I'm in...purchased this book ages ago but haven't read it. Happy New Year everyone!!

message 8: by Kim (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments I just started my reread. As soon as I am about three chapters in, I'll post some comments.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I started this morning. I posted my first impressions on my blog: http://meanderingtales.booklikes.com/...-

message 10: by Kim (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Okay, so now I've read the first three chapters, and I am having a hard time liking Khela and Carter. I can't quite put my finger on just why. I think I had the same reaction the first time I read it too.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm about 25% in and I don't like Khela at all...I'm still on the fence about pretty boy Carter.

Tamekia | 87 comments Happy New Year! I read this book last year and I couldn't get into it- it took 2 more attempts for me to complete it. The dialogue was stiff and boring, and it just didn't hold my interest. I did eventually finish it but- wow, there was no sizzle or chemistry for me. This was my least favorite book by this author- she has some much better work.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I finished it. To be honest I skimmed a bit thru the last 1/3 just to get to the end.

This was my first book by this author so I didn't know what to expect. I didn't hate the story's premise but the execution just wasn't my cuppa. The writing was long winded at points...lots of superfluous descriptions that didn't add to the story and the characters were mostly caricatures and over the top. Khela's and Carter's issues were hard to empathize with so they just came off as whiny brats who were too successful and too pretty for their own good. I agree with Tamekia, barely any chemistry or sizzle for me either!

Uh-oh. I have a paperback copy. I'll get it out this weekend and join in.

Justice (justnice0409) | 10 comments O.M.G. This book gave me a complex! I wanted to fight Kela! She was so shallow and just NEVER seem to progress. At times, the writing focused more on descriptions of irrelevant items than the storyline. I did not like this book one bit. I've read other books but Crystal Hubbard and liked them (I think) but this one, was not a good read.

G.S. Carr (gscarr) | 41 comments Just purchased the book. I'm a few pages in. So far I'm not jumping for joy, but keeping an open mind. I don't understand while Kala thinks Carter is so beneath her.

G.S. Carr (gscarr) | 41 comments Even if he was a maintenance man only, why does that warranty him being poor or something. He could own a cleaning company, maintenance person doesn't automatically mean poor.

G.S. Carr (gscarr) | 41 comments And he just lets her think that. That baffles me. I would put her in her place.

I didnt understand why he let Khela believe he was just a super/repairman and not the building owner either. Carter wanted to be seen for more than just his handsome face but he did nothing to help his case, IMO.

Yes he could have been seen as more than a handsome face without letting her talk down/think less of him. But I must keep reading to see if something unfolds to justify both of their attitudes.

Let us know when you find that ;) I had trouble seeing it honestly.

Haha. Will do :)

message 24: by Kim (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments So now I have finished reading Mr. Fix-It. I had a very difficult time connecting with either character. I didn't really feel any chemistry between Carter and Khela. And I had a hard time envisioning what their future together (once the book ended) would be.

I want to believe that he is wanting to say something but he so astonish by her ego that he is rendered speechless. LMBO. Every time I read something she said, I had to exhale loudly and roll my eyes.

I actually started reading it, and finished today. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, Khela got on my nerves more than a little bit, and I wanted to slap Carter for tolerating the abuse, but I liked that race wasn't an issue.

message 27: by Darlene (new)

Darlene | 1 comments I brought this book when it first came out. It was a nice 'winter' read, but nothing I would like to read again. I found Khela to be boring and too self center.

message 28: by Salliewt (new) - added it

Salliewt | 24 comments Read this one years ago but read it again. Khela, on first impression, comes off as very self-centered and unlikable. Think she's insecure at heart but wants to project a certain image so she tries to push everyone into little boxes to fit that image. For example, the way she used Carter, who let himself be used at first. She was the bigwig who couldn't get a date, but needed a certain type of date to be seen with. Kept wondering why they put up with each other. Romance seemed kind of stilted and phony to start. Got better but not the easiest read.
