7% (view spoiler)[Reading this takes a little getting used to. The phrasing is more old fashioned than I am used to, but I like the change. I adore the Hobbits. I have actually read The Hobbit before. It is one of my favorite books, and I have read it many times. Picking up this series was always so daunting since it is so long, but I am finally ready to add this set of books to my backburner. I adore all of the movies in this series. I've seen them too many times to count. =P I think that Peter Jackson did a good job of bringing the Shire to life after reading this. I like how vividly described everything is so far. =] (hide spoiler)]

So, I am on Book 1 and I just finished up with the first chapter. :D

Kind of excited to see what happens now that Bilbo is gone and Frodo is in-charge. I swear, I have neither read the book before, nor have I watched any of the movies.

Ritika, I read my books on my tablet, so it measures how much I read in percentages, not pages read. =] I can't believe that you haven't seen any of the movies. I think that may be better for you in the long run. I love the movies and have watched them over and over through the years since they came out, and now that I am reading the books it seems so different in so many ways. And since the language is written in a classic way, it is hard to get through some of the reading. I guess that I am just not a classics sort or person? Maybe, maybe not. I do love the story though.

13% (view spoiler)[It is amazing to see all of the differences between the way that the book reads and the way that the movies are portrayed. I have seen all of the movies more times than I could ever count. I can honestly say that they are some of my favorite movies ever. Some of the things in the book don't necessarily match up with how they are in the movies. I will also be honest and say that some of the reading is hard to get through because of the classic writing style. I don't read many classics, sadly, and I am not used to the style. I adore the story and the think that it is one of the most imaginative stories ever. I have so much respect for the world that has been created. So far I've experienced the epic party for Bolbo and Frodo's birthdays. Bilbo has left, and now Frodo is pushing off relatives that are snooping around for handouts. Gandalf has just returned to talk to Frofo about the ring. (hide spoiler)]

22%: (view spoiler)[Okay! Now I loved reading about Bilbo Baggins - BUT Frodo is my absolute favorite. I could watch the movies over and over again and never get bored. I love his friendship with Sam too!! Okay okay I really need to stop comparing the book to the movie now!

Now about this book, I am in freaking love with this audio! I have absolutely no idea who the narrator is - but I have a feeling it's the same one since I've also listened to the audio version of the hobbit. Now I honestly cannot stop laughing so hard with the narrator starts singing! Cause all I'm picturing is the character singing in the narrators voice - it's pretty funny if you've listened to the audio.

Other than that I'm glad that Gandalf is back. I also knew that Bilbo went crazy as fuck and didn't want to depart with the precious ring and I'm just wondering if Frodo will listen to Gandalf's advice about not using the ring at all. I can't wait for their adventure! I'm so excited - and if you didn't notice I have never read these books before!! (hide spoiler)]

43%: (view spoiler)[Their adventure is getting more and more interesting and slightly more intense. But this could be due to my first time reading this book/series but I'm so excited and hooked that I completely forget that I've seen the movie beforehand. If that doesn't prove how good of a book this is then I don't know what else will. Frodo is meeting some new people that he doesn't really trust until he gets a letter from Gandalf basically stating that he should trust them. I think it's weird that after reading that letter Frodo is all like "heck yeah I trust you buddy!" so freaking instantly it's kind of outrageous. Other than that, I'm really enjoying their little adventure. I don't know what I think of Tom yet but I'm hoping I'll meet some more of my favorite characters soon!! Also Sam is precious. 68%: (view spoiler)[Wow so many crazy things happened before book 1 ended. So Frodo, and the rest of the Hobbits (plus the human), were all attacked. AND OF COURSE HE USES THE RING TO HIDE which we all know Gandalf told him to stop using. He gets hurt pretty badly and since I've seen the movie I know Frodo lives but still things are getting so intense in this book! I can't put it down!

I also find it so freaking interesting getting all of this backstory to the black riders - it sucks that they are the undead now. I like how Gandalf and everyone else apart of this party was there when Bilbo and Frodo told their sides of the story about the Ring. I get the ring is evil and that it should be destroyed I'm just wondering how long their journey will be to destroy the ring? Speaking of the adventure, they are all on it now and I'm so excited to read about what happens while comparing it to the movie!! (hide spoiler)]

I feel like I may have blacked out during the movie a couple of times because how the hell could I forget about the lord and lady?!? I loved reading about the fellowships time there! Also I have a feeling that maybe the Fellowship saw Gollum before they reached the lord and lady?!? Or is that just me?!

100%: (view spoiler)[OMG WHAT AN ENDING! So I was kind mad that Frodo wanted to go on this mission/journey/scary ass adventure by himself because he can't protect himself at all. I mean, yeah he has a ring that can turn him invisible but doesn't the eye always search for him when he puts on the ring? Or did I not understand that correctly at all..? I'm happy that Sam is going with him because it seemed that they were really friends in the beginning but their friendship has definitely developed in a stronger way during their adventure. I wonder what's going to happen when the rest of the party figures out what these two geniuses decided to do. I can't wait to read the next book in the series - they are so good. Book 4 - Chapter 6: (view spoiler)[I felt bad for Gollum because Frodo had to trick him to leave the water even though all he wanted was to eat fish. I don't really understand how Frodo got separated from his friends at the barrow, but good thing he called Tom for help. I wonder if Tom is some sort of "god" creature?
