What Else Are You Reading - January 2014
I finished Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe, which wasn't much. I read Infinity Blade Awakening, which was pretty good. I just started The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.
I finished reading Blood of Dragons (My Review) and started reading Dust of Dreams and continuing with Dangerous Women at a much slower pace than I'd like.
I also finished listening to Leviathan Wakes (My Review) and immediately jumped into Caliban's War

I finished Against the Fall of Night, and after 700 pages of (literal) Byzantine intrigues I'm ready for something lighter -- Swordsmen and Supermen.
Just finished The Man in the High Castle and Throne of the Crescent Moon, neither of which I thought was anything special. I will see if I can get the Feb S&L pick from the library this week.
Today, I finished the Kindle Serial, The Dragon Business by Kevin J. Anderson. I thought it was pretty terrible, but humor is subjective. I also finished Roadside Picnic. I really enjoyed that one. It was published in the Seventies, but didn't seem dated at all. I'm really enjoying listening to Hard Magic by Larry Correia. It's narrated by Bronson Pinchot. He's a really good choice for books with multiple characters. I have about 4 hours to go, so I should finish tomorrow. I'm not sure what my next audiobook will be. I have a bookshelf of my audiobook backlog if anyone wants to make a suggestion.

Half way in and I'm really liking it. A fast paced story that sucked me in right from the start. What's the audio equivalent of page turner? It's that anyhow :)
@ SandyI really liked the Great North Road, really really a whole lot. But it's a very long police procedural mystery that might not be everyone's cup of tea.
Outlander is a favorite which is soon going to be a series on Starz so reading that might be good now so you can join in with all the fangirl squeeing every time a new picture from the set is released :)
Island in the Sea of Time is good. I dunno about the narration though as I've only read it.
But really, I think you should listen to Rebecca. Not SFF, but very good, and the movie is great too.
I've been making my way through Anne Perry's Victorian mystery series with Charlotte and Thomas Pitt, I think I'm up to book 15 out of 25 or something.Just got The Golem and the Jinni, going to start listening to that tonight after I listen to the new podcast.

I told you he doesn't do that in the US. He does do the Blade Itself trilogy though and Red Country from what I've seen though.
I will say though that the book was enjoyable and that Michael Page does fine as a reader.

I've tried twice to listen to Best Served Cold, but I haven't been able to get through it. I don't really like Michael Page's narration. I have the ebook, so I may have to read it the old-fashioned way.
I love Glory Season. I went to a signing for it when it came out. I think David Brin was impressed with the way I answered the questions he asked the audience. He wrote something really nice and relevant in my copy.

Lol - now I have a face to match the voice - I don't think it's a good thing
I finished The Man From Primrose Lane which was quite entertaining, I rated it 3.5 stars. I would recommend to those who like murder mysteries that have a nice twist that you don't see coming. Be cautious reading about the book becuase you don't want to be spoiled.
Lol - now I have a face to match the voice - I don't think it's a good thingWell, no, Steven Pacey http://www.audiofilemagazine.com/gvpa... isn't Stephen Pearcy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_... , but it is an entertaining juxtaposition.

If you do it in less than 9 months, you beat Tom.

Actually pay attention to all the North 'A' names. They are very similar. It's a long-ass book. My review. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Actually Hamilton has a lot of convoluted plots. Maybe you need a notebook. :)

I think I prefer the original photo Tam posted.
Finished Swordsmen and Supermen (it was only 120 pages) and started The Sleeping God by Violette Malan.

Maybe I should be reading the ebook. Sadly, my backlog of ebooks is much, much longer than my backlog of audiobooks. I did listen to Pandora's Star and the entire Void trilogy, so I can handle Hamilton in audio. On the other hand, you do need to take notes for Alastair Reynolds.
I finished Silverthorn and Second Shift: Order. I'm nearly finished with A Tale for the Time Being and am following those up with A Darkness At Sethanon, Third Shift: Pact and The Summer Tree.
I didn't need notes for GNR, by the time all the different North names really mattered I had them figured out. It is a complicated story, but very interesting. And I thought the narrator was very good.
Just got A Wizard of Earthsea from the library, so I'm good to go for the S&L February read. At just under 200 pages it's going to be another quick read.
Tamahome wrote: "Maybe we should pick a thicker book next. I don't know...Great North Road?"Words of Radiance :)
Today, I started the second book in Bradley P. Beaulieu's Lays of Anuskaya series, The Straits of Galahesh.
Finally finished Pandora's Star (my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...). Now on to Judas Unchained.
I would follow Dara's reviews if I was allowed. :(I know what Jenny is reading because she has a new podcast about it. :) http://readingenvy.blogspot.com/2014/...
I finished up the first three books in the Wild Rain Chronicles, which I thought got worse and more and more predictable as the books went on.

I fixed it! You can follow them now. :-)
Started Emperor of Thorns. Liked the first, not so much the second, so I'm hoping he brings it home.
I finished The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms and enjoyed it. I started King of Ragtime Scott Joplin and His Era.
Finished Romulus Buckle the City of the FoundersMy review
Starting Ghost Story The Dresden Files 13 (not on Audible this time because James Marsters isn't the narrator and that's just not right)
I finished rereading The Einstein Intersection, which I enjoyed. I also finally finished The Republic of Thieves, the third Gentleman Bastards book, which I also enjoyed. I'm lemming The Spirit Thief after 50 pages, from the off the shelf/alphabetical challenge, for failing to engage me.
I picked up Dangerous Women at the library and What Makes This Book So Great at the bookstore.
Tamahome wrote: "B&N had What Makes This Book So Great?"Looks like it just came out this past Tuesday.
Listened to the first half hour of An Evening With Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer, a couple of shorts and a poem or two so far.
Finished House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds on AudibleMy review
Continuing with another Reynolds on Audible Terminal World
Reading the stories in The Hugo Winners Vol. 5, I've come across George R.R. Martin's "Sand Kings." I remember reading this one when it was first published in Omni. Every bit as creepy as I remember.
I finished listening to Caliban's War and really enjoyed it. (My Review)
I snuck in the Riyria short story The Jester (My Review) before jumping into Abaddon's Gate.

I'm a big fan of everything James SA Corey/Daniel Abraham. I'd check out his fantasy series if you haven't already. Both the Long Price Quartet and the ongoing Dagger & Coin series are amazing in my opinion. The Long Price Quartet has a really unique magic system.

I finished it and enjoyed it. I added a review to it as well.
