I'm right on track! Surprisingly! This year has been so busy for me. I woulda swore I'd be behind by now. Plus I've been reading lots of chunksters this year as well, which slows me down a bit. We will see how long I can go before I get behind.
Linda wrote: "Congrats on being close to reaching your goal so soon"Thank you! I may add more, I haven't decided. I presume that if you increase your goal, all of the covers of the books you have already read stay all lined up? I love seeing them like that, and I have never increased my goal before. Last year I was about 20 short @ 100 out of 120, so I lowered my total. I don't want to lose all those covers if I add more to the goal, once I reach the 72.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! Happy reading!
This has been a slow reading year for me due to job hunting and moving. I'm planning on reducing my reading goal from 110 books to about 75 books. I think that's a more reachable goal for me right now.
I decided to double my goal from 100 to 200. I went from being quite far ahead to quite far behind. :-P
I have to be honest I am an always reading. But I don't count my books as I read. I find that is to competitive for me. But in the spirit of things and the group i will do so and beginning the count in this year reading my books. Rough estimation I have read 25 books this year I think but i am still reading. And if you throw in some audio book I've listened to that number goes up to 30-45 books have been read by me.
I am presently on schedule: 115 of 150 books or 77% or 46 books ahead. I have made allowances for the World Cup and the upcoming NFL season. I will probably increase my goal (as I have done the last four years) to 200 but not yet...I don't want to bite off more than I can chew and reading under pressure takes some of the fun out of the endeavor.
I just finished reading Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh. Loved this book. I read15 books in June, 2014. Am 4 books behind schedule to meeting my goal of 212 books for this year.
June was not a very good reading month for me. I had three DNFs. But I'm still 10 books ahead so I guess all is not lost. :)
Read 112 and DNF'd 32 of my 150 book goal.Doing way better than I thought.
Figured one book every 2/3 days was a good goal - I may need to up that.
This is the best year of reading that I have had in a VERY long time. I have currently read 49 books toward my goal of 65 which has put me 17 books ahead. Now, considering last year I did not come remotely close to my goal maybe going over would be a good thing.
I'm 58 of 125 and behind 4. I actually read more last year, not sure why I seem to be struggling this year. Oh wait, too many new programs on TV that I like! LOL
Im kinda late but my goal is 60 ... I have never done a challenge so since its my first I'll start low... But Im also 6 books behind haha good thing I have a week off of work coming :) haha

The past few years I've been doing themed ones on my blog, but can't keep interesting in too many themed ones on groups for some reason.
I've found having the challenges has kept me from falling into a rut of too many of the same genre and actually end up reading more.
I am not doing too well this year. I am still 3 ahead, but I just don't seem to be in he reading mood much.
I am ten books away from meeting my revised goal of 200. With football just around the corner my time will be more limited (I'm not a multitasker) so I will be satisfied in putting on some whipped cream and maybe even a cherry on top.
I finished my goal really early this year, but mainly because I was trying to clear so many off my shelves that were short. Just trying to make the overall (not this years challenge) more manageable. I really have no ambition to raise the Goodreads yearly goal, though, too much pressure number wise and I'm concentrating more on mini-goals right now.Like some of you, I've hit a slight reading slump though.
I have finished 129 books so far. Reading #130 now. I am currently running 5 books behind the pace I should be on. As I was 10 behind, I am making some progress catching up. I got behind when I took on driving my Mom to her daily radiation treatments for 6 weeks. Took me 1/2 a day, 5 days a week. Surgery is looming in near future. Hoping I can still meet my goal if 212 books for the year, but not going to cry if I don't. Like Thom said, football is right around the corner. I love watching sports and reading. Re-plays mean I never miss a big play, lol.
You're a woman.... multitasking is second nature to you. I can't focus on more than one thing at a time so in football season I focus on football. I'm a diehard Cowboys fan and have always supported the Oregon Ducks.
I'm a woman too and multi-tasking most certainly is not something I can do. I cannot read with the sound on on the television. And apparently people tend to do things much better if they do focus on one thing at a time. The "multi-tasking" that fighter pilots do is in fact switching your focus from one thing to another every few seconds and then back again.
Actually read this awhile back, I wish I could remember where... People who think they are good at multitasking, are actually the worst at it. It seems the converse is true as well, if you think you're terrible at multitasking, you're actually better than average at it.
Goal is 50. I could actually go at 100 but I am making sure that I would at least put a review on the 50 books I've read for 2014 before moving or changing it to 100 D:

I watch some NFL but in the Deep South College Football is king. I am also a big fan of Atlanta Braves baseball, probably watch 150 of their 162 games per season. How do you manage to watch American football from where you live?
This is the twenty-first century. For years all I could get was AM radio from AFN Europe. On good evenings I could decipher the broadcast but occasionally the static interference won the battle. Now I record some NFL games on Fox and watch any NCAA or NFL game on my computer. Each year the world seems to be getting smaller and enjoying those things I knew in my youth is easier.
I have added on to my challenge twice, and surpassed it twice. I guess I didn't give myself enough credit!

Did not even think about you using computer to watch. I am almost totally deaf and must have closed captioning to watch tv. One of the reasons I watch so much football and baseball, I know what is going on without sound or CC
Tamara wrote: "I have added on to my challenge twice, and surpassed it twice. I guess I didn't give myself enough credit!"That is wonderful. If you sign up for 2015 you will be better able to predict. Happy reading.
currently I am lagging so I really need to pull my finger to get onto track. I am like 8 books behind schedule
If you are close to reaching that goal, you certainly have time to increase and then reach the new goal. With just a little over 4 months left in 2014, I would suggest looking back to see how many you have read each month over the last 8 months and let that guide you. Good luck.
Not all books can be compared. 150 pages don't match up with 950 books but I do understand your logic.
That is correct but most people tend to like either short books or really long books. Me personally, I don't like to read books with less than 300 pages but I don't decide to read just based on number of pages. Most of mine are probably 275 to 425 pages.
I read all sorts and all lengths. I only care about the story. But I also love comics. For example, I have loved Garfield ever since I was a little girl. Same with Peanuts and Footrot Flats (A New Zealand comic strip about a border collie and his life on the farm. It's super funny). I have used these to beef up my book challenge and I am not ashamed to say so. :)
I'm now five books away from my two hundred book goal. I also like longer books more than short ones but I read them both. With an average of twenty-five new books every day I have been reading a lot of eBooks on my Kindle. I'm not going to increase my 2014 goal but just put on a large whipped cream topping and a red cherry on top.

I may not like short books but I do read some. Some of the series that I follow have novellas that are a part of the storyline and I have to read them so as not to miss out on that segment of the overall story. I think that graphic stories are still stories. I think if you want to count them you should.
