Pam Williams | 156 comments Just finished a great beach read, The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress. I'm starting Eleanor & Park because it's THE BOOK on all the young adult lists. Looking forward to a sweet (but probably sad) romance.

message 852: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (the_librocubicultarist) I'm currently reading La infiel because a friend recommended the author.

I'm also reading Todo lo que podríamos haber sido tú y yo si no fueramos tú y yo because I read a book from the same author a few days ago and liked it. Trying to figure out if he is one hit wonder (for me) or if he becomes a fav author =)

message 853: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments I finished American Gods for the buddy read and for the chunkster challenge. It has been a while since I took part of any of the monthly challenges, so I decided to give it a shot with the library one. I am reading Real Murders, mostly because it's short and I saw from some of the comments that it fits the challenge requirements. It is a cozy mystery - exactly what I needed after American Gods. Something simple and short :)

After a few months of being on the waiting list for Gone Girl: A Novel (they only have single copies), my turn finally came. So I will be reading it after I finish the library challenge. If I manage to finish Gone Girl on time, I might join for Neverwhere for the group read.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Neverwhere for the group read. I really enjoyed it, it is my favourite Neil Gaiman book so far and I gave it 5 stars.

I am continuing with A Game of Thrones which is fantastic so far!

message 855: by Esther (new)

Esther (estame) I am reading The Undertaking which was just short-listed for the Bailey's Prize for Women's Fiction. It's not like anything I've read before because it is so dialogue heavy. I think it deserves it's place on the list, from what I've read so far (almost finished).

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments I am reading Books by Larry McMurtry for YLTO!'s April Challenge. I think it would be much more interesting were I a Book Seller or Scout. A lot of name dropping of people in the business.

Gonna see if The Literary Life and Other Curiosities by Robert Hendrickson is any better for me after I've finished.

Took some library pictures, just waiting to see which book I decide to submit.

message 858: by Almeta (last edited Apr 11, 2014 04:54PM) (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Finished reading for the Chunkster and Left Over Stew Challenges:
Baptism for the Dead (Moroni Traveler), Robert Irvine
and
Slow Dancing with the Angel of Death (A Sam and Hollis Mystery), Helen Chappell

Finished Books by Larry McMurtry for YLTO!'s April Challenge.

I may have to rethink my Toppler books, since my proposed books are next up to be read...and it is too early in the month.

Starting The Literary Life and Other Curiosities by Robert Hendrickson, then I'll have to see.

Roz | 4528 comments I took a short break and read The Bookman's Tale for the Library Snapshot Challenge. Wonderfully book. It's historical, a mystery, has intrigue, and a love story all rolled into one. I'll get a review done soon.

Jealous! I have it on my Chunkster list, but am unwilling to pull it out of order.

message 861: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1254 comments I'm finally going to start reading Andersonville. It's one of those books that I know is going to be good, but it's so long that I've been reluctant to start it. Yay for the Chunkster Challenge! It finally got me motivated to get this down from my shelves! (And it's been there a long, long time!)

It's really good and I think you'll like it. It's a wonderful book for anyone loves books and collects them. I found out a lot about book binding along the way, too.

I have this one on my Chunkster list too. But it is long!

message 864: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm reading Warbreaker. I'm using it for the chunkster challenge and for the monthly read. I'm enjoying it so far!

message 865: by Cherie (last edited Apr 14, 2014 08:42PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I started Middlesex this morning. I have it in paperback, but I noticed it was available on audio from my library and the narration sounded good, so I downloaded it.

message 866: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I finished Swan Song. You know it's a 5 star read when you don't want the story to end (even though it was 960 pages long.

I'm going to start a re-read of Crocodile on the Sandbank tomorrow. I was kind of distracted when I first read it and always thought that I should re-read it at some point. I need to fill in a short, light read before I tackle Fingersmith this weekend, and Crocodile fills the bill.

message 867: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Your crocodile book sounds like fun, Janice.

I'll be interested to know what you think of this one, Cherie. I added it to my Around the USA Challenge (and I now have the book), so I hope it's good!

message 869: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I have to read this for the chunksters too, so I will also be paying attention.

message 870: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Cherie wrote: "Your crocodile book sounds like fun, Janice."

I do recall that there was a lot of light hearted banter between Amelia and the professor that had me giggling before, so I'm looking forward to this read. After Swan Song, something light is much preferred.

message 871: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I started Lady Audley's Secret for a buddy read.

I am also still working my way through A Game of Thrones and loving every single second of it!

message 872: by Pam (new)

Pam Williams | 156 comments I finished my young adult book Eleanor & Park and it was so good. Great book about first love! Just starting Twelve Years a Slave for next month's book club.

message 873: by Mari (new)

Mari Cherie wrote: "I started Middlesex this morning. I have it in paperback, but I noticed it was available on audio from my library and the narration sounded good, so I downloaded it."

I bought this book to read Cherie, and got a little bored with it about 40% in. I put it down, and it annoyed me that the drive wasn't there to pick it back up. I rented the audiobook for my commute to work, and I not only finished it, but I liked it. I just think that the reader of the audiobook was better than my narration, lol! I'm really glad I listened to it. The reader gave a lot of personality to the characters.

Lilisa | 2770 comments Finished The Invention of Wings. My review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Worth the read.

Sarah | 18549 comments Lilisa wrote: "Finished The Invention of Wings. My review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Worth the read."

Great review Lilisa! I won this a while back on Goodreads but still haven't got around to reading it. After reading your review, perhaps I'll try and fit it in a bit sooner!

message 876: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I agree! I want to read it even more now. It's still quite expensive to buy here though, so I'm going to wait a little longer.

message 877: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Thanks Sarah and Peggy. I'm surprised I enjoyed it as I didn't care for The Secret Life of Bees. Started Between Shades of Gray.

message 878: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Finished The Way of Kings found the first 700 pages interesting yet tedious. The last 300 pages flew by and I jumped straight into Words of Radiance. 48 hours here we go

I see that the third book is not out until 2015. With the size of these books you may just be finishing up when Skybreaker (The Stormlight Archive, #3) is published.☺

message 880: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Its scary to think that Sanderson is usually working on 3-4 of these Doorstoppers at a time.

message 881: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I sometimes think some of these authors think they have to use every word they ever learned (and multiple times too). Over 1000 pages? Really? What ever happened to short and sweet?

message 882: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments He is VERY productive it seems. I wonder if he ever gets confused about all his different series and what exactly happened where and why, especially because he's working on different series at the same time (or at least not finishing one series before starting the next). I'm pretty sure I couldn't do it!

message 883: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Steelheart of the Reckoners series is a very fun and quick book. Also labeled young adult which Sanderson keeps the ya stuff shorter I think. Still that is the most fun of all his I've read so far. I really liked Mist born series it just seems his epic fantasy titles take a more serious tone.

message 884: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Took a very quick trip to Lithuania with Between Shades of Gray. My review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 886: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Finished Affinity for the group read and now onto another of Waters' books - Fingersmith for my chunkster challenge and a buddy read.

message 887: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I finished my re-read of Crocodile on the Sandbank. I didn't change my review any. It was perfect timing for tomorrow's toppler.

message 888: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished A Game of Thrones for the chunkster challenge. It was fantastic! I loved it and gave it 5 stars. I would have given it 10 stars if I could! I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

message 889: by Barb (new)

Barb (bubasbookshelf) | 17 comments I'm currently reading The Language
of Flowers
by Vanessa Diffenbaugh and I love it so far.
I found it in supermarket for 1.81 $(aka 10 kn here in Croatia) so I was very lucky.

message 890: by Sarah (last edited Apr 19, 2014 05:59AM) (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments @Lisa - Glad you enjoyed A Game of Thrones - you will love the rest of them too I am sure!

@Luna - That's a bargain! I've just booked a holiday to Croatia so if the books are that cheap there, I might have to take a spare suitcase with me!

I've also started another book Dreams of Gods & Monsters which I'm liking so far - another chunkster!

message 891: by Barb (new)

Barb (bubasbookshelf) | 17 comments @Sarah, depends on the publisher. This was some kind of sale. These books usually cost 7.23$ and there are some that cost 5.42$ or 3.61$.
But they are all in Croatian.
And you can get them mostly in supermarket.
Others cost 10.86$-36.23$.
But they sometimes give you cupons so you get few % off on foreign editions.
Good luck :)
And I hope you will enjoy your visit

Michelle T. (chely1217) | 148 comments Things are going crazy for me, I started class again and there are times I don't time to sit and read, but here is what I'm working on:

1. The Chase by Susan Wales.
2. Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult.Nicholas Sparks
3. Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
4. Obsession by Karen Robards
5. The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy, for my chunkster... is such a good book, but you have to sit there and concentrate.

I also just finished The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

message 893: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I am starting The Enchanted which I have been hearing a lot of good things about.

I am also just under halfway through Lady Audley's Secret which is pretty enjoyable so far.

message 894: by Rewan (new)

Rewan Tremethick (rewantremethick) I've just finished reading The Big Sleep as I've heard so much about it, and now I'm about to start Cat's Cradle.

Thinking I might have to make the most of the sunny weather and spend a few afternoons in the garden with some books (I'm freelance so I can make up the time in the evenings).

message 895: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Welcome Rewan. I'm a mystery fan myself. I have Big Sleep on my to be read list. I'm not sure if I ever read it or just remember the movie. Should get back to these old ones.☺

message 896: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Finished The Witness Wore Red: The 19th Wife Who Brought Polygamous Cult Leaders to Justice a few days ago. An eye-opening and horrific insight into the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints sect. My review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....

message 897: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished Warbreaker yesterday, and today I will start Fingersmith.

message 898: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finally got a chance to start reading The Shadow of the Wind yesterday. I want to go to that library and pick a book!

You and me both, Cherie! :)

message 900: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I started Dragon Seed last night. I'm not sure I'm going to keep reading it. I'll keep plugging along for now. It will count towards my leftover stew challenge, originally on my Around the World challenge for China.
