I started with a goal of 35 I may increase it later depending how much I have been reading this year really. :)
Last year I set my goal at 200 books and I read 191 so I think i will set it at 200 again and see if I get to that mark this year.
250? You've got to be kidding! I'd never get anything done.I usually average a hundred a year but last year only got 74 read. Stupid GRs challenge app has me at 37 since rereads don't count. :(

I think that's BS that rereads don't count. I get around that by just marking picture books I've read with the date I reread the other book. That way I get credit for reading two books even if one of them was really just read twice.

I am going to try to read 75 again. I am going to try to reread several books so I guess I will just delete the books from the original read date - hopefully that will work.

Mary, I suggest you don't delete them from their previous date because that will remove it from previous years' challenges totals. Use a "dummy" book, a title you read long long ago and don't think you will reread again. I find picture books and classics are good for this.

i feel lame i only got back into reading last year and set my goal at 12 and made it to 15 this year i am going for 18
I do not set a goal. I read 9 less books in 2013 than the previous year. I wonder what this year will bring...
I'm aiming lower this year. Setting my sights on 125.I've changed the dates on books that I've reread and it did not change my previous year total. (I also note the first read date in my private notes, just so I don't forget)
Last year I lowered my usual 75 a year to 60, because I knew I'd be busy with an international move then traveling a lot. But this year looks pretty calm, so raised it back to my yearly 75.
I found myself reading too many shorter books last year, in order to keep up with various challenges - so this year I'm planning to read fewer but longer books! I have quite a few "bricks" of 500-1200 pages I want to read.

They are books that I read a long, long time ago when I was in my 20's and 30's. They are on my list but not on my challenges.
I went for 52 last year and made 120 but just in case Life rears its ugly head this year will again start at 52 and just up my game - I got around the re-read by taking away original date and claiming it as a new read- I have only done three of the challenges so it didn't effect the previous challenge numbers- good idea to put in a book not read for previous challenges and use that:)
You know I'm thinking you could get around the reread thing by choosing to review a different edition of the book too.
I'm reading 30 books, not a lot compared to what other people are reading but I don't want to stress myself out so...*shrugs*
Taylor wrote: "I am in awe of you 100+ books a year people! How do you do it?"Various ways. Reading fast, reading through commute and other travel, reading through lunch breaks at work. Spending less time on the internet and spending more time reading. And for some of us... having barely any social life. ;-)
I've set 80 books as my initial goal. Depending how well I read I will keep updating it throughout the year.
I'm aiming for 65 books this year. I read 60 books exactly last year, and I'm confident I can do 65 this time, even if some books from my to-read list are pretty big.
I'm aiming for 30. I've never set a years reading goal before, and I've learned I have to be patient sometimes. Life as a college student with 4 kids doesn't leave much time for my recreational reading. Now that my daughter has learned to read, I'm reading 3 children's books a night, and at this rate we could easily hit 1000, but she's 6, so I'm thinking that won't really count. I do have to say this, even though I may not get to all my to-read books, watching her fall in love with reading has been one of the biggest joys for us. She's even started to write her own books (I'm sorry, I can't help gushing, it's just I'm such a proud Mamma).

I didn't make my goal of 65 in 2013, so I decided to stick with the same number of books for 2014. Life does get in the way and if I enjoy what I read I don't care how many get completed, but it is fun to try.

This year I again have 75 but I have decided that I am not going to stress again. I am just going to read and enjoy my books.
I've been looking through my friend's challenges today and there are some people who have already read 10 or 11 books this year. Oh how I wish I read that fast.
Shannon wrote: "You know I'm thinking you could get around the reread thing by choosing to review a different edition of the book too."I did that last year, worked fine if you are not too OCD about the 'correct' edition… I must admit it did give me a slight pang! :-O
Good luck with your challenges everyone - mine will be a non-numbered type; to not elevate my 'to-read' pile too much, and to reduce it if I can avoid the lure of the bookshop somewhat better than I did last year.
So I ended January 1 book ahead of schedule. It could have been more but it took me forever to finish the last book I was reading. Oh well, hopefully I can keep up the momentum through February.

Oops! Kind of put a space there, didn't I. :-)

Works nicely read either way, doesn't it? :-)

Well it gets worse. One month later and now I'm 5 books behind!! Good thing I have plenty of time to get caught up.
