Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Happy Thanksgiving! Most of my Florida family comes together at my parents' house on the west coast of FL. We walk in the turkey trot in the morning, have dinner, then hit the black Thursday/Friday sales.

Zara's Corner | 2365 comments Happy Thanksgiving to you all from me. In Australia we don't have Thanksiving festival. Apart from Christmas day we celebrate New Year's Day by staying up until midnight and a lot of people - not us - have big boozy parties and the like. Then after this celebration we have Australia Day so nothing really exciting.

Patricia Meyer (euxxth) | 105 comments have a great Thanksgiving! I live in Canada so we had our Thanksgiving a month ago but still, may your plates be overflowing and your family get along :)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments It's so cool to hear what everyone's up to!

message 505: by Merja (new)

Merja (merjafrob) | 488 comments Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it! We in Finland don't celebrate it. Next big celebration is our independence day in December 6th when our president hosts big and fancy reception where he has invited veterans, athletes, actors, big names, ... and it's shown on TV. I like to watch it because of the fancy dresses women wear. And after the independence day we wait Christmas and New Year's Eve.

But this weekend will be nice. Today I'm going to read, read, read while my husband plays Fallout 4. Tomorrow me and my husband are going to see new 007 and have some delicious food in some restaurant. Date night ♥ ♥ ♥ On Sunday, .. don't know yet what happens then. Hopefully something nice.

Sounds so nice :) Of course we in Norway doesn't celebrate it either, although I like the name, we need a celebration here that reminds us to be thankful I think.

I'm gonna read a lot too and we will be gaming magic the gathering with a friend today. We are gamers too, but I read more now because of healthissues. It's read-a-thon time in another group, so maybe I can finally wrap up The Lord of the Rings:) What will you read do you think?

I'm currently reading Devil wears Prada, so at least that. But don't know what book I read after that if I get it finished.

Me and my husband are both pc gamers (and book nerds too of course) and we have only one PC to play with so we have to take turns. Sometimes it's frustrating because we both want to play same game and of course same time..Then again it's good that we only have one PC so that I get to read :D

Winter (winter9) | 5010 comments What do you like to play? :)

message 509: by Merja (new)

Merja (merjafrob) | 488 comments Winter wrote: "What do you like to play? :)"

Fallout 4, Skyrim, Sims 4, .. Used to play WoW but it took all my money and time :D

message 510: by Karina (new)

Karina (karinargh) | 807 comments Don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Norway, no, but we have apparently imported the Black Friday sales... so I can be thankful for having acquired a bunch of warm wool clothing at half price to see me through the winter, I guess. :3

Oh, and I actually happened to eat turkey for dinner. Green thai chili turkey. Probably not the appropriate festive kind of turkey!

Norway^^ yeah, bo idea when we imported that one. Sales are nice, but I'd rather have thanksgiving with family and everything, sounds so nice:)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Ooh, Karina, green Thai chili turkey sounds super interesting.

message 515: by Alisia (new)

Alisia (meniali) | 248 comments I saw that the 2016 Popsugar Challenge has been made, is that something we will do as an official group challenge this year? Just a thought... :).

There is something about a bookstore that makes me happy, but I do love looking on Amazon.com for books.
I find so many great books in their used section for a penny ($4.00 with shipping).

message 517: by Alisia (new)

Alisia (meniali) | 248 comments Does anyone else check Goodreads a million times a day!? I need to get a grip! Go do your laundry and listen to a book Alisia!

message 518: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I totally do, Alisia. Sometimes it's sort of ridiculous, because I think "I should be reading!" but it's fun too. :)

message 519: by Caro (new)

Caro (karopi) | 995 comments Yes happens to me... I am pretty sure that I will read more if I do not spend so much tie here... But is the facebook for Bookworms so...

message 520: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariah90602) | 2287 comments Yes, you are not alone Alisia.

message 521: by Alisia (new)

Alisia (meniali) | 248 comments Seriously guys :), it's way better than Facebook! Glad I'm not alone :) :) :)

message 522: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments No, I totally check it when I'm home much more than facebook. But I dislike the app, so when I'm at work, I never check the app.

Zara's Corner | 2365 comments Alisia wrote: "Does anyone else check Goodreads a million times a day!? I need to get a grip! Go do your laundry and listen to a book Alisia!"

Yep me! In fact I haven't been on FB as frequently lately - just feel I don't want to be. GoodReads is so much better.

message 524: by Karina (new)

Karina (karinargh) | 807 comments ...I only use FB to follow updates from publishers, authors, and... various sources of cat pictures. :p So GR tends to involve more actual communication, albeit fewer cats.

message 525: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Here's a cat! :-P (You can see it in my profile picture)
I'm not really a Facebook fan, and I'm currently taking a pause from it, I just login once or twice a week to see if there's anything of importance going on.
But Goodreads is something different! It involves much more actual communication, as Karina says. I couldn't do without it, I think I'm a GR addict :-D

message 526: by Merja (new)

Merja (merjafrob) | 488 comments And here's one GR addict too! I check this many times during a day, even when at school.

message 527: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments Hey, I want to show my cats too! I just changed my profile picture. :)

message 528: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Awww, Catherine *__* The one on the right looks so much like my beloved cat Tristano, who passed away some years ago.

message 529: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments I'm sorry for your loss!! Mine are named Puck and Finn. They are brothers from the same litter of cats.

message 530: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments ... I'm thinking someone should start a topic sharing pictures of their pets. :)

message 531: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 5010 comments Absolutely, probably so many cute pets here ^^ my girl is sleeping beside right now, she likes spending around half the night with me :)

message 532: by Karina (new)

Karina (karinargh) | 807 comments Ha! Awesome book-cat, Marina! And Catherine's cats are awwdoreableeee.

I'm a catlady, for sure - except I live in a third-floor apt that isn't well fit for a cat. It sucks, because I was basically raised by a gang of giant forest cats, and now I have all these instincts to stockpile tuna tins and (lactose-free, cat-friendly) cream and no one to benefit from it. Woe!

message 533: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I'm 100% a cat person too! This is an old pic me and mine reading in the garden.

(It's a rare one because he doesn't normally go on a leash.)

message 534: by Laurie (new)

Laurie I love that we have all these cat lovers here which I am as well. My profile picture is of my cat, Fraidy. I enjoy seeing other people's pet pictures.

message 535: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments I love all these cat pictures!! Nice to be among fellow cat lovers. It's funny that a lot of my reading addict friends are cat lovers :)

message 536: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments That's such a great picture, Kara! Sunshine, books, and cats... What more could you want?

I need to take a more current photo of my dog, Ziva, and post it.

message 537: by [deleted user] (new)

Aww! I am loving all these cat pictures! :) I am a cat person too. I also cannot own one in my apartment though. I do have a turtle and a bunch of fish, that is as close as I can get until I move to a cat-accepting place!

message 538: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments I waited a long time to own a pet. I had a friend that I dog-sat for a lot, and her dog passed away and I was devastated. But in a weird way that is what pushed me to finally get pets of my own. Animals love so unconditionally. Ugh, I'm a sap!!

message 539: by Caro (new)

Caro (karopi) | 995 comments I love pets but for sure I am more a cat person than other thing... I even let waiting a guy that I was dating for 15 because I found a cat in the street and bought him some food and pet him. The guy was not amuse but I had the cat purring at me so that set it up...

message 540: by Alex (new)

Alex Shelby (jynxmecrazie) | 277 comments Huge cat person here too! In fact, one of my three cats is sleeping on me as I type this :)
Dogs are a very close second though.

message 541: by Zara's Corner (new)

Zara's Corner | 2365 comments I love the idea Catherine had of a thread where we can post piccies of cat friends/babies. I too love cats. We have two - one is my daughter's and is psycho but so gorgeous when she's smoochy and the the other is supposed to be mine but he's more the whole family's. He moults all year round and is such a sook you can hit him over the head (not too hard obviously) with a book and he'll start purring. He really loves being roughed up. He's a ginger tabby and the other one is a mackeral tabby.

message 542: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments I think it was Cassandra's idea to start a new thread! It is a good idea! I just need to figure out how to do it!

message 543: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments We can post photos in the group. Maybe that could be our gallery. The Challenge Pets.

message 544: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments I made us a thread!

message 545: by Zara's Corner (new)

Zara's Corner | 2365 comments Excellent.

My apologies to Cassandra. I meant to write Cassandra.

message 546: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Kara, that is a very cute picture. You and your cat both look wonderful :-)

message 547: by Karina (new)

Karina (karinargh) | 807 comments Wow, I love the goodreads desktop makeover. It looks SO much cleaner now!

message 548: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I do too, Karina. :)

Note for anyone experiencing problems with the new fonts: It sounds like there is a problem with the new layout on some browsers, making the font blurry or otherwise poor quality. Goodreads is aware of this and is working to fix it! Hopefully it doesn't affect too many of you in the meantime.

message 549: by [deleted user] (new)

This is why websites are supposed to do testing on all browsers before doing a big update like this. I feel like they don't have very good tech staff working on this...that is pretty basic web design. I personally am not a fan of the new layout but I guess I will get used to it. Mainly I don't like the font but I also don't like the blue text.

message 550: by Cassandra (last edited Dec 15, 2015 12:30PM) (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I agree that they released a bit prematurely. I work in technology, and since Goodreads is an Amazon company you would think that they would know better. But Amazon has released new content with typos and other problems before. It looks like maybe deadlines are more important than quality, which is unfortunate.

I don't know that I love the blue color, but I like that there is much better contrast on links, especially since I use text and book links all the time.
