book Depository suggestion! I'll definitely check that out. It has free shipping, like BetterWorldBooks, which is great. I like BetterWorldBooks because it is often used/old library books.. They often save books that would have been just thrown away even if it still was in decent condition. I am a sucker for physical books - I don't think I can ever do eBooks. I love the feeling (and smell) of holding a book in my hand.
Winter - luckily we dont pay toll/customs for books! :) Also, I like using Bokfunn.no for Norwegian book stores.
I fought having a Kindle forever! Then airlines started charging extra to check in bags and putting weight limits on carry-ons, and I couldn't bring all the books I needed for a week long vacation. So when I got my iPad, I downloaded my first few ebooks. That was 5 years ago. This last year, I finally crossed over to the electronic side, and my husband bought me a Kindle Paperwhite. I love it because it fits in my purse so I always have it when I go to the doctor have to wait somewhere, but I still love physical books better.
When the kindle first first came out I refuse to Buy it. I was saying that I will never leave physical books that I will always use them and never never never and electronic one. But one day I didn't find the book that I wanted and I was trying to order several times in the American bookstore here. To buy it from amazon i would have to pay almost the same price for the shipping than the book, so I tried the kindle application in my tablet and it cost me a little bit in the beginning but after a while I got used to and now I am enjoying having physical books and my kindle
I have a question for readers and writers and editors: is it (for lack of a better way of putting it) socally acceptable for goodreads authors to mark that they have read their own books? I get that rating it would appear extremely bias, but I kind of feel arrogant marking my own book as read. But i have read it (like 50 times do to the editing process -_-). Maybe it's just me who feels this way. Any thoughts?
I've seen authors even rating their own book, and I thought it was a little silly, but those reviews always tend to get likes.
Keri wrote: "Oh really? Yeah, i always felt like that was silly. I don't think i can rate it fairly. Lol"If I had written a book, I would certainly both mark it as read AND give it the highest rating, haha... Surely you are proud of it, and you should show it :-)
Hello! Is any of you in the Dewey 's readathron? I am taking a small break to eat dinner... I don't believe I will manage to stay awake the 24 hrs, but let's see....
I thought about joining but I didn't want to destroy my sleep schedule, haha! Good luck to you, Caro!
Oh I tried but actually was exhusted and prefer to go to sleep. The one I really like is 24 in 48. It will come in January and Is more relax you just dedicate 24 of your 48 hrs of your weekend to read so plenty of time to sleep and shower with calm... Nevertheless I manage to read 4 books 2 of them quite short, but nevertheless... In 24 in 48 I read 5 two of them short.... So maybe this is a progress ? Anyways it motivates me to read a bit more and maybe next weekend I will do my private readathon just because with some short breaks to sleep and shower. To practice for January and at the same time see if I manage to finish some of my challenge of this year...
Oh, that sounds really fun! I love the idea of readathons but can never do as well as I want because all I can think about is how tired I'll be the next week. I might have to participate in the 24 in 48 thing.
I will post the link as soon as I know... Is actually quite fun! And now with Litsy it motivates me even more! Is so sad for me that Goodreads did not create yet a nice and easy method to update pictures from the phone.... That and the .5 stars are for me some of the most need it features.
Yes, I often type in the text of my review that I really meant 3.5 stars or something like that! And uploading pictures takes forever.A readathon sounds like a great way to start the year. Maybe I could knock out a few year-long challenge books. I procrastinated on the Popsugar challenge this year and now I have more Popsugar books left than I have books left in my normal 2016 challenge. Oops!
I really like the idea of 24 in 48...actually that sounds like my vacations! I would love to know when that happens. Those read-a-thons where actually my inspiration for the marathon challenges we have been doing through out the year. I will not stay awake for 24 hours anymore by choice; I don't care what the good cause, so reading for that long is out of the question for me. Kudos to those that can do it.
When you click on a book, you can see on the right, which genre other readers has categorized it as: thriller, YA, classic and so on.Have you created shelves for your categories?
I have done this now, but I have named them slightly differently, f.ex. genre-fiction, genre-scifi. Do you know if the categories are counted from shelf-names? Then I suspect that mine do not count...
Or do you actually categorize books somewhere completely different???
My books aren't categorized by genre, but maybe they should be. Might improve recommendations. I have a couple shelfs for books I particularly liked in certain genres just for the purpose of recommendations, so maybe that's a habit I'll get into for all books next year. Good idea!
Mie wrote: "Have you created shelves for your categories?I have done this now, but I have named them slightly differently, f.ex. genre-fiction, genre-scifi...."
Hey, you have the same shelf-naming system as I do! XD
I do believe that the genre to the right is the result of a 'members shelve this book as...' and then they show you the most common. If you click the header, it should take you to a more complete listing.
Is anyone else a little confused/bothered by the Goodreads Choice Awards? 2016 isn't over, what about the books to be published the rest of the year? Wouldn't it make more sense to do the 2016 awards in January (of 2017) so that we all have a chance to read some of the nominees we are interested in?
From what i understand books that are published later in the year can take part in next year's voting.

It's definitely the case! It says in the rules and eligibility that you can find from here on the left: https://www.goodreads.com/choiceaward... that anything published after November 16th (so next Wednesday) will be eligible for next year's awards. :)

It's definitely..."
Awesome! Thank you!
The trailer for the film adaptation of Before I Fall just came out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3Zyy... is someone willing to see it? Seems as a good adaptation
Has anyone seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? Several of my coworkers said it was great, so I'm hoping to see it after Thanksgiving.I'd love to hear your thoughts (but please mark spoilers!)
Cassandra Beaulaurier I haven't seen it yet but have also heard good reviews from friends who have! I'm so excited to go see it soon though!
Cassandra wrote: "Has anyone seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? Several of my coworkers said it was great, so I'm hoping to see it after Thanksgiving."I've seen it yesterday and I absolutely loved it!

I saw it over the weekend and loved it. It's probably my favourite film of the year and I actually preferred it to the Harry Potter film series. It felt like the series had grown up as we get to see more of the wizard world outside of Hogwarts and I think that's why I prefer it. I also really liked most of the characters, especially Newt and Graves.
I really liked Fantastic Beasts, at first it felt like something was missing because our route into the Wizarding world was Hogwarts but once I got settled in I just adored it. I loved most of the characters and actors - I'm not usually a Colin Farrell fan (actually I really dislike him) but I think he was amazing in this.I think growing up with Hogwarts, all the films and books were timed perfectly for me while being an adult now this film has come at the perfect time.
I just saw it tonight and I loved it!! I agree with Stefani, I wasn't sure at first whether I was going to like it but it ended up being so good. The casting is excellent, I thought. Eddie Redmayne was adorable!
Caro wrote: "The trailer for the film adaptation of Before I Fall just came out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3Zyy... is someone willing to see it? I was never interested in reading the book despite the good reviews but I'll see the movie.
I was excited to see Fantastic Beasts but now that Johnny Depp is going to be in the sequel (and have a major role) my interest instantly dropped.
Sandy wrote: "Caro wrote: "The trailer for the film adaptation of Before I Fall just came out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3Zyy... is someone willing to see it? Seems as a good adaptation"..."
I haven't see Fantastic Beasts and sadly I will not be able to see it .... But I readBefore I Fall from a TBR twins when we did not have a book in common and I must admit that I really like it... I would not select it by myself but was really good...
I am a wait till it comes out on video kind of girl when it comes to movies, but I think that's a Gen X phrase now. What is the new phrase; come out on DVD? BlueRay?I've been thinking about that a lot lately because I have been seeing the debates between the Baby Boomers and the Millennials. I am straight up Generation X. I love old school books and libraries, but I have embraced my Kindle and online forums with gusto like Goodreads. I often feel like I'm peacemaker.
Where do you all stand on the debate?
